Desiree was only four when she lost her Dad. Instead of gradually adjusting to his death, Desiree refused to accept it and even wanted to die so as to be with her father. Concerned about her daughter, Rhonda turned to her mother, Trish Moore, for help.
November 8 of 1993 would have been Kens 29th birthday. So Trish advised Desiree to send her father a card. Desirees eyes lit up as she dictated a letter, “Happy birthday, Daddy. I love you and miss you. I hope you get this and can write to me on my birthday.” Trish wrote the message and their address on a small piece of paper and tied it to the end of the string on a balloon with a drawing of the Little Mermaid (美人魚). Finally, Desiree released the balloon.
On November 12 in eastern Canada, Wade MacKinnon was duck-hunting. Suddenly something in the bushes caught his eye. Curious, he approached to find a silver balloon. The balloon traveled 3,000 miles. To help Desiree, the MacKinnons wrote her a letter with a birthday card and an adaptation of the Little Mermaid.
The MacKinnons package arrived later on Desirees birthday. The letter read, “Happy birthday from your daddy. You must be wondering who we are. Well, it all started... There are no stores in heaven, so your daddy picked us to do the shopping. We know your daddy loves you very much and wants you to be happy and not sad. Lots of love, the MacKinnons.”
Tears in eyes, Desiree said, “I knew Daddy would find a way not to forget me.” Next, Trish began to read the Little Mermaid to her, in which the mermaid was finally carried away by angels. “The mermaid goes to heaven just like Daddy!” Desiree said with delight. She understood then her father was with her always.

Every day around the world, thousands of people with little to no scholarly training in art history walk into museums. They may or may not read notice boards that share relevant information of the artworks or artists. Imagine, before being permitted to direct their eyeballs to the art on the walls, museum visitors were required to read a 15- or 20-page introduction to each piece or each artist. How many people would go to museums if that were the case?
Yet this seems to be the expectation when it comes to reading classic literature. Classic novels typically come with 15- or 20-page introductions, which often include spoilers, assuming that readers do not come to classic books to discover, be absorbed in, and be surprised by the story world. Also, apparently, we mustnt read classics alone, without experts guiding our experiences.
However, classic literature is in a unique position to show us that were not alone in our pains and joys. By taking us out of our time, classic books free us to see beyond the set of beliefs we stick to and to connect human experiences that remain alive across time and place. Our personal engagement is the first step of a longer journey of discovery that deepens our knowledge and understanding of ourselves and our world. We may, for example, feel for Hester Prynne from Nathaniel Hawthornes The Scarlet Letter though we despair of the world she lived in.
While were letting go of things lets stop worrying about understanding everything. We cant. It will be fun if we embrace curiosity, the pleasure of working out a mystery, and our common relationships as humans.
8. Most museum goers ____.
A. enjoy reading notice boards B. understand the artworks well
C. lack professional art knowledge D. share common interest in artworks
9. What can the spoilers in Para. 2 possibly be?
A. Story writers. B. Readers expectations.
C. Guiding experts. D. Plots given away in advance.
10. What prevents readers enjoying reading classics?
A. Showing curiosity about the writers. B. Letting go of things.
C. Trying to understanding everything. D. Working out mysteries.
11. What message is mainly conveyed in the passage?
A. We should find more fun from classics.
B. Reading classics is a personal exploration.
C. Experts need to give readers better guidance.
D. Classic literature benefits readers a great deal.

Demand for the Chinese tech companys devices (設备) is red hot even though the countrys overall market for smartphones is getting smaller Huaweis China sales rocketed more than 20% in the final quarter of 2019, and experts say thats partly due to the US govenments global campaign against the company.
“The latest tension between the US and China raised the patriotism (爱国主义) in Chinese consumers”, said Jusy Hong, an analyst at research firm IHS Markit.
He pointed out that some Chinese companies encouraged employees to buy Huawei phones late last year. The moves were a gesture of support after the firms chief financial officer was arrested in Canada in early December at the request of the United States.
Huawei sold 30 million phones in China in the last three months of 2018, nearly three times as many as Apple (AAPL), according to data published this week by research firms Canalys and IDC. Apples sales plunged almost 20%.
Huaweis success in China, the worlds largest smartphone market, is more than about geopolitics Chinese consumers (消费者) love its flagship, high-end-phones because they have great cameras, cutting edge technology and cost less than the latest iPhones, according to analysts. And by offering a selection of cheaper phones, Huawei is able to target a bigger market.
It also benefited from the troubles this year at ZTE (ZTCOF), a rival Chinese smartphone and telecommunications equipment maker. ZTE was banned by the US government from buying vital American parts for months last year.
12. Why did Huaweis China sales increase greatly according to the article?
A. Because the companys devices are always popular worldwide.
B. Because Chinese consumers patriotism was aroused.
C. Because the government encourages people to buy Huawei devices.
D. Because the countrys overall market for smartphones is getting bigger.
13. What can we conclude from the third paragraph?
A. Huaweis chief financial officer was arrested in Canada due to the USs request.
B. All Chinese companies showed their support to Huawei with their purchase.
C. Jusy Hong thought the United States arrested Huaweis chief financial officer.
D. Jusy Hong thought the arrest of Huaweis chief financial officer is unfair.
14. How do you understand the underlined word in the fourth paragraph?
A. increased greatly by B. reduced greatly to
C. dropped greatly by D. remained steady
15. Why is Huaweis success in China more than about geopolitics?
A. Because Huawei has the largest smartphone market in the world.
B. Because Huaweis success is only limited within China mainland.
C. Because Huawei has the ability to target a bigger market in the world.
D. Because Chinese consumers are quite satisfied with Huawei smartphones.

3. C。 根据Lucy the Lady Bugs 1st Birthday Party部分Cost: $38 / Family Day Pass, $16 / Adult, $12 / Students and Seniors, Free / Children 6 and younger.

5. A。 November 8 of 1993 would have been Kens 29th birthday. So Trish advised Desiree to send her father a card. On November 12 in eastern. The balloon traveled 3,000 miles. 故选A。

Imagine, before being permitted to direct their eyeballs to the art on the walls, museum visitors were required to read a 15- or 20-page introduction to each piece or each artist. How many people would go to museums if that were the case?
根据后文assuming that readers do not come to classic books to discover, be absorbed in, and be surprised by the story world.(假设读者读经典小说不是为了发现、沉浸其中并对故事世界感到惊讶。)

Besides, the forms of the activity could be various, which involves reading or reciting on your own, in pairs or groups. The prizes will go to the top five students. Looking forward to your early reply.
