What else do you know about the four musicians
*known as A Bing, was born in 1893
in the eastern Chinese city of Wuxi
*lost both his sight and job, becoming a wandering musician at the age of thirty, his life radically(彻底地) changed then
*composed Moonlight on the Second Spring,
one of the most recognizable Chinese folk tunes
Even though there are many legends of his virtuosity (精湛技巧) on the erhu, the master recorded only three pieces for the instrument, all of which were at the very end of his life in 1950.
Hua Yanjun
*born in 1895 in Jiangsu province
into the family of a late Qing dynasty scholar
*have a strong interest in music from childhood, starting his training in high school, & specializing in Western music theory, violin, and piano
*had a special passion for ethnic music, devoting a lot of time exploring the Chinese tradition and mastering the art of melody from skillful folk artists of his time
*best known for his reformative work for the erhu (Chinese two-string fiddle), such as Moon Night and Birdsong over Empty Mountain(空山鸟语).
Liu Tianhua
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
(1756 - 1791), Austrian composer
*widely recognized as one of the greatest composers in the history of Western music. *Unlike any other composer in musical history, he wrote in all the musical genres(体裁)of his day and excelled in every one
*He was famous for Symphony No.41 (the Jupiter Symphony) and Piano Concerto No. 23.
LIsten to the pieces of music .
How do you feel when listening to them
Possible answers:
A Bing's Moonlight on the Second Spring awakens feelings of sadness in me at first. Listening to the soft sound of the erhu reminds me of the composer's tough life. But as the piece continues and erhu gets stronger, I imagine A Bing becoming more determined because he wouldn't give up hope. By the end, my sadness is replaced with admiration for A Bing's amazing talent.
The uplifting and joyful music of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 feels light and positive. In the piece, the tone of the piano solo changes to a melancholic(忧郁的) one, but that does not last long before the music becomes cheerful again. The genius of Mozart is clearly displayed in this piece. I would like to listen to his other piano concertos and experience more of his amazing talent.
