一、阅读理解-阅读选择(共10小题;共90分)
阅读下列短文,根据短文内容,从短文后各题所给的选项中,选择最佳选项。
Nick: I always wake up in the morning but end up turning off my alarm clock and sleeping for another 30 minutes. That makes me late for school! Mr Smith: It's normal (正常的) for us to be slow to wake up. Start by moving your alarm clock away from your bed, so you have to get up to turn it off. Also, you have got to make sure you're getting enough sleep. What's more, try drinking some water the moment you open your eyes in the morning.
Judy: This year, I got the teacher I didn't want at school. Even worse, my best friend is in a different class! Mr Smith: Succeed (成功) with a teacher by knowing what actions are most important to that teacher (such as putting up your hand) and then doing them. That might not sound fun, but it's a good skill. As for your friend, make plans to see her at break or outside of school. Your friendship can still be strong.
Jimmy: I always hurry to finish tests, but sometimes that makes me miss some questions. Mr Smith: It's wise to realise that hurrying to finish tests isn't actually winning you anything. To change your ways, you can make yourself slow down and avoid making mistakes. You can also take time to carefully check over each question on a test before you hand it in.
Sandy: Sisters Day is a tradition my sister and I started, with cards and everything. But now she's older and says Sisters Day is boring. Mr Smith: How about simply updating your tradition Pick a moment and say, "I know Sisters Day is boring to you, but it means a lot to me. Can we find a way to make it more fun " Then come up with a new tradition that you'll both enjoy.

I am 13 years old and in eighth grade. One day, when I was walking home from school, I saw some words on a fence (栅栏) of a house. It said, "Happiness is a direction, not a destination (终点)." I had been having a bad day and just reading this made me a little happier.
I saw the quote (格言) every day while walking home from school. One day I decided to write one of my favourite quotes on the fence for someone else to see. But when I came back to the fence, I saw another quote under mine. I added another, and we kept at this pattern for quite a while.
A few days later, when I was writing another quote on the fence, the old man, one of my neighbours, who owned the fence, saw me. He came out and I was afraid he would be angry with me. He was not known to be a friendly person. He looked at me angrily and then read the quotes on the fence. Without saying a word, he went back inside. I was terrified for a while, but when I went back to the fence, I noticed two words had been added: "Thank you."
Later, I saw the old man in his front yard. He called me over and told me that he was glad to see that young people still had values. We are now good friends. I still don't know who wrote that very first quote, but I'd like to say "thank you" to that unknown hero.

As young students, you have many dreams. These dreams can be very big, such as winning the Nobel Prize; they can also be small, such as becoming one of the best students in your class.
Once you find a dream, what do you do with it Do you ever try to make your dream come true
Andrew Matews, an Australian writer, tells us that making your dreams come true is life's biggest challenge. You may think you're not very good at some school subjects, or that it's impossible for you to become a writer. Those kinds of ideas stop you from realizing your dream.
In fact, everyone can realize his dream. The first thing you must do is to remember what your dream is. Don't let it leave your heart. Keep telling yourself what you want every day and then your dream will come true faster. You should know that a big dream is, in fact, made up of many small dreams.
You must also never give up your dreams. There will be difficulties on the road to your dreams. But the biggest difficulty comes from you. You need to decide what is the most important. Studying instead of watching TV will help you to get better exam results, while saving five yuan instead of buying an ice cream means you can buy a new book.
As you get closer to your dream, it may change a little. This is good as you have the chance to learn something more useful and find new hobbies.

My child doesn't like to do his homework. We argue with each other over the homework every evening. This is one of our top arguments. What shall I do
Lucy
Dear Lucy,
As a parent, I also had such a problem. It's common for many kids to hate their homework. Here's my advice for you.
☆Try to stay calm. The first step is to try to stay as calm as you can. If you get upset and start shouting at your child, you are never helpful to solve the problem.
☆Make a clear plan around homework time. Let your children know that you hope that they can finish the work on time. The most important thing is that they try their best. Some may find English easy, but have difficulty in learning math. This is common.
☆Have a relationship with your child's teacher. Try your best to build a good relationship with your child's teacher. Start off at the beginning of the school year and stay in touch as the year progresses.
☆Play the parental role is most useful to your child. Every kid needs help. Your job is to guide your child. You can always make suggestions and the teacher's job is to grade them.
