The best ideas are often the ones that come out of a need. One such 1 is circle soaps. They were invented by 7-year-old Carter Rowen who wanted to make it 2 to hold his soap, so he invented the circle soap. The circle soap comes in different 3 and shapes. Young children love them. They enjoy washing their hands with these 4 soaps. And it is easier for them to hold these soaps.
Carter Rowen is 10 years old now. “One day, I was playing with a piece of soap in our bathroom. I made a hole in the middle of it. My mum saw it and told me to stop 5 the soap. However, after a few days, when my little sisters were using the soap, I 6 it became easier for them to hold the soap with the hole. So I told my mum that we should make soaps with 7 in the middle and sell them to raise money to buy the homeless people an apartment so that they 8 live there for free,” said Carter excitedly.
Now Carter has made some money by selling circle soaps. 9 he has bought a lot of everyday things for homeless people with the money. He is 10 to help more homeless people. Now the clever boy is working on several other new inventions.

When Alex was a kid, he helped out in his parents’ burger shop. Standing on top of a milk box made him 1 enough to make drinks for customers. When he was a little older, he worked with other workers to cook 2 together.
Now, Alex has his own burger shop. It’s a restaurant called Creator in San Francisco, California. He doesn’t make burgers by 3 . Neither do his workers.
At Creator, some machines cook and sell burgers. Alex made a device(装置). It washes meat and vegetables, 4 them into pieces and adds cheese and relish(调味品). People like these hamburgers because their tastes are just as good as or 5 than burgers made by hand. And they cost less, too. That’s 6 it’s cheaper to make machines than to pay a kitchen full of workers.
Creator is just one 7 . Automation(自动化) is taking over humans’ many jobs. That means work is done by machines or computers, not people.
A report says that 400 to 800 million people may be out of jobs by 2030. As technology improves, some work will be done more quickly or cheaply 8 machine. On Nov. 20, 2019, a police dog training centre in Beijing welcomed six new dogs. They are all cloned(克隆) dogs, China Daily reported. The dogs were born in August. They were cloned from two police dogs that have helped police solve many murder cases(谋杀案).
Early in 2019, scientists took some cells(细胞) from the dogs' skin and created cloned embryos(胚胎). Then, they put the embryos into three mother dogs. One mother gave birth to four dogs, while the other two gave birth to one each. The cloned dogs' DNA is a 99 percent match with their “fathers”.
It is hoped that the cloned dogs will be as talented as their “fathers” because they are cloned. The cloned dogs are just four months old, but have already shown that they are brave and clever, as well as having good memories, according to Ma Jinlei, a police officer at the centre. So it will take less time and money to train them.
The world's first cloned dog was born in South Korea in 2005. However, animal cloning is still a hot talk. The world's first cloned animal, Dolly, the sheep, died at the age of 6 in 2003, about 6 years earlier than most sheep. Some people have questioned whether cloning technology is safe.
What's more, some people worry that cloning technology may be used on humans someday and therefore may cause some ethical(道德的) problems.

If you look at the top of your phone, you’ll usually see a little symbol that says 3G or 4G. The “G” stands for the “generation” of your mobile network. But these symbols will become things of the past after 5G fully arrives.
On March 30th, 2019, Shanghai vice-mayor Wu Qing made the first 5G video call on a Huawei Mate X smartphone. Shanghai has also become the first city in China to start testing 5G networks.
About 100 times faster than 4G networks, 5G will let people download and upload data faster than ever before. But 5G won’t just bring faster mobile Internet. People can use it for many other things as well.
For example, 5G will help to make self-driving cars safer. Today’s self-driving test cars have one problem—lag. When the car “sees” an obstacle, it sends this information to a data centre and receives instructions. However, it takes time to send and receive this information. With this kind of lag, the cars might crash because they don’t receive instructions in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowered, making the cars safer.
5G could also be used to power the Internet of Things(IoT). It is a large online network that connects all things and people. Fast Internet speeds will be the key to developing this technology. For example, with IoT under 5G, your refrigerator could automatically place an order online for eggs when it finds that there are no eggs left inside.
All in all, 5G will shape every type of technology that it touches. And you won’t have to wait too long for that to happen.
( )1.From Paragraph 2, we can know that .

What do you think of a “talking kitchen” A French Digital Kitchen has been developed at Newcastle University in the UK. It teaches students how to cook French food and speak French at the same time. For the first time, students can learn a language by following the cooking steps.
All grammar and have been carefully chosen to make sure the users can understand French well. After learning for some time, the users can test themselves by doing a short test on the computer.
The kitchen project was started by Professor Paul Seedhouse. He became interested in the idea after he visited another kind of talking kitchen. He said, “The purpose of the French Digital Kitchen is to make learning a language more interesting and more educational.”
How does the kitchen work There is a computer in the kitchen. With this computer, the users can first choose a French recipe that they want to follow. Using information in the computer, the kitchen starts to guide the users how to make a French dish. If you follow the instructions on the computer, it moves on to the next. If you go wrong, the programme goes back and repeats the recipe or information. At any time, the users can also ask the kitchen to repeat the recipe or any information.
The new kitchen can be used in schools, universities and even people’s homes. The researchers will also be developing the European Digital Kitchen for the next three years.

All around the world, people try to get good health care(医疗). But someday soon, 5G technology could make it possible for all the people to enjoy health care. We can use a special app to make it come true. This application is called “Telehealth”. It means caring for patients from far away when the doctor and patient are not in the same place.
The patient can have a video call with a doctor in real time, similar to a WeChat video call. With 5G, health care systems could also deal with a large number of these video calls and allow different systems to make appointments(预约) and give proper medicine to patients. It will also give older people or those living in the countryside an easier way to see a doctor.
Another part of telemedicine is remote(远程的) monitoring. Hospitals could check patients from their own homes and send the patients’ information to hospitals by using 5G. This will make it possible for hospitals to give more special treatment without asking people to go to hospital, as well as reducing hospital costs.
There are also many other exciting applications for 5G technology in medicine. One of them is “Remote Operation”. In March, China’s first 5G-based brain operation was done by a doctor in Sanya, Hainan, who operated on a patient in Beijing. In August, it was reported that robots in Beijing did three orthopedic surgeries(整形外科手术) in Xinjiang, Tianjin and Zhangjiakou at the same time.
In the short term, changes to health care might not be so great. However, the arrival of 5G means a world of robot operations and home health care may be happening soon.

Overcoming(克服) shyness is not impossible. The following steps may be helpful.
Step 1
Overcoming shyness is mainly a case of mind over matter. If you’re afraid to do it, you will get much shyer when doing it. The more you come to talk with people, the easier it will become. You may also find that it’s not as difficult as you thought anyway. Just talk to people a little more every day.
Step 2
It sometimes helps to try to imagine you as another person. Think about this: Do you get shy when someone else walks up to talk to another Of course you don’t. Think of yourself as just somebody else and it’ll make it a little easier.
Step 3
Dress to impress. The better you look, the more confident you’ll feel. Feeling good about your appearance can greatly reduce shyness.
Step 4
If you’re up on stage, try to imagine that you’re somewhere else. Maybe in your own comfortable living room. Tell yourself that the audiences are really no big deal. They’re ONLY people.
( )1. The first step mainly tells us .
A. we should talk to people as much as possible
B. it’s difficult to get over shyness
