What do you think of a “talking kitchen” A French Digital Kitchen has been developed at Newcastle University in the UK. It teaches students how to cook French food and speak French at the same time. For the first time, students can learn a language by following the cooking steps.
All grammar and have been carefully chosen to make sure the users can understand French well. After learning for some time, the users can test themselves by doing a short test on the computer.
The kitchen project was started by Professor Paul Seedhouse. He became interested in the idea after he visited another kind of talking kitchen. He said, “The purpose of the French Digital Kitchen is to make learning a language more interesting and more educational.”
How does the kitchen work There is a computer in the kitchen. With this computer, the users can first choose a French recipe that they want to follow. Using information in the computer, the kitchen starts to guide the users how to make a French dish. If you follow the instructions on the computer, it moves on to the next. If you go wrong, the programme goes back and repeats the recipe or information. At any time, the users can also ask the kitchen to repeat the recipe or any information.
The new kitchen can be used in schools, universities and even people’s homes. The researchers will also be developing the European Digital Kitchen for the next three years.

On Nov. 20, 2019, a police dog training centre in Beijing welcomed six new dogs. They are all cloned(克隆) dogs, China Daily reported. The dogs were born in August. They were cloned from two police dogs that have helped police solve many murder cases(谋杀案).
Early in 2019, scientists took some cells(细胞) from the dogs' skin and created cloned embryos(胚胎). Then, they put the embryos into three mother dogs. One mother gave birth to four dogs, while the other two gave birth to one each. The cloned dogs' DNA is a 99 percent match with their “fathers”.
It is hoped that the cloned dogs will be as talented as their “fathers” because they are cloned. The cloned dogs are just four months old, but have already shown that they are brave and clever, as well as having good memories, according to Ma Jinlei, a police officer at the centre. So it will take less time and money to train them.
The world's first cloned dog was born in South Korea in 2005. However, animal cloning is still a hot talk. The world's first cloned animal, Dolly, the sheep, died at the age of 6 in 2003, about 6 years earlier than most sheep. Some people have questioned whether cloning technology is safe.
What's more, some people worry that cloning technology may be used on humans someday and therefore may cause some ethical(道德的) problems.

VI.阅读理解
If you look at the top of your phone, you’ll usually see a little symbol that says 3G or 4G. The “G” stands for the “generation” of your mobile network. But these symbols will become things of the past after 5G fully arrives.
On March 30th, 2019, Shanghai vice-mayor Wu Qing made the first 5G video call on a Huawei Mate X smartphone. Shanghai has also become the first city in China to start testing 5G networks.
About 100 times faster than 4G networks, 5G will let people download and upload data faster than ever before. But 5G won’t just bring faster mobile Internet. People can use it for many other things as well.
For example, 5G will help to make self-driving cars safer. Today’s self-driving test cars have one problem—lag. When the car “sees” an obstacle, it sends this information to a data centre and receives instructions. However, it takes time to send and receive this information. With this kind of lag, the cars might crash because they don’t receive instructions in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowered, making the cars safer.
5G could also be used to power the Internet of Things(IoT). It is a large online network that connects all things and people. Fast Internet speeds will be the key to developing this technology. For example, with IoT under 5G, your refrigerator could automatically place an order online for eggs when it finds that there are no eggs left inside.
All in all, 5G will shape every type of technology that it touches. And you won’t have to wait too long for that to happen.
( )1.From Paragraph 2, we can know that .
A.5G was widely used in China in 2019
B.it took lots of efforts to test 5G
C.Shanghai was the first city in China to test 5G networks
D.5G would make it possible to take videos
( )2.Compared with 4G, 5G could be .
A.cheaper B.faster
C.safer D.busier
( )3.The underlined word “lag” probably means “ ” in Chinese.
A.延迟 B.迷路
C.暂停 D.耗电
( )4.What is IoT according to the passage
A.A robot that can do housework.
B.An online store where you can buy anything.
C.A car that can drive by itself.
D.A large online network that connects things and people.
( )45.Which of the following would be the best title of the passage
A.Can 5G Go Far
B.5G Makes Self-driving Cars Safer
C.5G Has Made Our Life More Convenient
D.China Is Leading the World in 5G
