The topic of this unit is about cultural relics, they are symbols of history and the people who lived in the past . Reading one “in search of the Amber Room” tells the strange history of the amber room, a cultural relic of two countries: Germany and Russia. it is a relic which has been lost and the Amber Room that people can see today is actually reproduction. Now people are still searching for it.
Importance:
1. To get the students to understand the history of the Amber Room, the world cultural relics and strengthen their realization of the cultural relics’ protection.
2. To get the students to learn to tell the facts and views, toughen their ability of thinking and analysis.
Difficulty: 1 To grasp the main idea of the text ,and analyze the relationship of the characters 2 To talk about the other cultural relics at home or abroad
Knowledge goal:
To get the students to practise their ability of talking about cultural relics, using the knowledge of the English language the students have grasped.
Ability goal : To enable the students to talk about the story of Amber Room
Emotion goal : To set up a consciousness of protecting cultural relics through my teaching.
The characteristic of students in grade one:
1)They have adapted themselves to the new book, but they don’t form a good habit of studying English ;
2)They have curiosity ,active thought,but they don’t think much or logically;
3)Most students are inexperienced and lack of the courage to overcome difficulties
According to the New English Curriculum standard, students should be the real masters in language study. During my teaching process, I’ll play a role as a participant, adviser and prompter, try my best to create contexts, ask questions, enlighten and guide the students to learn independently. Exercise and discussion will be the main forms of teaching in my class. I’ll use a computer, some pictures as my teaching aids.
Step 1 warming up
1) Listen to the song HuPo by ShuiMuNianHua
2)Watch some pictures of ambers and ask the following questions:
a. Do you know what they are made of
b. What color does amber have
C. What do you think amber can be made into
Step 2 Pre-reading:
Show the picture of the amber room on the big screen from different sides and guess:
1) how much does it costs
2) If the amber room got lost, what will you do
3) What is the text about
Step 3 Reading while Listening :
1) Find out the characters ,years and places in the passage.
2)Using who , when , where ,what and how , let the students get the general idea if the text.
step 4 Careful reading:
1) Ask two questions: a. What is the amber room made of b. how can it made into a room
2) Fill in two forms to know about what use they made of it.
3) Do true or false exercise
Step 5 Read again
Discuss the main idea of each paragraph
Step 6 activity
Activity one (role play): Introduce the Amber Room as a guide according to the words on the screen
2)Activity two: talk about cultural relics in China by watching videos and ask what we can do for them
