As a little girl, one of my favourite family traditions was held on the first day of May. Along with my sister, my mother and I would make simple rower baskets by making paper into cones (圆锥形). Then, we filled the bottom of the cone with small candies before putting some flowers into it.
With our May Day baskets in hand, my sister and I became anonymous gift-givers. After hanging a basket on the front door of a neighbor or friend, we rang the doorbell and ran away. The goal was to remain secret givers.
Historically, the first day of May, often referred to as “May Day”, has been recognised as a celebration of spring, of life and growth. Parades (游行) and dances are ways that the day has been — and continues to be — celebrated in many parts of the world. Although formal May Day celebrations may be less common now, it is always worth celebrating. Here are some simple and lovely ways to celebrate May Day in our homes and with those we love.
Making a May Day basket is always a great choice. Although the May Day basket we made as children was simple, the making of the basket was a joy in itself. Consider making or buying some flowers for friends. Fill the basket with a few sweets and write a note thanking your friend or neighbour for their kindness, their presence, and their love.
On May Day, we also take flowers to a local hospital or nursing home. Flowers are always welcome in places that are too often full of sadness. Stopping to have a conversation with a patient and thanking a nurse would be an additional gift — to the receiver and to us!
Besides, we always give friends small gifts to celebrate May Day. A small book or magazine with a note, an art print celebrating spring — the choices are endless. When your friends are far away, an unexpected gift can reawaken friendship across the miles.
24.The underlined part “anonymous gift-givers” refers to people who ________.
A.are serious about gift-giving
B.don't know the value of gifts
C.are careful about every small detail
D.give gifts but don't want their names to be known
25.What do we know about May Day from the passage _________
A.It is celebrated all over the world.
B.The date of its celebration has changed.
C.It traditionally celebrates the arrival of spring.
D.There is an increase in formal May Day celebrations.
26.In the author's eyes, May Day is a great chance to ________.
A.express thanks
B.visit faraway friends
C.read a book or magazine
D.stay with family members
27.What is the passage mainly about _________
A.The history of May Day. B.Great family traditions.
C.Celebrating May Day. D.Flowers for festivals.

When Tony took up running as a hobby he was 42 years old. Now 42 years later he's a national champion and a world record holder.
He never imagined at the age of 84 this is where he'd be, but then he doesn't meet many people in their 80s who are out training four times a week.
"I can see it's a bit unusual, yes. But it's been my life, " he told the reporter.
The retired officer runs at a track near his home in Leeds.
At an event in Italy last month he set a world record in the 80 metres hurdles (跨栏)with a time of under 17 seconds. But he sees no reason to slow down and his ambition is still to be competing when he passes a hundred.
"I probably won't be doing a crouch start (蹲式起跑),but it's only 16 years away," he joked. Like anyone his age, he's had health problems. He's had a string of severe heart attacks, but doctors have told him as long as it makes him feel good, he should carry on running.
"I can't let my heart get in the way of my training. When I am sprinting I have to give it my absolute all. My heart is the last thing on my mind." he said.
He trains every other day, dances and plays hockey and he recently cuts down on alcohol and chocolate. He said, "I've heard alcohol can lead to dementia and I don't want that. I've cut down to one glass of wine every other day. I now have to stay as fit as I can be to keep up my lifestyle."

On Friday, June 20th, 29 dogs along with their owners came to Santa Rosa, California. They came there to take part in an unusual competition--- one that seeks out and honors the World's Ugliest Dog. Now in its 26th year, the competition is one of the biggest attractions at the annual Sonoma County Fair.
Among the leading competitors were Cupcake, who was adopted(收养)from a local dog rescue center in January, and Shorty, who would have been put to sleep if its owner, Jason, wasn't kind enough to pick it up. Also competing was 11-year-old veteran Grovie. Described by his owner as short and funny, the Chinese pug is a local resident who has taken part in this contest several times. Then there was the 2002 “World's Ugliest Dog” and “Ring of Champions” winner, Rascal. The 7lbs naturally hairless dog with very few teeth comes from an impressive background. His grandfather, Chi Chi, has held the Guinness World Record for winning the title “World's Ugliest Dog” seven times!
But all these impressively “ugly” dogs had no chance against Peanut. The two-year-old dog was badly burnt in a fire which caused him to lose his lips, most of his body hair and eyelids. Besides winning the title, $ 1,500 in cash and a large trophy (奖杯)the first-time winner also enjoyed an all — expenses — paid trip to New York City where he made scheduled appearances on Today Show and Jimmy Kimmel Show.
The competition is a great way to honor these dogs, many of whom get their unusual look because of human abuse(虐待). But most importantly, it shows the world that ugliness does not prevent dogs from becoming very loving pets.
32.Who could take part in the competition _________
A.Dog owners having ugly dogs. B.People willing to adopt dogs.
C.Dogs with unusual skills. D.Dogs with ugly look.
33.Why did Jason adopt Shorty _________
A.Because he didn't want Shorty to be killed.
B.Because Shorty looked so cute and funny.
C.Because he wanted Shorty to take part in the competition.
D.Because no rescue center would like to adopt Shorty.
34.Which dog won the competition this time _________
A.Rascal. B.Peanut. C.Cupcake. D.Grovie.
35.What's the main purpose of the competition _________
A.To call on people not to kill ugly dogs.
B.To tell people ugly dogs are worth loving.
C.To show the way to deal with ugly dogs.
D.To honor unusual dogs and their owners.

The goal was to remain secret givers.(在邻居或朋友的前门挂上篮子后,我们按响了门铃,然后跑开了。目的是保持秘密捐赠者)”可知,我们不让人家知道篮子是我们给的,因此anonymous gift-givers的意思应该是“送礼物,但不要让别人知道他们的名字的人”,即people who give gifts but don't want their names to be known,故选D。
25.
根据第三段首句“Historically, the first day of May, often referred to as “May Day”, has been recognised as a celebration of spring, of life and growth.(历史上,5月的第一天,通常被称为“五朔节”,一直被认为是庆祝春天,生命和成长)”可知,五朔节是庆祝春天的到来的节日,故选C。

根据第五段中的“But he sees no reason to slow down and his ambition is still to be competing when he passes a hundred.”可知,托尼在创造80米栏的世界纪录后仍想跑到100岁,再根据倒数第二段“He trains every other day, dances and plays hockey and he recently cuts down on alcohol and chocolate. He said, "I've heard alcohol can lead to dementia and I don't want that. I've cut down to one glass of wine every other day. I now have to stay as fit as I can be to keep up my lifestyle."”

根据倒数第二段第一句“But all these impressively “ugly” dogs had no chance against Peanut.

Understanding your values might help them see your purposes in life.

63.going
64.kinds
65.a
66.successful
67.helping
68.is
69.to help
70.myself
固定短语as we all know“众所周知”,故填As。
根据下文since I entered the primary school可知应用现在完成时,主语为I,故填have dreamed。
固定短语as a result“因此;结果”。故填a。
故填to help。
