Dear Smith,
I am pleased to know that you are interested in traditional Chinese culture specifically the Dragon Boat Festival. Here, I am writing to introduce it to you.
The dragon boat festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, which originated from 274 BC, according to the legend, to commemorate the great poet, Qu Yuan. Learning that his motherland was invaded, as a patriot, Qu Yuan was totally desperate and committed suicide by jumping into Miluo river. People felt grievous(悲哀的) at his sacrifice and in order to protect Qu Yuan’s body, they rowed boats, and threw rice into the river to drive fish away. For more than two thousand vears.,the story has been evolved into the two main traditions: racing dragon boats which needs great team spirit and eating zongzi--a kind of pyramid-shaped rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves.
The dragon boat festival is approaching. Would you like to come and celebrate it with me I am looking forward to your coming.
