I’m Tara. Three years ago, I thought I didn’t have enough time to do the housework, so I canceled the cable(取消有线电视). But I still think it’s fun to watch TV shows when I get the chance.
My favorite show was The Life Laundry. It was so interesting. It came on Saturday mornings after Norm on This Old House and Rick Steve’s Europe. It was like Clean Sweep. It chose some common people. In the show, people took everything in the house outside so they could see how many things they had. Then they would go through each thing and decide whether(是否) to keep or sell it. When people sold some things they would never use, a team(团队) would make the home more beautiful with a new coat of paint. At the end of the show, everyone was always happy to see their home cleaned up and look spacious.
Antiques Road Show came after The Life Laundry, which was confusing(令人困惑的) because The Life Laundry made you want to clean out your things, but it made you want to keep everything.

What will life in your home be like without screens for entertainment The week of May 2 to May 8, 2016, the Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood (CCFC) is hosting Screen-Free Week. Will you spend more time playing outside, reading or studying Well, now it’s your chance to turn off your TV! Screen-Free Week is here.
Screen-Free Week was called TV-Turn Off Week at first. It was founded by TV-Turn Off Network, a nonprofit organization(非盈利机构). And it was first started in 1994. In the beginning, only a few thousand people took part. But now a large number of people from over 70 countries take part in this meaningful activity! And CCFC changed the name of TV-Turn Off Week to Screen-Free Week in 2010, because entertainment media are fast delivered(传播) through different kinds of screens, such as computers and video games, not only traditional televisions.
The goal of Screen-Free Week is to let people turn off their televisions, computers and video games and take part in activities from drawing to biking.
According to the TV-Turn Off Network, the average kids in the US spend more time in front of the TV (about 1,023 hours per year) than they do in school (about 900 hours per year). Too much TV-watching has made many kids grow fat. As a result, in 2001’s TV-Turn Off Week, US Surgeon General David Satcher said, “We are raising the most overweight generation of youngsters in American history. This week is about saving lives.”
Over the years, studies have shown that watching a lot of TV leads to poor eating habits and too little exercise. Frank Vespe of the TV-Turn Off Network said, “turning off the TV should be part of a healthy lifestyle.”
Screen-Free Week seems to be making a difference. Recent US Census(人口普查) data shows that about 72 percent of kids under 12 have a limit(限制) on their screen time. That’s up from about 63 percent ten years ago.
