Have you ever heard someone say,“'breakfast is the most important meal of the day”,or give you advice about why it's vital to start the day with a healthy breakfast It seems that this meal, for many of us,is necessary for our day to start well, but is it really that important
The word“breakfast”comes from“breaking the fast”——the idea of ending the period in which we don’t eat during the night. The regeneration process that takes place while we sleep consumes some of our natural food reserves.Breakfast gives us an opportunity to replenish those reduced stores of things like protein and calcium. So,in that way,a healthy breakfast makes sense.
There are also many often-quoted studies which seem to connect a state of being overweight with not eating breakfast. In fact,it leads many health experts to advise a healthy breakfast to not only control but also lose weight. In a us study,50,000 people were monitored over seven years, and those who ate a healthy breakfast were found to have a lower BMI(体重指数),which seems to suggest that breakfast may indeed help people maintain a healthy weight.
But it might not be as simple as that.Alexandra Johnstone, professor of appetite research at the University of Aberdeen, suggests those who do not have breakfast might be less aware of healthy diets and nutrition, and people who eat breakfast might have a healthier lifestyle overall—exercising and not smoking, for example. And he also points out that with the rise in popularity of intermittent(间歇性的)fasting to lose weight, there may also be some benefits to not eating breakfast, like improving blood sugar control and lowering blood pressure.
So,while breakfast has its benefits,it might not be the most important meal.It seems that a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet might be more important for many of us than just one single meal.
28.Why does the author list the questions in the first paragraph
A.To give a warning. B.To offer some advice.
C.To introduce the topic. D.To prove a certain fact.
29.What does the underlined word“replenish”mean in paragraph 2
A.Set aside. B.Manage without. C.Make up for. D.Run out of.
30.What conclusion can we draw from Johnstone’s research
A.Skipping breakfast may do good to our health.
B.Those who eat breakfast can keep a lower BMI.
C.Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
D.Intermittent fasting contributes greatly to weight loss.
31.What does the author suggest we do at the end of the text
A.Try new lifestyles. B.Follow a balanced diet.
C.Pay more attention to breakfast. D.Be aware of the benefits of each meal.
D
Self-healing(自愈)“electronic skin”that stretches into a circuit board and attaches to the human body could be a more environmentally friendly alternative to the current wearable devices, scientists have said.
Some us researchers are developing a thin,skin-like wearable device that they say is fully recyclable and has the capability to repair itself. The electronic skin can perform sensory(传感) tasks such as tracking a daily step count or measuring body temperature and heart rate, and can be shaped to be comfortably worn on any part of the body.
The team said their work could lead to a future where recyclable high-tech skin allows people to collect accurate data about their bodies while cutting down on electronic waste.“Humans will have produced over 60 million tons of discarded(废弃的)smartphones, laptops and other electronics by 2025.Our solution is to start with how we make the device, not when it’s already been thrown away,”said Professor Xiao, loader of the team.
The researchers used a screen printing technique to create a network of liquid metal wires for the circuit. They then used two thin films made of a self-healing material called polyimine to cover the circuit.
The researchers said the resulting device is a little thicker than a Band-Aid which can be applied to treat the wound. It can also stretch by 60 per cent in any direction without messing up the electronics inside. The electronic skin can heal itself in 13 minutes if damaged. The bonds that hold together the polyimine material will begin to grow together to reform a network across the cut, similar to skin healing.
However, the electronic skin is a long way away from being able to compete with the wearable devices in the market. One of the main limitations is that it still needs an external power source to work.“We haven’t realized an of these complex functions yet,but we are marching toward that direction,”Professor Xiao said.
32.Which of the following is not the function of the skin-like electronic
A.Taking body temperature.
B.Keeping track of everyday steps.
C.Collecting data on electronic waste.
D.Stretching to fit anywhere on the body.
33.What does paragraph 5 mainly talk about
A.The process of producing the electronic skin.
B.The future the electronic skin may face.
C.Why the electronic skin is so popular.
D.How the electronic skin works.
34.What is Professor Xiao’s attitude towards the new style of device
A.Confident. B.Doubtful. C.Indifferent. D.Worried.
35.What can be the best title for the text
A.Electronic Skin:An Effective Way to Cure Diseases
B.A Recyclable,Self-healing Wearable Device Is Invented
C.Professor Xiao:Expert Devoted to Improving Electronics
D.Traditional Wearable Electronic Devices Are on the Way out

第二节(满分25分) (One possible version)
Finally our parents agreed that if we could go thirty days on best behavior, we could get a puppy. “Yeah!” Mitch and I gave each other a high five and we jumped with joy. From that day on, we got up early to help mom make breakfast, did some housework, and got along very nicely with each other so we could make it one day closer to meeting a sweet little puppy. We even decided on a good name, Luckie, for our future dog. Time dragged by and we were eagerly expecting the big day to come.
One afternoon, we returned from school to find a little dog running in the yard. “It’s a reward for your good behavior for the last month,” Mom said. “Hi, Luckie!” Mitch and I were overjoyed and we greeted the puppy excitedly. The little dog, wagging its tail happily, looked at us with the cutest look of innocence. We felt our hearts melt instantly. We bought Luckie some puppy food and several lovely toys. Ever since then, feeding, walking and cleaning Luckie have been our daily routine. We really enjoy watching it grow and become our good companion. Meanwhile, we get to know that if we really want something, we should strive hard for it.
Dear David,
Yours,
Li Hua

W: Wonderful! If you can just show me your ID and your bank card, we’ll get started right away!

M: This class is so hard! I should have stayed with chemistry. Geometry is just not my cup of tea.
W: I’m in applied math, and it’s definitely the hardest course I’ve ever taken.

M: Did you go to the meeting last night
W: Yes, but I wish I hadn’t.
M: Did you ask how much the new furniture for the club was going to cost
W: Yes, and I really put my foot in it.
M: How
W: Well, I said I thought it was a stupid idea to buy new furniture when the club was so short of
money.
M: Well, there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s a reasonable opinion.
W: Maybe, but I had forgot that I was the one who first suggested new furniture at last year’s
meeting.

M: What time do you want to wake up in the morning
W: 7:00 a.m. I want to go jogging before breakfast, and then we have that play to go to with my
parents at 11:00.
M: What ever happened to sleeping in on the weekend
W: You can sleep in if you want to. I always feel better when I get up early.
M: Whenever you get up early, your alarm wakes me up. I can’t go back to sleep, and then I’m
tired for the rest of the day.
W: How about you get up early with me tomorrow and we sleep in on Sunday
M: OK. But in the future, let’s not make any plans that involve seeing your parents before noon!

M: Hello, you look lost. Can I be of assistance
W: Oh, thanks. You’re right. I am lost. I’m looking for the Student Union building.
M: You’re close; it’s just across the playground. It’s the three-story brick building over there.
W: I see, thanks a lot. You’ve been a big help.
M: Excuse me for saying so, but you’re not from around here, are you Are you British or what
W: Actually I’m Australian. I’m an exchange student. You’re an American, I assume
M: Yes. By the way, I’m Sam Jones.
W: I’m Mary Donald. Pleased to meet you.
M: So how long have you been in the States, Mary
W: I’ve been here about three weeks now. So, what’s your major, Sam
M: I’m studying medicine now. What’s yours
W: I’m not sure yet. I’m kind of interested in business but my parents believe psychology will be
hot in the future.
M: So, do you live in the dorm
W: Actually no, I have a small apartment about five blocks from here. Well, I have to run. Thanks
for your help. Maybe we’ll run into each other again sometime.
M: Could be, it’s a pretty small college. Nice to meet you, Mary. See you later.
W: See you.

W: What do you think I should do for my birthday this year
M: You should have a really big party! Maybe a pool party!
W: That would be fun. I don’t really like swimming, though. Maybe I’ll have a roller-skating
party.
M: What about an ice-skating party
W: Yeah, that’s even better! I’ll definitely invite Katie and Sammy.
M: What about Melinda
W: Yes, Melinda, too. Do you think I should invite Kelly
M: No, because she didn’t invite you to her party last month. Am I allowed to invite anyone
W: You can invite one friend, but that’s it.
M: Fine. I’ll invite Mike. You should have a winter-themed party. If Mom and Dad say it’s okay to
rent out the entire place, we can decorate it with balloons. I know your favorite cake is cheese-
cake, but you should get an ice-cream cake instead.
W: Those are all great ideas. Maybe I can even get a snow machine!
M: You can call the party “Patty’s Wonderland”. Maybe Mom will let us rent some winter animals,
like deer and penguins!
W: Okay, don’t get ahead of yourself. I don’t think that would be possible.
M: Yeah, I guess you’re right.

M: Do you know how to get inexpensive airline and train tickets On a recent flight, Laura was chatting happily with me in the seat until the conversation turned to fares. I bought my ticket 3 weeks in advance and paid $148. Laura paid the full fare of $480. She decided that next time she would find out how to travel for less.
Here are some useful ways to travel for less.
Cheap airline tickets. To fly for less money, you can buy non-refundable plane tickets 2 or 3 months before your trip. The cheapest way to fly is as a guide. In return for delivering a package for a guide company, you get a plane ticket that costs as little as one quarter of the regular fare or even less if the company needs someone at the last minute. Recently, a guide flew a round trip from New York to Hong Kong for $100; a regular ticket costs around $1,800.
Train passes. If you are going to do a lot of travelling by train, a train pass will save your money. Train passes can be especially useful in India, which has the world’s largest rail system; in Japan, where trains are fast and convenient; and in Europe, where trains go to over 30,000 cities. The Rail Europe Group even offers senior passes for those of 60 years of age and over, youth passes for those under 26 years of age, and provides a great bargain.
