What time of day can you think most quickly Are you a morning person Or does it take you a few hours to get your brain going A lot of recent research suggests that we should pay attention to our body clock. It can tell us what time of day we can perform best at.
Many people work best later in the morning. This is because the body’s temperature takes time to rise through the day. Taking a warm shower when you wake up can help your body’s temperature rise quickly.
But everyone’s body clock is different and some are special. Morning people will get up early and work better early in the day. Evening people will work later but work better towards the end of the day.
Research shows that we’re better at some activities at certain times of the day. Physical performance is at its best between 3 pm and 6 pm, so it’s better to exercise later in the day.
Between noon and 4 pm, people begin to pay less attention. This is because we think less quickly after a big meal. Research also shows we become sleepy around 2 pm. This is why people in Spain take a short sleep in early afternoon.
Finally, it is best to eat when we’re active. This allows our body to burn calories better and stops our blood sugar levels from getting too high.
24. Which can tell us what time of day we can perform best at
A. Morning people B. A warm shower
C. Our body temperature D. Our body clock
25. What is the best time for physical performance
A. Between 3 pm and 6 pm. B. Between 7 pm and 10 pm.
C. Between noon and 4 pm. D. Between 5 am and 8 am.
26. Why is it best to eat when we’re active
A. Because eating makes the brain unable to think quickly.
B. Because it makes our blood sugar levels higher.
C. Because our body can burn more calories.
D. Because our body needs a short sleep.
27. What is the best title for this article
A. How can we work better B. The best time to exercise
C. How can we keep healthy D. The perfect time to do something

Every year thousands of tourists visit Pompeii, Italy. They see the sights that Pompeii is famous for its stadium and theatres, its shops and restaurants. The tourists do not, however, see Pompeii’s people. They do not see them because Pompeii has no people. No one has lived in Pompeii for almost 2000 years.
Once, Pompeii was a busy city of 22000 people. It lay at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, a grass-covered volcano. Mount Vesuvius had not erupted for centuries, so the people of Pompeii felt safe. But they were not.
In August of AD 79, Mount Vesuvius erupted. The entire top of the mountain exploded, and a huge black cloud rose into the air. Soon stones and hot ash began to fall on Pompeii. When the eruption ended two days later, Pompeii was buried under 20 feet of stones and ashes. Almost all of its people were dead.
For centuries, Pompeii lay buried under stone and ash. Then, in the year 1861,an Italian scientist named Ginseppe began to uncover Pompeii. Slowly, carefully, Ginseppe and his men dug. The city looked almost the same as it had looked in AD 79.There were streets and fountains, houses and shops. There was a stadium with 20000 seats. Perhaps the most important of all, there were everyday objects, which tell us a great deal about the people who lived in Pompeii. Many glasses and jars had some dark blue color in the bottom, so we know that the people of Pompeii liked wine. They liked bread too; metal bread pans were in every bakery. In one bakery there were 81 round, flat loaves of bread-a type of bread that is still sold in Italy today. Tiny boxes filled with a dark, shiny power tell us that women liked to wear eye-makeup.
Ginseppe has died, but his work continues. One-fourth has not been uncovered yet. Scientists are still digging, still making discoveries that draw the tourists to Pompeii.
28. Why do large numbers of people come to Pompeii each other
A. To visit the volcano. B. To shop and eat there.
C. To watch sports and plays. D. To see how Pompeiians lived.
29. Why had so many people remained by volcanic Mount Vesuvius
A. The city nearly offered all kinds of fun.
B. The area produced the finest wine in Italy.
C. Few people expected the volcano to erupt again.
D. The mountain was beautiful and covered with grass.
30. Why did the city uncovered look almost the same as it had looked in AD 79
A. Because Ginseppe and his men dug it slowly and carefully.
B. Because the city was buried alive and remained untouched.
C. Because scientists successfully rebuilt the city with everyday objects.
D. Because nobody had lived in the city ever since the volcano erupted.
31. What do we know about the Pompeiians who lived 2000 years ago
A. They lived more or less the same as Italians now do.
B. They liked women wearing all kinds of makeup.
C. They enjoyed a lazy life with drinking and eating.
D. They went back to Pompeii after the eruption in AD 79.

How to make friends at a new school
Starting with a new school can be difficult. Everything is nothing like your previous school and you don't even know where to go for your own classes. 36 However, if you use these skills, you can quickly turn some of those strangers into friends.
Be yourself.
37 If some people don't accept you, they're not the kind of friend you need. People often stay together because they have similar interests. For example, someone who does a lot of sports may make friends with those who also run or swim a lot.
38
Remember to be nice to the people you meet at your new school. If you think that you will say something that may make them feel sad, do not say anything and just nod your head if they talk to you. Also, remember to be as helpful as possible!
Believe in yourself.
A smile goes a long way. When you walk in the halls, don't keep your eyes on the floor. Raise your head and make eye contact with other people. 39 Introduce yourself. Tell them your name and where you're from.
Remember people’s names.
You like it when people use your name, and so do other people. 40 Besides, ask them in a kind way if they have a nickname. You'd be amazed that this might come in handy.
A. People may become angry if you just begin by saying "Hey" each time.
B. Be friendly to others.
C. Take part in after-school activities you like.
D. Making new friends can be hard, too.
E. Don't sit at the back of the classroom where other people don't notice you!
F. If you see someone you know, smile or say "Hi".
G. Never change who you are to try to fit in.
