Main points Examples
Many sound effects might not be made in the way you would expect. (1)
The sounds of a baby elephant, a tiger and other animals were mixed by a computer to make a dinosaur roar in Jurassic Park. The sound of the doors opening was made by pulling a sheet of paper out of an envelope in the Star Trek films.
Main points Examples
(2) The Quidditch scenes in the Harry Potter films were made with the actors jumping in front of a green screen.
The aid of computers is not always preferred. (3)
The director of The Lord of the Rings films used clever camera angles to make characters seem bigger or smaller than they really were.
Scenes
requiring
CGI are filmed in front of a green screen.
Main points Examples
Props contribute to a film’s success. (4)
Director James Cameron spent six months looking at and revising plans of the Titanic in order to build a full-sized model for his 1997 film. It took 500 workers 100 days to build the fine model.
An example of rhetorical device(修辞手法)
He is the apple of my eye.
There is, of course, no apple in someone’s
eye. It means he is my favourite.
A metaphor compares one thing to another without using “as” or “like”. It draws the reader’s attention to the similarities between two things.
Definition of metaphor:
The film critic uses a metaphor in his lecture to describe the fact that a lot of work is done behind the scenes in film-making. Find the metaphor in the lecture.
The sentence using metaphor:
Just as the poor passengers on the real Titanic saw the tip of the iceberg, what we see on the cinema screen is just the tip of the huge iceberg of film-making.
Explanation:
In this sentence, film-making is compared to an iceberg as they share some similarities. As we can see only a small part of a huge iceberg out of the ocean, what we see on the screen when seeing a film, is also just a small part of film-making. A huge amount of work lies unknown to the audience, just like the rest of the iceberg is hidden beneath the ocean. Using a metaphor, the film critic clearly conveys to the audience the large amount of work that has been done behind the scenes in film-making.
Let me start by asking a question: what's the1. (one) thing you notice about a film 2. (actual), the film you see on the screen is the product of a huge amount of hard work, most of which takes place behind3. scenes.
4. (begin) with, I'd like to draw your attention to a film's sound effects, which are often added after a scene 5. (shoot) and might not be made in the way you would expect.

Another aspect I attach great importance 6. is visual special effects. As green doesn't match any natural hair or skin colour, actors can be easily separated from the background, scenes7. (require) CGI are frequently filmed in front of a green screen. Props, contributing to a film's success, require a lot of work.To make a film look much 8. (real), great effort must be made to research, find and build objects. All in all,9. we see on the cinema screen is just the tip of the huge iceberg of film making. Hopefully, next time you go to the cinema, you'll spare a thought for all those (talent) 10. people.

Mini-Writing
My favorite film
Ladies and gentlemen, good morning,
I enjoy watching movies, sometimes just for visual entertainment, but most times for the broader view of the world presented by the films. There are several movies impressed me most. One of those is an inspirational film called "the pursuit of happiness ", which gives me many feelings and inspirations.
The leading actor, Chris Gardner is a poor salesman. His wife could not stand the hard life and left him. Then he lived a tough life with his 5-year-old son. Sometimes they had to go to sleep at the shelter, even once they stayed in the public toilet. However he was never beaten by the difficulties. He held a strong faith and remained optimistic all along. Meanwhile, he tried his best to protect his son. Through his efforts, he got through an interview and obtained a formal work. At last he got his happiness with belief.
This movie does touch and inspire me a lot. It gives me the strength to keep going when the struggles and obstacles come along. God helps those who help themselves. No matter how bad the situation is, I will never give up. I believe that if I protect my dream, and fight for my dream, then the tomorrow is mine. Life is filled with hope. I want to make my life excellent.
That's all. Thank you!
Reflection
From the lecture, we know that what we have seen on the cinema is just the tip of the huge iceberg of film-making . There is a huge amount of hard work which has been done behind the scenes and which is unknown to most of us .People who work behind the scenes deserve our respect and we should be thankful to them. We would not have seen so many wonderful films without them. They are real heroes behind the scenes in our mind . So, let's think of and appreciate their hard work.
