After almost an entire year of not going shopping and vacationing, you find the numbers reflected by your bank account meet your heart’ s desire.
Now the most important question comes, what to do with the earnings Should you fulfill dreams of the present, invest in preserving the future or perhaps keep saving it for a rainy day
Our elders always try to teach us the value of money and its moral weakness. One may be on a winning streak (连续成功) now, but it will not always be so. One will have days when there will be no sunshine but only rain, and their luck will hide behind those thick grey clouds. Save for those rainy days, they say. Do not spend too much, live within a budget, refrain from credit no matter how small and save for the future.
Since the very first time we earn our own money from a summer job or earning our first salary, the lessons start. In fact, the pocket money that we receive when we are children begins the process of learning how to best manage one’ s money.
People often think like this — one day when I have enough money, I will travel the world. Then, once we do earn enough money, tomorrow’ s plans start shadowing our present ones. However, is it wise to keep living for that future Will we still enjoy or even be able to backpack in our 50s How will we ever enjoy our present if we are constantly living for the future
Good questions, aren’ t they I say travel but don’ t let yourself run dry, treat yourself to some luxuries but also keep enough for your necessities, and enjoy your present but with a plan for the foreseeable future. Life is for the living, so live it sensibly.
24. Why do elders teach us to save money
A. Because there are more rainy days in life. B. Because no one can win streak.
C. Because good days may end. D. Because money can’t buy everything.
25. What does the underlined phrase “refrain from” mean in Paragraph 3
A. select from B. prefer to C. rely on D. hold back
26. Which of the following opinions would the author agree
A. To enjoy yourself in the right time.
B. To wait to travel until we have enough money.
C. To go backpacking in our 50s.
D. To live for the future.
27. What should we do with the earnings according to the author
A. We should save all for rainy days. B. We should fulfill our dreams.
C. We should entertain ourselves. D. We should live the present wisely.
C
Almost every day we come across situations in which we have to make decisions one way or another. Choice, we are given to believe, is a right. But for a good many people in the world, in rich and poor countries, choice is a luxury, something wonderful but hard to get, not a right. And for those who think they are exercising their right to make choices, the whole system is merely an illusion, a false idea created by companies and advertiser, hoping to sell their products.
The endless choice gives birth to anxiety in people’s lives. Buying something as basic as a coffee pot is not exactly simple. Easy access to a wide range of everyday goods leads to a sense of powerlessness in many people, ending in the shopper giving up and walking away, or just buying an unsuitable item that is not really wanted. Recent studies in England have shown that many electrical goods bought in almost every family are not really needed. More difficult decision-making is then either avoided or trusted into the hands of the professionals, lifestyle instructors, or advisors.
It is not just the availability of the goods that is the problem, but the speed at which new types of products come on the market. Advances in design and production help quicken the process. Products also need to have a short lifespan so that the public can be persuaded to replace them within a short time. The typical example is computers, which are almost out-of-date once they are bought. This indeed makes selection a problem. Gone are the days when one could just walk with ease into a shop and buy one thing; no choice, no anxiety.
28. What does the author try to argue in Paragraph 1
A. The exercise of rights is a luxury. B. The practice of choice is difficult.
C. The right of choice is given but at a price. D. Choice and right exist at the same time.
29. Why do more choices of goods give rise to anxiety
A. Professionals find it hard to decide on a suitable product.
B. People are likely to find themselves overcome by business persuasion.
C. Shoppers may find themselves lost in the broad range of items.
D. Companies and advertisers are often misleading about the rage of choice.
30. By using computers as an example, the author wants to prove that ________.
A. advanced products meet the needs of people B. products of the latest design flood the market
C. competitions are fierce in high-tech industry D. everyday goods need to be replaced often
31. What is this passage mainly about
A. The variety of choices in modern society.
B. The opinions on people’s right in different countries
C. The problems about the availability of everyday goods.
D. The helplessness in purchasing decisions
D
Why do you go to the library For books, yes—but you like books because they tell stories. You hope to get lost in a story or be transported into someone else’s life. At one type of library you can do just that—even though there’s not a single book.
At a Human Library, instead of books, you can “borrow” people. People with unique life stories volunteer to be the “books.” For a certain amount of time, you can ask them questions and listen to their stories, which are as fascinating as any you can find in a book. (If you attend, be sure to review the habits that make you a good listener.) Many of the stories have to do with some kind of depressing topic. You can speak with a refugee, a soldier suffering from PTSD(创伤后遗症), a homeless person and a woman living with HIV. The Human Library encourages people to take time to truly get to know and learn from someone they might otherwise make a snap judgement about. According to its website the Human Library is “a place where difficult questions are expected, appreciated and answered.”
The Human Library Organization came to be in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2000. Romni Abergel and his colleagues hosted a four-day event during a major Northern European festival. After the success of this event, Abergel founded the Human Library Organization, hoping to raise awareness among youth about depression, which has been growing ever since.
Though there are a few permanent human libraries, most aren’t places at all, but events. Though many do take place at physical libraries, you don’t need a library card—anyone can come and be part of the experience. There have been human library events all over the globe, in universities and in pubs, from Chicago to Tunis to Edinburgh to San Antonio. Check out the organization’s Facebook page to see when the Human Library might be arriving near you.
32. What shall we do before going to the Human Library
A. Bring a book. B. Get a library card.
C. Make an appointment. D. Go over some listening habits.
33. What does the underlined word “snap” in Paragraph 2 mean
A. True B. Quick. C. Wrong. D. Obvious.
34. Why did Ronmi Abergel found the Human Library Organization
A. He expected to answer different questions.
B. He successfully held an event in Northern Europe.
C. He wanted young people to pay attention to depression.
D. He had set up the Human Libraries all over the world.
35. What is the best title of the text
A. “Borrow” People Instead of Books B. Human Library Organization
C. Human Library Is Near You D. A Library in Denmark

Every day, the most important person you talk to is yourself. That's to say, your own thoughts matter. If you lack confidence as an English speaker, you may say things like, "English is too hard" "I'm so sorry for my English." What's worse, you are sure to start believing them. ___37___.
To sound more confident, speak loudly and slowly enough so that people can easily hear you. Many English learners worry that speaking too slow will make them sound inexperienced. ___38___. So avoid worrying that you are speaking too slow for the people around you.
___39___ If you are not confident, you may try to say as little as possible. For example, if asked what people's favorite color is, an English learner may give a short, direct response like, "blue", while a native English speaker is likely to say, “Well, to be quite honest, I don't really have an actual color, but I guess I may go for something like blue or grey.”
Reading out loud can help build confidence in how your English sounds. List words you have trouble saying and later check their pronunciation. ___40___. So avoid checking word meanings in a dictionary while reading.
A. Speak in complete sentences and give longer responses when possible.
B. Take a few minutes to read the materials that you enjoy aloud.
C. So replace unhelpful thoughts with better ones when speaking

W: Today, we will talk about a different school, In Boulder, in the United States, there is a school called the Boulder Outdoor Survival School(BOSS), BOSS is the world’s oldest survival school. It teaches people how to survive outside without tents, or even backpacks, In Bryce Canyon, the days are very hot and the nights are very cold. There are no heaters to keep warm. Not everyone wants to go to this kind of school and try living without modern inventions like TVs, and computers. Students at BOSS quickly learn that staying positive, working hard, and trying new things are important if they want to complete the training. The people who go to survival camps don’t just learn to camp. Students at BOSS go into the wild for days, and sometimes weeks, to learn how nature can give them everything they need to survive. They learn how to find freshwater, make a fire, find food to eat and use knives. Most of all, BOSS students learn to survive in the wild without harming the environment. After these people go back to the real world, they may never use these talents again. Even if they don’t, they will always know that they can live without computers, electricity, and cellphones—even if it is only for a few days!
