although是英语中的一个连词，意为”虽然；尽管“。在英语表达习惯中，当表示”虽然......,但是......”这样的意思时，althong是不和but在同一个句子中使用的。也就是说，在同一个句子中，有although就没有but,反之亦然。例如：
Although the car is old, it still runs well.
(=The car is old, but it still runs well.）
I don't want to go to bed, although it's past midnight.
(=It's past midnight,but I don't want to go to bed.)

这是英语中的一句谚语，用来说明习惯一旦养成，并非朝夕可以改变，其中，die hard表示“（旧习惯、传统等）难以改变；根深蒂固”。在本句中，hard用作副词，表示“费力地；艰难地；努力地”，又如：
It's important to work hard but we must also have time to relax. 努力工作是重要的，但是我们也必修有时间放松。
