For fishermen and sailors in the seaside town of Shangpan in Linhai, Zhejiang province, where recently 12 stranded(搁浅的)whales were found, it is not unusual to see whales or dolphins in the sea — they would always call them haizi, or “son of the ocean”. And if the local fishermen see such intelligent sea creatures in need, they will save them from danger without hesitation.
In the recent rescue of melon-headed whales, they tried their best to help as a 37-second video of a young man sleeping in the water holding a whale soon went viral online, with netizens thinking highly of his constant efforts and caring heart in trying to keep the whale alive. “The melon-headed whale knew I was trying to save it and would be more cooperative and wouldn’t move.” said Lu Wenhui, a 21-year-old diver from Hangzhou Changqiao Polar Ocean Park, who held up the whale’s head so it could breathe easily. Lu had been staying in the water for 10 hours by 4 a.m. Wednesday after coming for the rescue work on Tuesday, when the stranded whales were first spotted.
“Whales are mammals and need to breathe in air — that’s why I had to hold its head, to ensure it could breathe smoothly the whole time,” Lu said. The stranded whales, after the struggling of being transported, were worn out when they arrived at the fish farm and might have drowned if they were left unattended(无人照顾的).
The reason why the whales were stranded is still not clear. And these stranded whales were returned to the ocean because they are not adapted to artificial breeding(人工繁殖) environments on land.
24. What do local fishermen usually do after finding haizi in danger
A. Ignore them. B. Protect them. C. Transport them. D.Feed them.
25. Why does the author describe Lu’s rescue work
A. To praise the efforts made by rescuers. B. To express his views on the diver.
C. To introduce the whales in detail. D. To explain the value of the whales.
26. What can we say about the melon-headed whales according to the text
A. They are rarely seen by locals.
B. They are used to breathing in the sea.
C. They are fond of swimming near the seaside.
D. They aren’t suited to artificial surroundings.
27. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. Melon-headed Whales Were Stranded
B. Rescuers Went out to Help Whales
C. Fishermen Transported Stranded Whales
D. Witnesses Voiced Opinions on Rescue Work

It had been a "long" and hard walk from home to the subway station for teenager Mandy Chan when she first put on hanfu in public. Chan is one of the founders of hanfu in Hong Kong. "It was a set(套装)with a cream-colored shirt, a brown jacket in China's Ming dynasty style and a red pleated skirt made by me," she recalled recently, almost 10 years later.
It was not the looks from others but her limited knowledge on the traditional Chinese clothing that had made her terrified. Chan added, "If anyone had asked what I was wearing, or the history behind it, I would have been afraid I couldn't tell them the whole picture."
However, her anxiety had gradually drifted (远离)away with more in-depth research on traditional Chinese culture. Hanfu was the traditional clothing of China's Han ethnic group that was formed in the main residential areas of the Han people in ancient China. The historical clothing has untold stories and ideas in every detail. The cutting and stitching line in the middle part of hanfu fits the spine of the human body and helps people to dress properly. This design, which has transcended(超越)itself as mere decoration, points to the qualities of the wearers as upright and mild individuals.
"Instead of imitating people like what I used to do, I have jumped out of my comfort zone and found the style that suits me best," Chan said. "Through hanfu, I have found myself and so many unexplored things in my life." Chan added that she had found her lifelong passion through hanfu, which is a goal and dream that has never been absent from her life. Chan found she was not alone after falling in love with hanfu. She believes that classics will never go out of style and she herself has incorporated(使并入)hanfu into her everyday life.
28.Why did Chan feel uneasy when she first wore hanfu in public
A. Her clothes were worn out. B. She didn't like looks from others.
C. Her clothes didn't suit her properly. D. She had a limited knowledge of hanfu.
29.What is special about hanfu in design according to paragraph 3
A. It never goes out of fashion.
B. It has many different styles for choice.
C. It shows personal qualities of its wearers.
D. It appeals to people of all ages and social groups.
30.What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Hanfu has a strong influence on Chan.
B. Hanfu will be a big business in China.
C. Hanfu will take the lead in the fashion.
D. Hanfu allows her to get to know more people.
31.In which part of a magazine may we read this text
A. Sports. B.Culture C. Health. D. Travel

Everyone is afraid of something. Maybe you're afraid of spiders, or heights, or dogs, or the dark. And traditionally, we’ve thought that's because you learned to be afraid. Probably because you had a bad experience with something at some point. But there's a different idea out there that's been getting more attention lately: the idea that fears aren’t just learned …they also can be inherited (遗传).
It sounds like a wild idea. How do you inherit something as abstract as fear But over the last fifty years, researchers have been studying just how much fears have to do with inheritance and genetics. And their results have been kind of surprising.
In this work, they’ve put a lot of effort into understanding one extreme kind of fear, called a phobia. To get a sense of how much genes influence fear, scientists have begun looking at identical twins. Since identical twins have almost the same DNA,researchers can figure out how heritable(遗传的) a fear is by comparing how often specific phobias appear in identical twins as opposed to other brothers or sisters. Because even though twins often have lots of similar experiences, they probably don't share the types of experiences that cause phobias — like getting bitten by a dog or falling out of a tree.
One 1998 study of 659 pairs of identical and fraternal twins(异卵双胞胎) in Australia looked at how many had a fear of blood. The study found that genetics accounted for 71 percent of the variation among those people, meaning genetic factors play a pretty big role in determining whether a person has some specific fear.
A 2016 study also found that fear of dental work was over 30 percent heritable. So, if you arc afraid of going to the dentist, it really might not be your dentist's fault. Overall, first-degree relatives of people with phobias are more likely to have similar phobias than people with no family history.
So, it's pretty clear that phobias arc heritable!
32. What docs the author mean by saying the underlined sentence in Para. 2
A. It's surprising that people know so little about inheritance and genetics.
B. It's unbelievable that people can inherit something so abstract like fear.
C. It's natural that people become afraid of things that they had bad experience with.
D. It's interesting that people arc afraid of so many things such as spiders and the dark.
33. Why did the scientists choose identical twins as their test subjects
A. They looks very much alike. B. They have similar personalities.
C. They share basically the same DNA. D. They have shared experiences.
34. What did the author try to prove by mentioning the studies in Para. 4 and 5
A. Dentists arc scary to many kids.
B. Most people have some kind of fear.
C. Fear of blood is the most common phobia.
D. Fear of things can be a result of genetic inheritance.
35. What does the passage mainly tell us
A. People tend to learn to be afraid.
B. Fear has much to do with a bad experience with something.
C. Phobias have something to do with inheritance and genetics.
D. Twins are more likely to feel afraid of something than others.

Union is strength. Whenever you’re facing with difficulties or in a dilemma, cooperation plays an important part in getting you out of trouble. There was a time when I was too proud that I overlooked my classmate, refusing to work together with them. Therefore, it was no doubt that I was left alone, suffering from loneliness and failure. Unfortunately, a teacher impressed on me the value of cooperation. From then on, I learned to help others and turn to my friends for the help whenever I had difficulty finish a task on my own. Surely cooperation made a great difference. Now I am getting well with my friends. My experience has taught me that only if we attach great importance with cooperation can we go beyond ourselves. As the saying go, “United we stand; divided we fall.”

作文
Dear Editor
Thank you for reading my letter. I am a senior three student writing to share my experience. I volunteered to be a tutor in my community library on July 20, 2021. I took care of 10 primary school students ranging from Grade 1 to 3. In the morning, I gave a helping hand when they had any difficulties in doing their homework. In the afternoon, I first taught them how to draw animals and then hosted a story sharing in which all children told stories they like most.
The community library is a wonderful place for kids whose parents are busy working in the summer. Exhausted as I was after the full-day's work, I felt delighted and proud as I actively contributed to their growth.
Yours,
Li Hua

W: How's your mother now I heard she had an operation last week.
M: She is much better. Thank you. But she still needs to stay there for two more weeks.
(Text 2)
W: Where shall I drop you off, sir
M: I'm going to the airport, but please stop at the Healey Supermarket. My wife is waiting for me there. We're going to Canada together.
(Text 3)
W: You seem to have a lot of work to do at your office. You're always staying late and working overtime.
M: That's true. But the work is interesting. I don't mind extra hours at all.
(Text 4)
W: I have to take an examination every day next week.
M: I have one on Monday, another on Tuesday and two on Friday, none on Wednesday and Thursday, I'm thankful for that.
(Text 5)
M: Is there anyone available to help make a copy of my DVD
W: No, not until tomorrow. But you can do it yourself by following the instructions on the computer.
(Text 6)
W: Hello, emergency line. What can I do for you
M: I am calling to report an accident.
W: Could you give me some details, sir
M: A truck hit a car on Highway 204.

M: I'm not quite sure. The driver of the truck says he is OK. But the lady in the car might have broken her leg.
W: May I have your name, sir

W: Don't you have any good news
M: No. Yesterday I had to stay after school, because I was talking during my biology class.

W: I don't understand.
M: Because I fell asleep during the class, but it wasn't my fault. The lesson was very dull.
W: I advise you to take school more seriously. If you don't pass your exam, you'll have to drop out and work as a result.
M: I don't think that it makes much difference. If I have a job, I have to do dull work every day, but if I'm in school, I must listen to dull teachers every day.

(Text 10)
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most lasting works and may become one of the true classics of this generation. It played a great part in his winning the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 and the 1954 Nobel Prize in Literature and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world. Hemingway is also one of my favorite writers. Besides The Old Man and the Sea, I have read some of his other works, such as The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms and The Snow of Kilimanijaro. But The Old Man and the Sea is the one that left the deepest impression on me. This novel mainly wrote about one old man alone in the sea who fishes. He caught one big fish. But he met a shark on the way home. The old man used all his skills to fight with the shark. At last, the fish he caught was eaten up by the shark, but he never gave up. This book shows to us that the confidence is just like the automobile motor, and is power which makes the person go forward.
