Until quarantine (隔离期) ends, we are left picturing what sport we might do: working out at the gym, playing on a competitive sports team, swimming, biking, or rock climbing. However, we don’t often think of martial arts as possible activities; instead, we rule it out because we think it’s dangerous, uncommon, and even, impossible. Martial arts aren’t considered a sport, right
Well, here’s some good news: you’re wrong! Martial arts aren’t much more common than people think, and you can start learning at any age. Practicing martial arts is a great way to keep in shape, both physically and mentally. They’re much less boring and much less arduous sport than they’re usually described as in movies, so do not worry that they need a lot of effort.
Martial arts generally require you to focus on the position and movement of every one of your legs and arms, sometimes even your breathing too. Think about it: when you leave the gym, your mental state has improved and you are much calmer. This is because you’ve only paid attention to one activity. It is a great way to clear your head. And practicing it can help you learn to stay more focused, which is the greatest advantage of martial arts training.
Martial arts also improve your coordination (协调性), and greatly improve your posture (姿势). I have personally seen students go from slouching (没精打采) to walking tall with their shoulders back in just a couple of months.
There are many styles and countless kinds of martial arts. Whichever one you like better, know that all of them are good choices.
8. What can we know about martial arts from the first two paragraphs
A They often have people hurt. B. They are difficult to practice.

A. Adjusting the breath. B. Enjoying one’s free time.
C. Correcting the movement. D. Keeping one’s attention.
11. What does the writer think of martial arts
A. They are not sports. B. They attracted many teenagers.
C. They are beneficial and helpful. D. They were invented to protect others.

More children in China are putting on weight. In 2018, 16 percent of Chinese children were overweight, according to the National Health Commission (NHC).
Being too fat is bad for children’s health. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), overweight children are more likely to develop diseases like diabetes (糖尿病) at a younger age. This can lead to a higher chance of earlier death.
On Oct 23rd, the NHC, together with five other national departments, worked out a plan. The plan aims to reduce the growth of fatness among children aged 0—18 years by 70 percent from 2020 to 2030, Xinhua reported.
Kids are putting on weight because of changes in their diet and lifestyle, according to experts. Too much schoolwork and greater use of electronic devices (电子产品) could also be a cause.
According to the plan, teachers should not allow their classes to run too late or too early. They should make sure that students have breaks and enough physical (躯体上的) activity. School students should have at least three hours of active physical activity each week.
Parents should reduce their children’s use of electronic devices and stop their children from eating foods that are high in sugar, fat and salt.

A. We should reduce the growth of fatness among adults.
B. Changing in children’s diet and lifestyle leads to being too fat.
C. Too much schoolwork maybe leads to being too fat.
D. Greater use of electronic devices could cause children to put on weight.
14. School students should have active physical activity for ________.
A. three hours a day
B. more than three hours every day
C. at least three hours each week

Yoghurt
It was a rough week. The price of oil skyrocketed as the temperature dropped sharply in Maine. We were looking at a high of eight degrees that week and I had missed three days of work so my paycheck was going to be lower than normal. I was stressed, to say the least. I shopped strategically, looking for every possible way to cut pennies so I could buy groceries and keep the house warm.
My eight-year-old son didn’t understand when I told him we were struggling that week. He wanted a special kind of yoghurt, but I didn’t have the extra three dollars to buy it for him. It was the kind of yoghurt with a cartoon kid riding a skateboard on the front of the box, and a mere two spoonfuls in each cup. It was the kind of product that wastes a parent’s money and makes me hate advertising.
I felt guilty as a parent when those big eyes looked at me with confusion, as if to say, “It’s just yoghurt. What’s the big deal ” So I found a way. I put something back as single mothers often do. He got his yoghurt.
On the way driving back from the grocery store, I noticed a homeless man holding a sign by the side of the road. My heart hurt, and I tried not to look at him. I watched people stay away from him on the street and walk by without even meeting his eyes. My son didn’t seem to care much, either. I looked at the man closely then— bare hands grasping a piece of cardboard, snot (鼻涕)frozen to his face, a worn-out jacket. And there I was struggling because I had to buy oil and groceries. But I decided to help him. I pulled over to the man and handed him a five-dollar bill.
Seeing this, my son became confused and surprised.

A. They often have people hurt. B. They are difficult to practice.
C. People have a wrong view on it. D. People practice them more often.
9. What does the underlined word “arduous” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Interesting. B. Difficult. C. Friendly. D. Exciting.
10. What is the biggest benefit of practicing martial arts
A. Adjusting the breath. B. Enjoying one’s free time.
C. Correcting the movement. D. Keeping one’s attention.
11. What does the writer think of martial arts

第二节 (满分25分)
47. 阅读下面短文, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
Yoghurt
It was a rough week. The price of oil skyrocketed as the temperature dropped sharply in Maine. We were looking at a high of eight degrees that week, and I had missed three days of work so my paycheck was going to be lower than normal.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
On that day, my son performed an act that most adults wouldn’t have done
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Seeing this, my son became confused and surprised. “Mum, why are you so generous to this stranger while so mean to me when I asked for a yoghurt ” I explained that if we were blind to the poor man’s situation he would be freezing. He didn’t have a home or food to eat after all. We could spare five dollars even if we were financially stressed. Finally my son nodded and fixed his eyes on his yoghurt.
On that day, my son performed an act that most adults wouldn’t have done. He took his yoghurt and handed it to the man outside his window. Even if it was a matter of a few spoonfuls of yoghurt, it was all he had, and he gave it to someone who needed it more than he wanted it. He showed me that I am doing well as a mother. There are always blessings to count if we open our eyes, and we always have the opportunity to be a blessing to someone else.

Even if it was a matter of a few spoonfuls of yoghurt, it was all he had, and he gave it to someone who needed it more than he wanted it.
高级句式的应用提升了写作的档次,整个短文显示出了作者高水平的英语表达能力。
