A few years ago, I had the honor of traveling through Accra, Ghana, an African city. As I rode down a main avenue, images grabbed my attention. On one side of the street, African children dressed in rags were playing in an open gutter (排水沟). On the other side of the street, there was a billboard advertisement featuring palm trees, a beach, and a white man lowering sunglasses from his eyes. If you are a fan of the American police shows, it’s not hard to see that the man in the ad is David Caruso, the righteous(正义的) cop in Crime Scene Investigation: Miami.
The dichotomy of images was a reminder not only of the international impact of American pop culture, but of the specific influence of TV police shows.
In Hollywood, I’m a rare creature, a black man who has made a career writing for network police shows, having eventually created my own show, S.W.A.T., for CBS. For me, writing television can never simply be about entertainment. The unjust death of the African American George Floyd keeps me wondering how the shows we are writing contribute to the understanding of the justice system, class, race, and the image of black men. I look at this not as a creative burden, but a necessary responsibility.
The past 60 years have seen numerous cop shows like Dragnet and Adam 12, where police, typically are beacons(灯塔) of morality who never do wrong while criminals are always people of color, particularly black men. This can make for wildly popular entertainment, but it also risks mistaking fantasies for reality. People watch TV to see heroes, but how are we defining who a hero is For people of color, especially black people, the viewing experience is complex.
4. The images the author saw in Africa imply________.
A. the unrealistic advertisement
B. TV police shows’ great popularity
C. poor education of African children
D. the background of American culture
5. What does the underlined word “dichotomy” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Contrast. B. Trend.
C. Confusion. D. Boom.
6. What can we learn about the author
A. He writes plays for pleasure.
B. He is very creative and influential.
C. He has created many shows including Dragnet.
D. He has high sense of justice and responsibility.
7. What’s the author’s attitude to traditional TV police shows
A. Ambiguous. B. Objective.
C. Disapproving. D. Appreciative.
【答案】4. B 5. A 6. D 7. C
【解析】

【5题详解】
词义猜测题。根据文章第一段“On one side of the street, African children dressed in rags were playing in an open gutter. On the other side of the street, there was a billboard advertisement featuring palm trees, a beach, and a white man lowering sunglasses from his eyes. (在街道的一边,非洲的孩子们衣衫褴褛,在露天的水沟里玩耍。在街道的另一边,有一个广告牌广告,棕榈树,海滩,和一个白人男子放下太阳镜从他的眼睛。)”可知,此处为两种不同的画面进行的对比。故选A项。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段“The unjust death of the African American George Floyd keeps me wondering how the shows we are writing contribute to the understanding of the justice system, class, race, and the image of black men. I look at this not as a creative burden, but a necessary responsibility.(非裔美国人乔治·弗洛伊德(George Floyd)的不公正之死让我一直在想,我们正在写的电视剧对理解司法体系、阶级、种族和黑人形象有何贡献。我不认为这是一种创造性的负担,而是一种必要的责任。)”可推断,作者有高度的正义感和责任感。故选D项。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“This can make for wildly popular entertainment, but it also risks mistaking fantasies for reality.(这可能会成为广受欢迎的娱乐,但也有可能将幻想误以为现实。)”可推断,作者对传统警匪片的态度是不赞成的。故选C项。

People who seek comfort by pouring their hearts out in Courtney’s office don’t get rewarded with an Xanax or Prozac prescription (处方). Instead, they walk away with a reading list of some fictions.
Such fictions as To Kill a Mockingbird and The Color Purple teach you complicated topics like racism, poverty, bullying and other issues. They could also help you know your own heart and others’. Keith Oatley, a psychology professor at Toronto University, recommends novels that help us understand the characters from the inside rather than plot-driven novels. We can learn from a literary masterpiece, such as Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway, or from popular fictions such as Harry Potter. Spending quality time with these characters as you relax on the beach or sit propped up on bed pillows may enhance your EQ (emotional intelligence).
Lab tests seem to show this. Brain scans of people who have been reading fictions show the area that corresponds with emotion lights up. Even if you are not a keen reader, there’s still hope. Past studies have shown serial TV programs that are character driven such as The West Wing or The Good Wife also help you better understand what we human beings are up to. Other studies have shown watching character-driven sitcoms can lessen a viewer’s prejudice.
You can be as witty as Sherlock, but to get along well in this life, you really do need to understand people emotionally. And you can’t be as emotionally unavailable as Mr. Darcy throughout much of Pride and Prejudice. You have to learn the lesson Jane Austen is trying to teach with that book. Kieth said, “To love people, you really have to know them.” People say you only get one life, but I say read fictions and you can live many lives in one.
8. Which statement is true according to the passage
A. Reading novels cures diseases.
B. Plot-driven novels are not beneficial.
C. Woolf stands out as a novelist.
D. Brain scans influence people’s EQ.
9. How is the third paragraph mainly developed
A. By listing numbers and data.
B. By following time order.
C. By providing some evidence.
D. By using good comparisons.
10. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Sherlock gets along well in life.
B. Darcy is not very emotionally intelligent.
C. Keith loves reading Austen’s novels.
D. Reading fictions can lengthen our life.
11. What is the best title for the text
A. The Collapse of Traditional Prescription B. Ways to boost EQ
C. Suggestions on Choosing Right Novels D. Reading Fictions Benefits EQ
【答案】8. C 9. C 10. B 11. D

Instead, they walk away with a reading list of some fictions.”(在Courtney办公室里倾吐心声寻求安慰的人,不会得到阿普唑仑或者百忧解处方,相反,他们走的时候,会带走一张要读的小说清单),可知本段引出文章主题,当人们情绪有问题时,医生不会给开药物的处方,而是给病人推荐一些小说,再结合下文,作者所举的例子及论述,可知本文主题是“阅读小说对人的情商有益”,D选项最适合作文章标题。故选D。

When it comes to work, workers, and jobs, much of the concern of the modern age boils down to the fear that we're witnessing the final stage of the game, and that there will be nowhere for humans to withdraw as machines take over the last few tasks. The most recent example comes from the use of artificial intelligence (AI). Is there no area of human experience that can't be replaced by AI And if not, what is left for humans to do except the tasks involved in taking care of the machines
At the heart of this concern is our desire for good jobs — jobs that make the most of workers' natural abilities and where the work provides the worker with motivation and work-life balance. More importantly, good jobs support workers in learning by doing—and, in so doing, deliver benefits on three levels: to the worker, who gains in personal development and job satisfaction; to the organization, which reforms as staff find new problems to solve and opportunities to pursue; and to the community as a whole, which harvests the economic benefits of hosting positive organizations and workers. This is what makes good jobs productive for the organization, as well as engaging and fulfilling for the worker.
Does the ongoing advance of AI threaten to get rid of all the learning, creativity, and meaning that make a job a good job Certainly, some have blamed technology for just such an outcome. Headlines today often express concern over technological innovation(革新) resulting in bad jobs for humans, or even the complete disappearance of certain professions. Some fear that further technology advancement in the workplace will result in jobs where employees are being asked to work in split times or for longer periods over more days.
The problem here isn't the technology; rather, it's the way the technology is used — and, more than that, the way people think about using it.
12. What is the passage mainly about
A. The human fears in the age of AI.
B. Human experiences were replaced by AI.
C. How to take care of the AI machines.
D. The relations among work, workers, and jobs.
13. What jobs are supposed to be good according to the passage
A. The ones that provide basic benefits.
B. The ones that require no economic return.
C. Those that don't bring new problems to workers.
D. Those that offer chances to progress professionally.
14. How do news media respond to the development of AI
A. Supportive. B. Optimistic. C. Negative. D. Ambiguous.
15. What will the author probably talk about next
A. The proper attitude towards AI. B. The future jobs humans will do.
C. The possible application of AI in the future. D. The approaches to handling the issues of AI.
【答案】12. A 13. D 14. C 15. A

【分析】本文是说明文。文章关于如何购物时如何解决大规模的包装浪费问题给出了建议。
【16题详解】
上文“After the Singles Day, nearly 490 million packages were delivered every day. As more people prefer online shopping, the amount of waste generated has become a matter of concern.( 光棍节之后,每天有近4.9亿个包裹被投递。随着越来越多的人喜欢网上购物,产生的垃圾数量已成为一个关注的问题。)”提出了购物产生的垃圾问题,下文的黑体小标题给出了如何保持购物更环保的建议,因此空格处承上启下,引出下文的建议,E项中的“the massive packaging waste problem”与上文的“the amount of waste”一致。故E选项“我们应该如何解决大规模的包装浪费问题?”。故选E。
【17题详解】
上文“Recycled material should be used as much as possible, which can break down easily.”
根据下文“Always keep in mind that it is the consciousness of reusing the packaging that counts.( 永远记住,重用包装的意识才是最重要的。)”可知,本段建议重新使用包装袋。故选A。
19题详解】
上文“It’s necessary to deliver the goods with package instructions.”说明阅读包装说明是必要的,所以选项说明这么做的益处是什么。G项中的“guide consumers to deal with the packages”与之相符,they指代上文提到的package instructions。故G选项“他们可以引导消费者以环保的方式处理包装。”切题。故选G。
【20题详解】
上文“Policies and regulations should be introduced to ensure that packaging will be recycled and reused. Meanwhile, a recycling system needs to be established where the e-commerce platforms, delivery companies and consumers can engage in the green packaging campaign.”说明应该出台政策和法规,以确保包装将被回收和再利用。建立回收体系,让电子商务平台、快递公司和消费者都可以参与绿色包装运动。因此空格处应该与政策有关,下文“In addition, tax preference can also be offered for the packaging recycling and reusing toward the e-commerce platform and express companies.”说明可以对电子商务平台和快递公司在包装回收再利用方面给予税收优惠。可推断,空格处与此处是并列关系,应是采取的措施,D项“不遵守规则的人将受到惩罚。”是政策措施。故选D。

Lily worked busily on her spelling test. Mr. Federer sat at the desk, ensuring every student was taking the test on his own. Her palms sweating, her heart racing, Lily double-checked the words on her paper. Should her words be all correct, she would win the competition and plus a brand new tennis racket (球拍).
Two more words to go. L-o-v-e-l-y. D-r-y-l-y. H-o-n-e-s-t-y. Wait! She’d spelled honesty, not honestly. With her hand trembling, she wrote the correct form of "honest". Then she handed in the paper with brimming confidence.
The next day, Mr. Federer marched into the classroom, stack of papers in hand. Seeing this, Lily sat restlessly in her seat with her fingers crossed. She felt her heart would bounce out of her mouth. Mr. Federer planted himself in the front of the classroom, cleared his throat and announced: “Way to go, Lily! You made it!” Amid loud bursts of applause, Mr. Federer presented Lily with the prize. Holding the box containing the tennis racket, Lily was walking on air.
When school was dismissed, Lily hurried home, dying to tell her mother the good news. “What’s up ” Mom sensed something usual and asked after Lily seated herself. “Mom, guess what! I won the spelling test!” Lily said proudly. Mom hugged her, asking her to show the test paper to Dad when he got home. Instinctively, Lily took another look at the test paper, but was horrified to find “H-O-N-E-S-L-Y”. She suddenly felt dizzy and her face was burning.
Mom smelled a rat and asked what was wrong. “I am just ... too excited,” Lily stammered, hastily stuffing the test paper into her backpack. Mom brought her some tea. Yes, a “t” was exactly what she needed.

1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
About one hour later, Dad came home.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】About one hour later, Dad came home. Hardly had he put down the briefcase when Mom eagerly announced the good news. Hearing this, Dad walked to Lily’s room, great delight sparkling in his eyes. “I am so proud of you, girl!” Dad said, giving a gentle pat on her back. But Lily didn’t dare to meet her father’s gaze. Guilt swallowed her. Finally, summoning up her courage, Lily said in a low voice: “I don’t deserve the prize. I misspelled ‘honestly’.” Then tears streamed down. Seeing this, her father uttered that honesty matters more than prize. He suggested Lily should tell the teacher the truth.
The next morning, Lily went to school earlier than usual. She made her way to Mr. Federer’s office. When he saw Lily, a surprised look crossed his face, for Lily came to school extra early today. But instantly he knew with his experience that Lily had a story to tell. “I can’t keep these. I spelled “honestly” wrong and you didn’t catch it,” Lily said clearly, giving Mr. Federer the spelling paper and the tennis racket. For a moment, Mr. Federer just stood rooted to the ground. Then picking up his pen, he crossed out “perfect” and wrote “honest” on the paper. “Please keep the tennis racket. But for honesty”.

C
C By providing some evidence.
D
