Sutton said he’d leave school at 3:30 pm, then walk miles to his job at the restaurant. After his work, which usually lasted six to eight hours, he walked home, sometimes not arriving back until almost midnight.
That all changed when Myers saw him walking down the road in the rain in December. “The young man was insistently in a rush walking to work, saying ‘I can’t be late,’” Myers said. “He begged me to give him a ride(搭车). It was _revealed_to me that his name was Jayden, 12th grader, worked 40 hours a week, walked 5 miles to work immediately after school, got off at 10:30 pm at night and walked back home another 5 miles if co-workers didn’t offer a ride.”
After dropping Sutton off, Myers said his heart and determination filled her with tears. “He was smiling in good spirits and that’s a child worth blessing,” she told Fox News. So, Myers shared Sutton’s story on the GoFundMe page, which raised more than $ 9, 000 from 186 donors.
She surprised Sutton with a new car after she managed to convince(说服) the general manager to drop the price of the car to meet the budget(预算).
24. Why did Sutton work so hard in his spare time
A. To gain working experience. B. To pay for his education.

As Internet users become more dependent on the Internet to store information, are people remember less If you know your computer will save information, why store it in your own personal memory, your brain Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how.
In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow conducted some experiments. She and her research team wanted to know the Internet is changing memory. In the first experiment, they gave people 40 unimportant facts to type into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would save the information. The second group understood that the computer would not save it. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it.
In another experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the Internet. The information was in a specific computer folder (文件夹). Surprisingly, people later remember the folder location (位置) better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. Rather, they remember how to find it. This is called “transactive memory (交互记忆)”
According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memories as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memories; that is, people are learning how to organize huge quantities of information so that they are able to access it at a later date. This doesn’t mean we are becoming either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.
28.The passage begins with two questions to ________.
A.explain how to store information. B.show the author’s attitude.
C.describe how to use the Internet. D.introduce the main topic.
29.What can we learn about the first experiment
A.Sparrow’s team typed the information into a computer.
B.The two groups remembered the information equally well.
C.The first group did not try to remember the formation.
D.The second group did not understand the information.
30.In transactive memory, people ________.
A.keep the information in mind B.change the quantity of information
C.remember how to find the information.
D.organize information like a computer
31.What is the effect of the Internet according to Sparrow's research
A.We need a better way to access information.
B.We are using memory differently.
C.We are becoming more intelligent.
D.We have poorer memories than before.
D
Maybe you are still in high school or even in middle school. It is never too early to prepare to receive higher education. Having a better education usually means earning more money and studies have proven that those with a college degree earn more than those who graduate from high school.
It’s obvious that more education does you good but what do you need to do to make that happen First of all, you need to make sure you clear up some misunderstandings. Not all colleges are the same. Before you decide where you go, you first need to decide on what you wish to major in. And don’t restrict your choices. Try to pick out several universities that you want to attend because the more choices you have, the more chances you will have to be admitted to a university.
The next step is to find out how much attending a certain university or college charges you. Some places like community colleges charge very low and private universities charge extremely high. But don’t get discouraged. There are still ways to pay for them. By winning scholarship(奖学金), student aid programs or getting student loans(贷款), you can pay for an education that you have dreamed of.
Before you can even attend the college, your information has already gone to it. From your grades to your after-school activities, they must consider everything that you have done during your high school years to see if you are suited to attend their universities. You have to do well in your high school exams and the tests that most universities require. From school clubs to after-school community service programs that you may have volunteered for, they will take into consideration what kind of activities you took part in to have a much better understanding of you.
32. The underlined word “restrict” in the second paragraph is closest in meaning to ________.
A. make B. limit C. offer D. change
33. According to the author you should choose a college that ________.
A. charges very little B. charges very much
C. is the most famous D. you like most
34. According to the text, after-school activities will help you ________.
A. be admitted to college B. make a lot of friends
C. learn to be a volunteer D. learn about society
35. In the text the author mainly tells us ________.
A. the advantage of going to university B. how to choose a suitable university
C. how to prepare for college education D. what we should do in high school

Recently, students in our class have had a discussion on whether space is worth exploring.
30% of the students think space exploration is not worthwhile. They think space is too far away from us and our daily life to solve practical problems. Meanwhile, it is a waste of money exploring space. The money spent on space exploration can be used to solve the earth's problems such as starvation and pollution.
On the other hand, 70% think space is worth exploring, from which we have benefited a lot, such as using satellites for communication, transmitting data, and forecasting weather. What's more, not only may we solve the population problem by moving to other planets one day with further space research, but also space research will enable us to find new sources to solve the problem of energy shortages on the earth.
