Bullying(欺凌) can happen to anyone. A great many children around the world are bullied every year, but there are things that can be done to help.
What is bullying
Bullying is when someone makes you feel bad or hurts you again and again. Bullying can happen at school, out of school and online. Bullying includes:
·calling people mean(恶意的) names
·laughing at people
·telling lies about people
·taking someone's things without permission(准许)
·not letting someone play in a group
·hitting people
What is cyberbullying
Cyberbullying includes:
·sending bad messages online
·sharing photos online without permission
·not letting someone be part of an online group
·spreading lies online
What can you do
If someone is not kind to you, tell an adult that you know and like. For example, talk to a parent or a teacher.
If you get bad messages, don't reply. You should save them and give them to your teacher, your family, or the police. Ask an adult for help. Don't share something before you make sure it is true. That will help stop the cyberbullying.
Talk to your parents or teacher or an adult if you see bullying or if you are worried about a friend.
Say sorry if you are not kind to someone. You can write a message or talk to the person. And always remember: think about how to be kind in the future.

There is a famous English saying "You are what you eat", and it means what you put in your mouth will become part of you. Many experts (专家) use it to tell people it's important to have a good eating habit. For example, too much sweet food makes a person overweight. To avoid being fat, kids are told to keep off sweet food. However, a team of American scientists have discovered something new about eating sweet food.
"When we say some people 'sweet', we mean they are kind and friendly to us. Perhaps this word can help us learn more about people's feelings and acts. " said Brian Meier, a scientist from the study team. "Taste is something we experience every day. What we have done is to find whether we can know someone's character and behavior depending on their taste. "
In one of their experiments, college students were asked questions about their character-whether, for example, they were soft-hearted or not. Then they were asked to make a list of their favorite food. According to their answers, the scientists found that the students who liked sweet food were nicer.
In their another experiment, the scientists found that people who preferred sweet food such as cookies and chocolate were more willing to help other people in need, and those who ate non-sweet food such as chips weren't. For example, people with a sweet tooth were more likely to volunteer to clean up their city, visit sick children in the hospital and so on.
The result of the experiments is that people's helpfulness or being nice has something to do with their taste for sweet food. So eating sweet food is a useful way to make people nice and helpful. Next time, try some ice-cream.

Micro blogs like Weibo are nothing new for the young Chinese. A newspaper in Chengdu did a survey last month. It found that 90 percent of junior high school students use micro blogs.
They give students an outlet (出口) for emotion. “I use micro blogs to record my life. I let everyone ‘see’ my feelings and complaints (抱怨),” said Liu Fangyue, 14, from Xiamen No. 1 Middle School. They have fun with classmates even after school. “I would send a message to praise someone who came first in the exam,” said Liu.
Teachers also join in the fun. “When I sit down to talk to my students, they may not tell me their real thoughts,” said Lu Dongping at Nanning No. 2 Middle School. “But on micro blogs, they are more relaxed. They even make fun of me.”
You would be wrong if you think micro blogs are all about fun. Zhong Yun from Xiamen Haicang Experimental School sees it as a tool (工具) to learn English. The 13-year-old girl follows foreign stars such as Avril Lavigne and Justin Bieber.
“In order to understand their English posts, I have to check the dictionary and learn many new words,” said Zhong.
“Micro blogs widen students’ perspectives (观点), but there are rules to follow,” said Shi Zhongying, a professor from Beijing Normal University. He shares some of them with micro bloggers.
“Manage your time, and don’t let micro-blogging affect your studies and health,” said Shi. “Don’t give out your name, family address or phone number on micro blogs. You should also respect (尊重) truth and other people’s privacy (隐私).”

In today’s world of modern science and medicine, a more traditional treatment is once again becoming popular—animal friendship.
It is now well known that people with problems such as heart disease or cancer live longer and get better more quickly if they have pets. Keeping pets lowers blood pressure (压力) and makes people less worried. Animals are more and more important in treating older people who have memory loss and other brain (脑部〉problems. These people often feel nervous and unhappy. Activities with animals help them improve their physical condition and also give them joy, entertainment (娱乐)and loving friendship.
Here is a case that shows the good points of animals. John was a six-year-old mute. He had no physical (生理的)problems. He just refused to talk. His older cousin,Ned,had a parrot called Sally, and John used to visit it. When he arrived,Net used to say,“Hi,John!” We all know parrots copy what they hear. After a few visits, Sally began saying “Hi,John!” when John came into the room. Then, one day, John turned to the parrot and replied “Hi, Sally!” Staying with the parrot encouraged John to begin talking.
Another use of animal helpers is in schools. In some cases, animals are used to help children with physical or personal problems. In other cases, they are used to teach children to get on and share with others, and even to teach them about animals.
If you want to know more about animal helper programmes, you can get in touch with organizations like Riding for the Disabled or do a search under “animal therapy” on the Internet. You don’t have to be an animal trainer or a doctor to join in.
