Music and art festivals are fun and exciting events. If you're planning to go to a festival, it's important to plan your trip carefully to ensure that you're safe and have a good time.
■Bring clothes to keep warm or cool
In addition to your fun festival clothing, pack a raincoat, some light tank tops, and a sweater or sweatshirt. Don't forget longer pants for cool evenings or bad weather. In general, it's best to leave your umbrella at home because it can be dangerous in large crowds.
■Get a cheap tent and sleeping bag for multi-day festivals
A majority of people end up throwing their tents away after long festivals, since they normally break from the use. Pick up a less expensive tent with enough room for you and your friends and pack a comfortable sleeping bag for yourself. If you don't want to camp at the festival, remember to book an Airbnb or a hotel room nearby!
■Place a first aid kit in a proper place
Before the festival, buy a small first aid kit with the Band-Aid, and any medication that you need to take, in case you get minor injuries or a headache. Keep it in a proper place that's easily accessible, like your tent or car.

“Serena, don't forget your promise to me that you will mow (修剪) Mrs. Martin's yard this weekend,” said Dad. “Don't let me down.” Serena was the oldest child in the family, and one of her chores was to mow their yard. Mrs. Martin, their elderly neighbor, was unable to take care of her yard, so Serena's dad had volunteered Serena for this job. Since Mrs. Martin's yard was not very big, Serena knew the job would go quickly.
However, she still resented her dad's promise.
“Why didn't you ask me first ” Serena complained.
“Did you ask me first when you volunteered me to be in the school festival last fall ” asked Serena's father.
“Well, no, I didn't ask you first, but you would have done those things anyway. You're always willing to help.”
“I try when I can,” Dad answered.
“Serena, we have known Mrs. Martin for a very long time. She has often helped our family. Now we can do something for her. Besides, the feeling you get from helping someone makes you wonder who is really helping whom.”
“I don't know, Dad,” said Serena. “The only feeling I get from mowing our yard is tired.”
“Just wait and see,” said Dad.
After breakfast, Serena made her way to Mrs. Martin's yard. She was good at her job and soon had Mrs. Martin's yard looking tidy. Mrs. Martin came outside with a big glass of orange juice and offered it to her. Serena stopped her work and gratefully enjoyed the drink, while Mrs. Martin talked to her about all of the flowers in her yard. Seeing the joy in Mrs. Martin's eyes, Serena began to understand how much the yard meant to Mrs. Martin.
After finishing her drink, Serena returned to work with a new attitude. A warm feeling began to spread through her body. Her dad was right. It was hard to tell who was helping whom!

How do you know if a watermelon is perfectly ripe Well, one theory is that if you knock hard on the outside, the sound you hear will help determine if it's ready to eat. That theory led to a huge online debate in China about what kind of people tend to engage in the art of “watermelon knocking”.
The discussion, which thousands of people contributed to on the Chinese micro-blogging site Sina Weibo, was kicked off by an unknown event thousands of miles away in Italy.
It all began when a Chinese social media user posted the picture of a sign in an Italian supermarket asking customers not to knock on the watermelons. The sign was stuck in a full box of watermelons which read,“Please stop knocking on the watermelons. They will not respond to it!”
There was no indication that the supermarket was targeting this message at customers with Chinese heritage. The sign was in Italian, not Mandarin. But somehow it was taken as an attack on a practice which some Chinese observers regarded as being unique to their national customs.
Many shared jokes aimed at the supermarket sign.
Online users are keen to show they know better, especially on the subject of watermelons.
A quick online search will reveal that Chinese social media users are not alone in their thinking. Watermelon knocking and listening for a hollow sound is indeed a nearly universal concept. It even appears in films. The popular Russian cartoon, Nu, pogodi!, includes watermelon knocking as part of an episode.
There are no absolute guarantees about what to do when it comes to choosing fruit. But at the risk of causing an international diplomatic incident we would suggest some common ground about what to look for to choose the perfect watermelon.
Feel the weight of the melon. The heavier, the better.
Press on the watermelon. It should feel firm and if it springs back, it's ready to eat.
Look at the markings on the melon. A yellow patch on one end indicates it's ready.
Of course if all these fail, you could always, knock and wait for a reply.
8.What was the cause of the heated discussion
A.The art of watermelon knocking.
B.Whether the watermelon is ripe.
C.The traditional Italian customs in the supermarket.
D.The picture of a sign in an Italian supermarket.
9.The author writes the article in a(n) way.
A.serious B.humorous
C.approving D.critical
10.In the text, the author suggests a lot of methods of selecting watermelon EXCEPT .
A.by feeling the weight
B.by waiting for a response
C.by pressing
D.by observing markings
11.What is the purpose of this text
A.To bring up an international diplomatic incident.
B.To present a research result.
C.To give practical advice by telling a story.
D.To introduce the traditional customs of Italy.

It may seem as if Mother's Day was invented by a company named Hallmark, but people have been taking time on the calendar to give a shout-out to Mom for a long time. The Greeks and Romans had mother goddess festivals—although their celebrations didn't involve the menfolk taking their underappreciated mothers out to dinner. A more recent tradition was Mothering Sunday, which developed in the British Isles during the 16th century. On the fourth Sunday in April, young men and women who were living and working apart from their families were advised to return to their mothers' houses.
Mother's Day as it is observed in the United States started in the 1850s with Ann Jarvis, a West Virginia woman who held “Mothers' Work Days” to promote health and hygiene(卫生) at home and in the workplace. During the Civil War, Jarvis organized women to improve clean conditions for soldiers on both sides, and after the war she became a peacemaker, furthering the cause by bringing together mothers of Union and Confederate soldiers and promoting a Mother's Day holiday.
Jarvis's work inspired another 19th-century woman, Julia Ward Howe. In 1870 Howe published her “Mother's Day Proclamation”, which imagined the day not as appreciation of mothers by their children but as an opportunity for women to exercise their collective power for peace. Howe started holding annual Mother's Day celebrations in Boston, her hometown, but after about a decade she stopped footing the bill and the tradition faded away.
It was Jarvis's daughter Anna who succeeded in getting Mother's Day recognized as a national holiday. After her mother died, in May 1905, Anna started holding yearly ceremonies on the anniversary and conducting a tireless PR campaign to make the day a holiday. In 1908 she succeeded in enlisting the support of John Wanamaker, the Philadelphia department store magnate(巨头) and advertising pioneer, and by 1912 West Virginia and a few other states had adopted Mother's Day. Two years later, President Woodrow Wilson signed a resolution(决议) declaring the second Sunday in May a national holiday.
It wasn't long, though, before whatever ideals the day was supposed to celebrate were buried under an amount of greeting cards and candy.By the 1920s Anna Jarvis was campaigning against the holiday she had been instrumental in creating.“I wanted it to be a day of emotionalism, not profit,” she said.
12.The first paragraph suggests that .

A.Ann Jarvis. B.Julia Ward Howe.

A.Because it was an emotional day.
B.Because the festival was not profitable.
C.Because the celebrations went against the original spirit.
D.Because the day was buried under greeting cards and candy.

The second advantage is the atmosphere. 29 listening to a recording 30 on your personal music player, at a concert you are 31 with a huge crowd of people and 32 the music together. This means it is a 33 as well as an artistic experience.
The main problem is that you cannot listen to live music whenever you want as you can on a personal music player. Besides, the noise from the audience sometimes damages the quality of the sound.
In my opinion, however, the best way to enjoy music is in the wonderful atmosphere of a live concert. It is more 34 because you are surrounded by other 35 who are dancing with you happily.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
John Blanchard stood up, straightened his army uniform(制服), and studied the crowd making their way through the station. He looked for the girl whose heart he knew, but whose face he didn't, the girl with a rose.
His interest in her began thirteen months ago in a library. Taking a book off the shelf, he found himself fascinated, not with the words of the book, but with the notes penciled in the margin(页边的空白). The soft handwriting showed a thoughtful soul and brilliant mind. In the front of the book, he discovered the owner's name, Miss Hollis Meynell. With time and effort, he found her address. She lived in New York. He wrote her a letter, introducing himself and inviting her to correspond(通信). The next day he was shipped overseas for military service.
During the next year and one month, the two began to know each other by mail. Each letter was a seed falling on both hearts. A romance was budding. Blanchard asked for a photograph, but she refused. She felt that if he really cared, it wouldn't matter what she looked like.
When the day finally came for him to return from Europe, they scheduled their first meeting—7 pm at Grand Central Station in New York. “You'll recognize me,” she wrote. “By the red rose I'll wear my dress.” So at 7:00 he was in the station, looking for a girl whose heart he loved, but whose face he'd never seen.
A young lady was coming toward him. Her figure was long and slim; her blonde hair lay back from her ears; her eyes were blue as flowers; her lips and chin had a gentle firmness, and in her pale green suit she was like springtime coming alive. He went toward her, entirely forgetting to notice that she was not wearing a rose. As he moved, a middle-aged woman whispered, “Going my way, Sir ”
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Paragraph 1:
Almost uncontrollably he made his way to the woman, and then he noticed that she was wearing a rose.

Paragraph 2:
The woman's face broadened into a big smile.

第三部分 写作
第一节
One possible version:
Good morning, my dear friends. I'm Li Hua.Welcome to our school. Knowing you're keen on traditional Chinese culture, I'd like to introduce a traditional Chinese festival to you—the Dragon Boat Festival.
The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, so it's also called the Double Fifth Festival. On that day, we usually eat zongzi—sticky rice dumplings wrapped in reed leaves. As the festival name shows, people hold dragon boat races to celebrate it, especially in the southern places in memory of Qu Yuan, a great poet of ancient China. Therefore, it's regarded as a day of mourning and cherishing the memory of Qu Yuan.
Thanks for your listening.
第二节
One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
Almost uncontrollably he made his way to the woman, and then he noticed that she was wearing a rose. To be sure, she should be the girl he was looking for though John Blanchard was kind of disappointed to see the woman, who was in her forties. Thinking that it doesn't matter what she looked like, he walked toward the woman, greeted her and held out the book with the owner's name he had found in the library. “I'm John Blanchard, and you must be Miss Meynell. I am so glad I could meet you and may I take you to dinner ”
Paragraph 2:
The woman's face broadened into a big smile. “I don't know what this is about on earth,” she answered, “but the young lady in her pale green suit who just went by begged me to wear the red rose on my coat. And she promised if you were going to ask me out to dinner, I should tell you that the young lady is waiting for you in the big restaurant across the street. She said it was just a test!”
