As Internet users become more dependent on the Internet to store information, are people remembering less If you know your computer will save information, why store it in your own personal memory, your brain Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how.
In a recent study,Professor Betsy Sparrow conducted some experiments. She and her research team wanted to know how the Internet is changing memory. In the first experiment, they gave people 40 unimportant facts to type into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would save the information. The second group understood that the computer would not save it.Later, the second group remembered the information better.People in the first group knew they could find the information again,so they did not try to remember it.
In another experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the computer. The information was in a specific computer folder (文件夹).Surprisingly, people later remembered the folder location (位置) better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information.Rather, they remember how to find it.This is called “transactive memory (交互记忆).”
According to Sparrow,we are not becoming people with poor memories as a result of the Internet.Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memories;that is,people are learning how to organize huge quantities of information so that they are able to access it at a later date. This doesn't mean we are becoming either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.
24.The passage begins with two questions to________.
A.introduce the main topic
B.show the author's attitude
C.describe how to use the Internet
D.explain how to store information
25.What can we learn about the first experiment
A.The Sparrow's team typed the information into a computer.
B.The two groups remembered the information equally well.
C.The first group did not try to remember the information.
D.The second group did not understand the information.
26.In transactive memory,people________.
A.keep the information in mind
B.change the quantity of information
C.organize information like a computer
D.remember how to find the information
27.What is the effect of the Internet according to Sparrow's research
A.We are using memory differently.
B.We are becoming more intelligent.
C.We have poorer memories than before.
D.We need a better way to access information.

Recently, online high schools in America have caused a debate about whether or not taxpayers’ money should be used to support online education. Online schools receive the same amount of funding as all other public schools, even though they don’t have to pay for rent or school equipment. States should use their educational funds to improve education at real schools, not to support online programs.
Some students only use online classes to supplement(补充)their school work. They benefit from the social experience of a traditional high school, while still taking online courses.
However, about 90 thousand students in America receive their education only from online schools. 50 thousand of these students take courses at Florida Virtual School, the largest online school in the country. While this method of schooling helps students who live in remote regions, most school systems are upset that they are losing more students each year to these online programs.
Although online learning allows children to work at their own pace, these online schools have only one teacher per several hundred students. Often, teachers can’t give struggling students the help they need as they are unable to talk face-to-face with them, to find exactly what they’re having difficulty with.
Additionally, even though online schooling accommodates(顾及)students who live in more remote states, students in online programs may suffer in social situations because they will not learn valuable communication skills from their schooling. Similar to students who are home schooled, those who take only online classes won’t learn social etiquette(礼节), and will be treated differently by their peers.
Online schooling might be useful for places where there are not enough students for a real school, such as agricultural regions, but states should only spend taxpayers’ money on online schools in extreme cases.
28. What is the passage mainly about
A. Whether students should study at online schools.
B. Whether online schools should be allowed to exist.
C. Whether taxpayers should pay for online schools.
D. Whether traditional schools should be replaced.
29. According to the passage, online schooling _____.
A. is helpful to students living in remote regions
B. allows students to work together
C. makes it possible for students to get immediate help
D. develops students’ critical thinking
30. According to Paragraph 5, the author worries that students at online schools _____.
A. might lose interest in learning B. would play online games
C. could not receive teachers’ help D. could not become fully developed
31. What is the author’s attitude
A. Taxpayers should not pay for online schools at all.
B. Taxpayers should pay more for online schools than real schools.
C. Taxpayers’ money should be spent on online schools conditionally.
D. Taxpayers should support online schools in different ways.
D
Everybody, at some point in their lives, has experienced failure. It could be something as simple as not getting the job you wanted, or getting fewer marks even after hard work. But what makes you is not your failure, but how you get back up after being hit.
Once, a young school boy was caught in a fire accident in his school and was assumed that he would not live. His mother was told that he was sure to die, for the terrible fire had destroyed the lower half of his body. Even if he were to survive, he would be lame throughout his life.
But the brave boy did not want to die nor did he want to be lame. Much to the amazement of the doctor, he did survive. But unfortunately from his waist down, he had no motor ability. His thin legs just hung there, lifeless. Eventually he left the hospital. But his determination to walk was unshakable. At home, when he was not in bed, he had to stay in a wheelchair. One day, he threw himself from the chair and pulled himself across the grass, dragging his legs behind him. He reached the fence, raised himself up and then began dragging himself along the fence, firmly determined. He did this every day, with faith in himself that he would be able to walk unaided. With his iron determination, he did develop the ability to stand up, then to walk on and off, then to walk by himself and then to run.
He began to walk to school, and then run to school, to run for the joy of running. Later in college he was on the track team.
In February 1934, in New York City's Madison Square Garden, this young man who was not expected to survive, who would surely never walk, who could never hope to run-this determined young man, Dr. Glenn Cunningham, ran the world's fastest mile.
A good example of the power of positive thinking and faith in one's self, Glenn Cunningham continues to be an inspiration for many, and his story, a brilliant evidence to how one can bounce back even when all difficulties are piled against one, to the degree that death seemed the preferable option.
(32)What was the doctor's opinion about Glenn
A. Glenn was able to walk with his own great effort.
B. Great determination could make a difference to Glenn.
C. There was a slim chance that Glenn could survive.
D. Glenn could live a normal life with the upper half of his body.
(33)The underlined word “unaided” means _______
A. without help B. for himself
C.with disability D. without hesitation
(34)What do we know about Glenn
A. Glenn took recovery exercise in hospital.
B. Glenn inspired people with his moving story.
C. Glenn won the first place in Marathon.
D. Glenn organized a track team in college.
(35)What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Strengthen determination B. Stand up after failure
C. Go after dreams D. Face difficulty bravely

第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
Every Chinese-language textbook starts out with the standard phrases for greeting people. But as an American, I always found myself unable to speak freely when it came to 41 guests at the door. Just a goodbye would not do, yet that was all I had ever 42 the books. So I would smile and nod, bowing like a Japanese and searching 43 for words that would smooth over(缓和)the visitors' leaving and make them feel they would be 44 to come again. In my unease, I often hid behind the skirts of my Chinese husband's kindness.
Then finally, listening to others, I began to pick up the phrases that eased relationships and sent people off not only successfully but also skillfully.
The parting for the Chinese includes a lot of necessary habitual practice. Although as a 45 I'm not expected to observe or even know all the rules, I've had to learn the expressions of politeness and 46 at a leave-taking.
The Chinese feel they are 47 to see a guest off to the farthest possible point-down the flight of stairs to the street below or perhaps all the way to the nearest bus stop. I've sometimes waited half an hour or more for my husband to 48 from seeing a guest off, 49 he's gone to the bus stop and waited for the next bus to arrive.
That's all very well, but when I'm the guest being seen off, my polite refusals are always 50 .My hostess or host, or both, insist on seeing me down the stairs and well on my way, with my repeating the "Don't trouble to see me off" at every landing. If I try to go fast to discourage them from following, they are simply out to the discomfort of having to run after me. Better to 51 the inevitable.
Besides, that's going against Chinese 52 , because haste(doing things quickly)is to be avoided. What do you say when you 53 someone?People often say "Go slowly" 54 "Farewell". To the Chinese it means" Take care" or" Watch your 55 ", or some such caution, but translated literally it means "Go slowly".
41.A.taking over B.talking about C.seeing off D.worrying about
42.A.picked up B.learned from C.known of D.referred to
43.A.madly B.explicitly C.endlessly D.cautiously
44.A.content B.ready C.welcome D.eager
45.A.wife B.guest C.hostess D.foreigner
46.A.decline B.laugh C.explain D.weep
47.A.likely B.responsible C.certain D.supposed
48.A.disappear B.recover C.return D.escape
49.A.although B.unless C.if D.since
50.A.effective B.unnecessary C.useless D.adequate
51.A.accept B.ignore C.attain D.inform
52.A.laws B.customs C.traditions D.beliefs
53.A.speak with B.meet with C.part from D.call on

A teacher in New York decided to honor each of her seniors in high school by telling them the difference they each made. She called each student to the front of the class, one at a time. First she told them how the student made a difference to her and the class. Then she presented each of them
with a blue ribbon (缎带) imprinted with gold letters which read, “Who I Am Makes a
Difference. "Afterwards the teacher decided to do a class project to see what kind of influence
recognition (认可) would have on a community. She gave each of the students three more ribbons and instructed them to go out and spread this acknowledgment (认可) ceremony. Then they were to follow up on (跟踪) the results, see who honored whom and report back to the class in about a week.
One of the boys in the class went to a junior manager in a nearby company and honored him
for helping him with his career planning. The boy gave him a blue ribbon and put it on his shirt.
Then he gave him two extra ribbons, and told him what it was all about.
Later that day the junior manager went in to see his boss, who had been noted, by the way, as
being kind of a conceited( 傲慢的) fellow. He seated his boss down and he told him that he
deeply admired him for being a creative genius. The boss seemed very surprised. The junior
manager asked him if he would accept the gift of the blue ribbon and give him permission to put it
on him. His surprised boss said, “Well, sure." The junior manager took the blue ribbon and placed
it right on his boss' s jacket above his heart.
As he gave him the last extra ribbon, he said, "Would you do me a favor Would you take this
extra ribbon and pass it on by honoring somebody else The young boy who first gave me the
ribbons is doing project in school and we want to keep this recognition ceremony going and find
out how it affects people.”
