Once there was a king ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )who wanted to find the answers to what he considered the three most important questions in life. The three questions are: when is the right time for every action, who are the most important people, and what is the most important thing to do The king consulted learned men, promising he would richly reward anyone who could answer the questions, but their answers didn’t satisfy him. In the end, he decided to visit a wise hermit who lived in the woods. The hermit would speak only with common people, so the king put on simple clothes.
When he got close ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )to the hermit’s hut, he ordered his bodyguards to wait behind. He approached the place and found the hermit digging. He asked the wise man his three questions, but the hermit didn’t respond. Seeing how old and weak the hermit was, the king began helping him dig. The king dug for hours, but the hermit never answered his questions. Just as the king was about to leave, a wounded man came running to the hut and fainted before them. Then the king carried the wounded man to Hermit’s hut and took care of him. The king was exhausted and fell asleep as well. When he awoke, he talked with the man, who said that he had wanted to kill the king but was wounded by his bodyguards. He asked for forgiveness and promised to serve the king faithfully.
Afterwards, t ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )he king went outside and repeated his questions to the hermit once more. The hermit replied, “If you had not helped me dig earlier, you would have left and been killed by the man. So, the most important man back then was me, and the most important time was when you were digging. The most important thing to do was to be kind to me. When the wounded man arrived, he was the most important person, and saving him was the most important thing. By doing so, you made peace with an enemy.” The king finally had his three answers. The most important time is the present, as it’s the only time we have the power to act. The most important person is the one you are with, and the most important thing is always to be kind.

When it comes to the l ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )etter grade on your test or homework, you might notice that there is no letter E. Have you ever thought about why that is so www.21-cn-jy.com
In the A, B, C, D and F grading system, the first four letters are typically considered passing grades. An F in this system simply stands for“fail”.The word“fail”happens to start with the letter F, which seems to leave out the letter E. The fact”.Some schools have U grade for“unsatisfactory”,or I grade for “incomplete”.
( http: / / www.21cnjy.com / )
Even with all thi ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )s said, we should also point out that E grade actually has been【来源:21cnj*y.co*m】
used pretty commonly ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )throughout the history of letter grades in the US.
The first college in ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) the US to use a letter grading system like the ones we use today is Mount Holyoke College. In 1897,they began to use the following grading scale:
A: 95-100%(excellent) B: 85-94%(good) C: 76-84%(fair)
D: 75%(barely passed) E: below 75%(failed)
We can see the inclusion of E instead of F.
Gradually, the letter g ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )rading system became more popular throughout the US. However, many schools decided to drop the E grade and go straight to F.There is no evidence(证据) to really support this, but one possible explanation is that teachers were worried that some students and parents might mistake E for “excellent”.
Why do we have l ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )etter grades Well, part of the reason is that they made grading simpler during a time of great change for schools. As the 20th century began, growing cities and an increase in immigration led to larger school classrooms. Most teachers at that time thought this new letter grading system was an easy, fair and clear way to grade students.
Today, more and more ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )people argue that letter grades don’t fully reflect(反映) student learning。However,as teachers try to improve grading methods, many parents continue to favor the letter grades they got as kids, they are familiar(熟悉) and easy for parents to understand. So while they might not be perfect, the letter grades probably aren’t going away any time soon.

Once there was a kin ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )g who wanted to find the answers to what he considered the three most important questions in life.
When he got close to ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )the hermit’s hut, he ordered his bodyguards to wait behind. 【来源:21cnj*y.co*m】
Afterwards, th ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )e king went outside and repeated his questions to the hermit once more. The most important person is the one you are with, and the most important thing is always to be kind.【出处:21教育名师】

In 1826, a Frenchm ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )an named Niepce needed pictures for his business. But he was not a good artist. So he invented a very simple camera. He put it in a window of his house and took a picture of his garden. That was the first photo.21教育网
The next important ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) date in the history of photography was in 1837. That year, Daguerre, another Frenchman, took a picture of his reading room. He used a new kind of camera in a different way. In his picture you could see everything very clearly, even the smallest thing. This kind of photo was called a Daguerreotype.
Soon, other people ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) began to use Daguerre's way. Travelers brought back wonderful photos from all around the world. People took pictures of famous buildings, cities and mountains. In about 1840, photography was developed. Then photographers could take pictures of people and moving things. That was not simple. The photographers had to carry a lot of film and machines. But this did not stop them. For example, some people in the United States worked very hard. Mathew Brady, a famous American photographer, was one of them. He took many pictures of great people. The pictures were unusual because they were very lifelike(栩栩如生). Photography also became one kind of art at the end of the 19th century. Some photos were not just copies of the real world. They showed some feelings, like other kinds of art.21cnjy.com

When I was little ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ), my mother began selling flowers in Camden Market. She couldn’t leave me at home on my own, so I had to go to the market with her.
To begin with, I ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )didn’t have to do anything. I just sat there, and my Mum told me jokes and stories so I didn’t get bored. When I got older, I gave my mum a hand and I really enjoyed it.
Then, one year, my gra ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ndma gave me a book for Christmas. It was all about making candles and I loved it. I was 14, and I didn’t have to go to the market any more because Mum could leave alone at home. I spent my free time making candles of all shapes and sizes. I made hundreds of them.
One day, my mother ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) was ill so I had to go to the market on my own. I decided to take some candles with me and see if I could sell them. They were sold out in twenty minutes! The next week, my Mum gave me some money to buy some wax (蜡) to make more candles. They sold out really quickly, too.
Nine months late ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )r, we decided to stop selling flowers. My Mum and I couldn’t make enough candles during the week, so some of my school friends started to help us. I paid them one penny for every candle, and we used to sell them for three or four times that. It was fun and my friends worked with me in the market.
At the age o ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )f 22, my uncle lent me some money and I opened my first shop in Portobello Road. Since then, I’ve never looked back, even in difficulties. In the first store, we only sold candles, but now we sell everything from designer furniture to paintings. Oh, and candles, of course.

Extracted from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
Alice was now in a ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )long dark room with doors all round the walls, and she could not see the White Rabbit anywhere.
She tried to open th ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )e doors, but they were all locked. “How will I ever get out again ” she thought sadly. Then she saw a little glass table with three legs, and on the top of it was a very small gold key. Alice quickly took the key and tried it in all the doors, but she couldn’t open any.
Then she saw ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) another door, a door that was only forty centimeters high. The little gold key unlocked this door easily. But Alice couldn’t get through it—she was too big. So she lay on the floor and looked through the open door, into a beautiful garden with green trees and bright flowers.
“I’d like to be ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) out there—not in this dark room. Why can’t I get smaller ” It was already a very strange day, and Alice was beginning to think that anything was possible.
After a while ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )she locked the door again, got up and went back to the glass table. She put the key down and then she saw a little bottle on the table. Round the neck of the bottle was a piece of paper with the words DRINK ME in large letters.
“It can be dangerou ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )s to drink out of strange bottles,” she said. “What will it do to me ” She drank little bit very slowly. The taste was very nice and very soon Alice finished the bottle.
“I think I’m getti ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ng smaller and smaller every minute.” And she was. “And now,” she said happily, “I can get through the little door into that beautiful garden.”
She ran at o ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )nce to the door. Then she remembered that the little gold key was back on the glass table. She ran back to the table for it, but she was now much too small! The key was high above her, on top of the table. She tried very hard to climb up the table leg, but she couldn’t do it.
At last, tire ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )d and sad, she got angry with herself. Soon she saw a little glass box near her on the floor. She opened it, and found a very small cake with the words EAT Me on it.
Nothing could frighten Alice now...

When it come ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )s to the letter grade on your test or homework, you might notice that there is no letter E. Have you ever thought about why that is so 21*cnjy*com
In the A, B, C, D a ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )nd F grading system, the first four letters are typically considered passing grades. An F in this system simply stands for“fail”.The word“fail”happens to start with the letter F, which seems to leave out the letter E. The fact”.Some schools have U grade for“unsatisfactory”,or I grade for “incomplete”.
( http: / / www.21cnjy.com / )
Even with all this sa ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )id, we should also point out that E grade actually has been
used pretty commonly ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) throughout the history of letter grades in the US.21*cnjy*com
The first colleg ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )e in the US to use a letter grading system like the ones we use today is Mount Holyoke College.
Why do we have ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )letter grades Well, part of the reason is that they made grading simpler during a time of great change for schools. As the 20th century began, growing cities and an increase in immigration led to larger school classrooms. Most teachers at that time thought this new letter grading system was an easy, fair and clear way to grade students.
Today, more and more ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) people argue that letter grades don’t fully reflect(反映) student learning。However,as teachers try to improve grading methods, many parents continue to favor the letter grades they got as kids, they are familiar(熟悉) and easy for parents to understand. So while they might not be perfect, the letter grades probably aren’t going away any time soon.
58. what does an F stand for in the A、B、C、D and F grading system

Answer the questions.
Millions of film ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )viewers are excited about the Indian movie Dangal (《摔跤吧爸爸》), not just because it’s a well-produced move. It’s the true story of an Indian father, Mahavir Phogat, who trained his daughters to become the best wrestlers (摔跤选手) of the country when women weren’t even considered (认为) to be able of wrestling.
Phogat’s inspiration t ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )o train his daughters to become wrestlers came from Karnam Mall-eswari, the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal. Phogat thought his girls can lead the country in women’s wrestling if he trained them properly. So he gave up his job and taught them all the tricks he knew from his own experience as a wrestler. The girls, Geeta and Babita, started their training by running in the farm every day.21教育名师原创作品
Since there were ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )no other female wrestlers in the village, the girls had to compete with the boys. However, the villagers laughed at them and told them to go back home for wrestling was a “male” sport.
However, Phogat ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )didn’t listen to any of this. Eventually, he took his girls to the Sports Authority (部门) of India, where they trained under professional coaches.
And the outcome of all this blood and sweat History was made.
In 2010, Geeta Phogat ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in the 55kg freestyle women’s wrestling at the Commonwealth Games. Babita Phogat finished with a silver medal. In 2012, Geeta became the first Indian woman to win a bronze (铜) medal at World Wrestling Championship. Babita won her first gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The Phogat sisters ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )have shown that women can stand out at any sport if they put their heart and hard work into it. They have also proved that wrestling is not just a man’s sport.
This is one of the m ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ain reasons why I think Dangal is going to be one of the most important movies of the year. It’s a message of encouragement to all the women who have been working hard to achieve their dreams.
