About 500 people live in Oymyakon and it is common for this village to go over 200 days with temperatures below(在……以下) 0℃. Oymyakon is in the Yakutia region(地区) in Russia and is known as the coldest human settlement(定居点) on the earth.
The village's lowest temperature was recorded at the Oymyakon weather station and reached 67.7℃ in 1933. It is over 20 degrees warmer than the coldest temperature ever recorded on the earth at ground level, and it reaches 89.2℃ at the Soviet Vostok Station in Antarctica(南极洲) in July, 1983.
