Tim Berners-Lee. If you don't know his name, you've surely used his famous invention—the World Wide Web, a system we use to search for information on the Internet.
On Oct. 29, the Internet officially turned 50 years old. “This birthday must mark the moment when we take on the fight for the Web we want.”
Speaking at the University of California, he pointed out three problems today:Web-criminal(犯罪的)behavior, ad-based clickbait websites(钓鱼网站), and offensive online communication. These problems led Berners-Lee to create the Web Foundation and Contract (契约)for the Web. Both aimed to protect Internet users.
In the contract, he mentioned the need for companies to make sure that everyone had access to the Web, and called for a reduction in offensive material and more personal data privacy. The latter is a hot topic right now. Big companies, like Facebook, have misused users' personal information by sharing it with advertisers.
Despite all of these bad sides, we shouldn't forget about all the benefits the Internet brings.
In this digital age, the Internet connects the world through social media, and cashless payment has become an instant source of information. It can also make a positive difference through activities that push for positive change, education or aid.
One such campaign is Movember. The movement, held every November, encourages men to grow moustaches for the whole month, post pictures online, and donate money. The charity promotes physical health, mental health, and suicide(自杀)prevention for men.
The Internet is also a source of fun. From funny kitten videos on Weibo to your very own TikTok videos, the Internet allows you to share what you create.
As to the Web Foundation, Berners-Lee said, “The Web has become a public square, a library, a doctor's office, a shop, and a school, and it has given marginalized groups a voice.”
“In the next 30 years, if we give up trying to build a better Web...we will have failed in it. We need to come together as a global community.”
12.Why were the Web Foundation and Contract for the Web created
A.To celebrate the Internet's 50th birthday.
B.To build a protected network environment.
C.To increase Internet speeds around the world.
D.To fight online crime.
13.What is the purpose of Movember
A.To encourage men to do charity work.
B.To promote a healthy lifestyle.
C.To support men's health issues.
D.To draw public attention to mental health issues.
14.What do “marginalized groups” in the second-to-last paragraph probably refer to
A.Wealthy people.
B.Old people.
C.People in power.
D.Disadvantaged people.
15.What is the main idea of the article
A.The future of the World Wide Web.
B.The history of the World Wide Web.

D.The problems with the World Wide Web.

In 1989, fresh from high school, I had the difficult task of choosing a career path before the college started in three months. In those days in Pakistan, there were limited choices: becoming a doctor or an engineer, or entering the financial world after getting a business degree. I wasn't interested in engineering, so I was left with medicine and business. I couldn't decide.
My uncle suggested that I do a work placement(实习工作) to experience it for a month in an international company followed by a month in a hospital. After that, I could make a decision. It seemed like a good idea.
I was accepted for a month's placement at a foreign bank in Karachi. I knew how the world of finance functioned, made new friends, and generally enjoyed the work surroundings.
The month passed rapidly, and soon I began working at a leading hospital in Karachi. The experience couldn't have been more different. The hospital had a stressful environment. The days started early (at 7 a.m., compared to 9 a.m. at the bank), and were filled with endless duties and the night calls! This was crazy, working all day, through the night, and again the next day.
I began thinking about my two experiences. The bank had offered a more relaxed atmosphere, better working hours and less stress. The hospital was full of excitement, but the study and training were difficult. It seemed that the business choice was going to win out.
Near the end of my month at the hospital, I was driving home after an especially busy night call. In front of me was a public bus, with college students sitting on the top. As the driver weaved through traffic, I could see the boys shaking from side to side.
Paragraph 1:
Suddenly, a boy fell from the bus.

Paragraph 2:
The next day, when I went to the hospital to see the boy, all his family got up, with grateful smiles on their faces.

16.C 由“which then help them stay organized”可知,这些习惯帮助他们做到有条不紊。
17.E 由“A pen and a notebook are needed to record things.”
18.D 由“They make and keep schedules for the day and week. They make deadlines and set goals.”
19.G 由“Don't put off doing what you should be doing.”
20.B 由“People who live organized lives only keep what they need and what they really want. Have you ever felt like you don't have the space to keep all the things you own Instead of buying a larger house, get rid of some.”

故填was chosen。

第二节
One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
Suddenly, a boy fell from the bus. He hit the road with his face down and rolled over. He lay still in the middle of the road while the bus sped away. None of the cars behind stopped. Thinking that he could die in a matter of minutes, I stopped my car and carefully examined the boy. With the help of some passers-by, I lifted the unconscious boy into the car and raced back to the hospital. After his family were contacted, and he was wheeled into the emergency surgery, I drove home, exhausted but happy.
Paragraph 2:
The next day, when I went to the hospital to see the boy, all his family got up, with grateful smiles on their faces. What a feeling it was to help save the life of another person! I spent the rest of the day in a state of the most fabulous mood I had ever experienced. Driving home that evening, I decided on my career path. Two months of placements could not do what 30 minutes' helping an accident victim had done for me. This experience taught me that at times, the decisions are made for you—and that whatever happens is always for the best.
