(Text 10)
Today I’m going to tell you something about table manners in different countries. I think you already know that people in different countries have different ways of doing things. Something that is rude in one country may be quite polite in another country. For example, in Britain you mustn’t lift your bowl to your mouth when you are having some liquid food. And in Japan you needn’t worry about making a noise when you drink it. It shows that you are enjoying it. But that is considered bad manners in Britain.
In Britain we try not to put our hands on the table at all during a meal. In Mexico, however, guests are expected to keep their hands on the table throughout a meal. But it is in the Arab countries that we really must be careful with our hands. You see, in Arab countries you mustn’t eat with your left hand. This is considered to be very impolite. So, what should you do if you visit another country Well, you needn’t worry. You can ask the native people there to help you or just watch carefully and try to do as they do, not as you do at home.

On Nov. 1st. we had the honour of inviting Mr. Smith to give an English lecture on how to improve our English in our school lecture hall.
Mr. Smith began the lecture with an interesting English story. Then he delivered it in an easily-understood way and everyone listened with great interest. After the lecture, many students thought highly of it, saying that never before had they enjoyed so interesting a lecture.
From his lecture, I have realized that we can improve our English if we put our hearts into it.
【答案】My dad explained he had chosen a campsite that had no phone service. I realized my phone would be useless until we returned home. I would be trapped in the forest for four days with no way to connect myself with the outside world. I went from an unhappy state to anger. However, that couldn’t make my phone receive the signal. I went to bed angrily that first night. But when I awoke in the morning, something had changed.
The next morning, without checking my phone as usual, I fixed my mind on nature around myself. My dad and I hiked through the forest, enjoying nature. We went fishing and swimming. I listened to stories of Dad's life. When the vacation came to an end, I realized I hadn't thought of my phone once. It dawned on me that I needed to value the moments with nature and the important persons in life. With this lesson carried to this day, I regularly pack up the tent and drive until my phone shows words: “No service.”绝密★启用前

Laresce was born with a condition called hypermobility (运动过度) which meant her joints were “bent”. The condition can cause severe joint pain and lead to dislocations (脱臼) .
But rather than feel sorry for herself, she used her misfortune to inspire herself to become Britain’s strongest schoolgirl.
Just two years ago, the condition left Laresce in so much pain that she couldn’t even take part in sports. But now she has six British and World Champion powerlifting records. It’s an amazing achievement.
Laresce’s trainer Tania George said her condition is the secret to her success. “She has more flexibility (灵活性) in her back than most people which gives her the technique of bending her back strongly and safely. Most powerlifters would kill to try to bend their backs like Laresce. She has perfected the technique to lift heavy weights,” Tania said.
“I used to suffer a lot of pain from my hypermobility. I remember coming home from school with pains in my knees, joints and hips. It would stop me doing normal things at school. The pain would be so much that some nights I couldn’t sleep at all and I just couldn’t face going to school like that. And after each dislocation, I had to have six months of treatment to recover,” said Laresce.
However, since taking up the sport of powerlifting 18 months ago she is now effectively cured. “Really enjoyed the feeling of power I got and the excitement of people encouraging me to do my very best,” she said.
I’ve made lots of friends. It’s an incredible feeling when everyone’s cheering me on. It’s the support of other people that makes the difference to winning. Becoming a champion was a big surprise-I just started off for fun and wasn’t expecting anything. So to win six titles over just a few months was amazing.

“Two weekends ago I sat down and read the New York Times. I haven’t done that in maybe thirty years,” says Howard Turman, OrCam user, in this CNN Tech video. Turman, who is legally blind, started losing his vision when he was a child. The OrCam smart glasses for blind people do not fix his sight but they do “the next best thing”. The OrCam uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to read text and pass on the message to the user by a mini earpiece. Thanks to the device, Howard was able to enjoy the independence of reading the newspaper on his own.
Amnon Shashua, co-founder of OrCam, explains that reading text, recognizing faces and products are just the beginning of the OrCam. “Where we want to get is completely visual understanding at the level of human perception (感知), such as if you are confused about where you are, you can start to understand what is around you. ”
OrCam has received many requests from people all over the world wanting the device in their language. At present, the device works in English, Hebrew, German, French, and Spanish. The OrCam team is working very hard to add more languages, and there are plans for new additions in the near future. Since the first device, new features have been added as well. For example, the pause (暂停) feature allows users to pause the reading whenever they would like.
Unlike other devices, the OrCam is portable. Turman says that the OrCam smart glasses for the blind give him a sense of normalcy (常态) and he is very excited about them. “Picture a kid the first time he got his favorite toy. That is just the best thing that has happened to me in a long time”, says Turman. OrCam’s goal is to make the device accessible (可使用的) to as many people as possible and help people who are visually damaged regain their independence.
28. What does OrCam help Howard Turman to do
A. Hear what is happening around. B. Have his sight fixed.
C. Read newspapers. D. Find his way.
29. Why is Howard Turman mentioned in the text
A. He has benefited from OrCam. B. He was the first to use OrCam.
C. He lost his eyesight many years ago. D. He advises more people to use OrCam.
30. What can we infer from the third paragraph
A. OrCam is in great demand. B. OrCam can easily break down.
C. OrCam doesn’t work well now. D. OrCam’s main problem is its use of languages.
31. What could be the best title for the text
A. An excited OrCam user B. Smart glasses for the blind
C. Newspaper reading for the blind D. Ways to help the blind become independent

I've worked as a social media influencer for four years and have experienced the many positive aspects of this industry. My travels inspired an American woman to take her first solo(独自的)trip to the Middle East, which is a valuable experience. But I’ve also seen the more negative aspects, such as the emotional stress that comes from creating content with the goal of getting as many people as possible to double-tap or like our photos.
So when Instagram announced that it is beginning to test removing likes from the platform, my immediate reaction was a positive one.
Similar to the experience of the average Instagram user, viewing likes creates an incredible point of comparison among influencers. It shifts the focus away from providing value to constantly comparing yourself to other creators. The removal of likes pushes influencers to create valuable content and start meaningful conversations with their followers rather than post content only for the purpose of generating likes. It is a shift in a positive direction and an answer to the call for social platforms to take responsibility for the impact their apps have on users' mental health.
If Instagram does away with likes altogether, the way brands will partner with influencers will also likely change. The influencer marketing industry is still fairly new and most brands make quick judgments using only the ratio(比率)of the number of followers to the number of likes without looking at much else. If like counts are no longer visible, brands will need to take a deeper dive into a creators content and into the quality of the conversations they are having with their audience. This is the true test of an influencer's impact and ultimately, of the return on investment a brand can expect. This change will force brands to get smarter.
Instagram's test to explore removing likes reflects a larger cultural call for connection, community and authenticity online. I believe it would be a welcome change that all users could appreciate.
32.What is the example of an American woman used to prove
A.The advantage of traveling.
B.The emotional stress of getting likes.
C.The favorable impact of an influencer.
D.The widespread use of modern technology.
33.What can removing likes lead influencers to do
A.Switch to other social platforms.
B.Focus on the quality of their content.
C.Compare themselves with average users.
D.Stop communicating with their followers.
34.What does the author think of brands choosing partners based on the number of likes
A.It's risky. B.It's confusing.
C.It's smart. D.It's inconvenient.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Does removing Instagram likes affect our health
B.How can influencers get more Instagram likes
C.Should Instagram get rid of likes for good
D.Why do Instagram infuencers need likes

Study shows that wearing masks outdoors can protect against more than Covid-19 for people who suffer from seasonal allergies. Protection varies mask to mask, depending on the fit and, for cloth masks, the weave of the fabric. And unless you wear a mask at all times, you may still be affected by indoor dust or other things carried through open windows. 36.
● Protect your eyes. 37. It helps block allergens like tree pollen from making direct contact with eyes.
● Wash and change your mask frequently. “The last thing you want is allergen getting trapped in it,” Dr. Parikh, an allergist and immunologist at N.Y.U. Langone Health said. She recommends patients change their clothes when they get home and shower before sleep, to ensure that pollen doesn't stick to their skin, and wash reusable masks frequently. 38.
● Find a mask that doesn’t make your skin painful. Choosing the right mask for an allergy-prone wearer can also be important. People with sensitive skin may react to dyes in some fabric masks and should use perfume-free detergents. 39. “My allergy sufferers have very sensitive skin because the same critters that make them sneeze or cough also can irritate their skin,” Dr. Parikh said.
● 40. “If people are continuing to have symptoms that interfere with normal activity — if they’re missing work, missing school, their sleep is disrupted at night — see a physician,” Dr. Lang, an allergist at Cleveland Clinic, said. “There are other ways we can help. You shouldn’t be suffering needlessly.”
A.Wear glasses or sunglasses when you’re outside.
B.Talk to a doctor if your allergy symptoms are severe.
C.There are more tips to reduce your symptoms in allergy seasons.
D.Wearing a mask also makes the air through our nose much warmer.
E. Or choose a medical grade mask which is less likely to irritate skin.
F. Give up our masks if we head into another pandemic season in the future.
G. The Center for Disease Control recommends washing a cloth mask after each use.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
A couple of months before I started high school, my parents gave me the greatest gift any teenage boy would ask for: a cellphone. I lived on that phone all summer. I always texted my friends, even at night. And I paid no attention to the people and things around myself. Being connected to the Internet was more important than being present.
So, you can imagine my displeasure when I learned what my dad had planned for our family vacation that year. It was not the Disneyland trip or beach vacation that I had been hoping for.“This year,” my dad said, “we’ll be doing something special, something I used to do with my dad when I was a kid. We’re going camping in the forest!”
His excitement was met with a disappointed sigh (失望的叹息),which was my communication style at that age. But he had made the decision and would not change his mind. I comforted myself by telling myself that it was still a vacation. I remained uninfluenced when they were busy preparing for the vacation.
My mind was on my phone, the texts flying back and forth. I focused on the screen in my hands so much that the first time I looked up was when we drove across a bridge on the trip to our campsite.
I looked out of the window and saw a fast-moving river. The air blowing into the car from the open windows was hot and smelt of trees. But that didn't matter to me. The reason why I had looked up was for something far more serious and annoying. My phone no longer had service. The signal was weak. During the last hour of the drive, there was no signal at all.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式作答。
My dad explained he had chosen a campsite that had no phone service.
