In February, before the outbreak of Covid-19, I sold my old-style car. I thought it wouldn't be a big deal: I live in London within walking distance of three subway stations and countless bus stops. I own a bike;there are taxis and supermarket delivery services, and I joined a car-share program, all of which can save me a big sum of money to fund my future green transport.
Then the lockdown (封锁) happened and being car-free suddenly felt like a big deal. I couldn't get a supermarket delivery. I couldn't take my broken garden chairs to the recycling center. And a few days into lockdown, somebody stole my bike!
When the lockdown stopped, it just got worse. I was eager to go to the countryside or beach, but taking public transport or a taxi felt like too much of a risk. The car-share program turned out to be unbelievably difficult to deal with—every area has its own rules about where you can and can't park, and taking a car-share vehicle beyond the city is impossible. And renting a car is clearly expensive and time-consuming.
So last month I did a U-turn. I felt guilty but also a sense of satisfaction: I had tried, but the pandemic (疫情) beat me. Most of all, I got freedom, sitting behind the wheel (方向盘) and getting to wherever I want. Don't get me wrong. I still expect to travel without creating greenhouse gases and pollution. But life in a pandemic has drawn attention to some of the disadvantages of public transport, such as time and money wasted on the road to offices and the risk of Covid-19. It has also stressed our need to review our relationship with the environment. Problems with public transport have meant that the ownership and use of a car has become quite a useful thing.
24. Why did the author sell his car in the first paragraph?
A. His car was too old to drive.
B. He tried to lead a greener life.
C. He felt a car was no longer useful.
D. He wanted to get a big sum of money.
25. What did the author probably mean by "I did a U-turn" in paragraph 4?
A. I bought a new car. B. I made a tough decision.
C. I broke the lockdown rules. D. I chose another path to life.
26. What's the author's attitude toward driving a car in the last paragraph?
A. doubtful B. concerned C. positive D. uncertain
27. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. A greener choice in life
B. Back behind the wheel
C. How to survive the lockdown
D. The disadvantages of public transport
C
An early morning winter storm had brought several inches of snow to my small town in the mountains. Schools were canceled, roads were dangerous and all I wanted to do was to stay in bed. Still, I knew I had to get the day started so I put on warm clothes and walked outside. The snow got all over my shoes. The cold wind dried my lips and my eyes. My 47-year-old back ached in anticipation (预想) of the shoveling (铲雪) I would have to do if the snow didn't stop soon.
Yet, when I looked out on the white blanket that covered the ground, I couldn't help but smile a bit. It was so beautiful. It softened the bare trees and hid the dead grass. In the distance I could hear the sound of the snowplow on the road, the barking of a happy dog and the laughter of children playing outside, enjoying their day off from school.
The sweet music of that laughter brought back a hundred memories of winters past. I remembered catching snowflakes (雪花) on my tongue, building snowmen, making snow angles, running down hills and always losing snowball fights with first my brothers and then my own children. Standing there in that warm coat of memories made the wind a little less cold and my back a little less sore. I turned up my head, stuck out my tongue and for the first time in years caught a snowflake on it. It tasted so fresh and clean. It tasted like youth, like joy and like love.
May you always feel young in spirit, no matter how old or achy your body may be. May you always delight in the simple joys of life. May you always share your happiness with the hearts of children. And may you always give your love, your light, your laughter and your warmth to others even on the coldest days.
28. What was the author's first reaction when he knew it snowed heavily?
A. He was upset. B. He was happy.
C. He was thankful. D. He was moved.
29. From the underlined sentence in Paragraph l, we can know that ______ .
A. my back ached because of the cold weather.
B. I didn't want to start my day on such a snowy day.
C. my back would ache upon thinking of cleaning up the snow.
D. the snow didn't stop and I felt too cold.
30. From which senses did the author describe the joy of having snow?
A. Taste and smell. B. Sight and smell.
C. Smell, hearing and taste. D. Sight, hearing and taste.
31. What does the author mainly want to tell us with this article?
A. Appreciate every snowstorm you spend with your family.
B. Snow brings both fun and trouble.
C. Memories can change our opinion.
D. We should stay young at heart.

In recent years computer scientists have come up with several different ways of creating false videos of people using Artificial Intelligence (AI). These videos are usually called "deepfakes". Some deepfakes work by putting the face of one person onto a different person in a video. Others work by taking an existing video of a person and changing it so that the person says or does something they didn't say or do.
At first, creating deepfakes was complex. It required special knowledge, hundreds of pictures of the person who was being faked, and lots of time. Now it's much simpler. There are websites and apps that allow almost anyone to create deepfakes. An app recently came out which allowed users to put their faces into famous movie scenes. The process takes about eight seconds, requires one picture, and can be done on a mobile phone. One group of computer scientists created a program that allowed them to edit the words coming out of someone's mouth in a video just like you might edit a document on the computer.
However, the popularity of deepfakes may cause anxieties. It's one thing to change the faces of famous actors. But what happens if someone puts out a fake video of a politician, for example, making it look like he broke the law There's also the problem of the time it takes to figure out that something is fake. Even if a video is proven to be fake, it could be too late. Millions of people might have already seen and believed it. On the other hand, what happens if a video is actually real, but people don't trust it because they're told it's a deepfake?
Many deepfakes are so good that only another AI system can tell that they're fake. Experts are working hard to create new AI tools that can identify faked videos. Many people are confident that people can defeat deepfakes soon. However, personally, it is very challenging because this technology has always fallen behind the deepfakes.
32. What does the author focus on in the first paragraph?
A. The way deepfakes work.
B. The way to create false videos.
C. The way deepfakes are named.
D. The way to use Artificial Intelligence.
33. How does the author develop the third paragraph?
A. By making comments. B. By following time order.
C. By providing examples. D. By explaining the difference.
34. What is the author's attitude towards developing AI tools to identify deepfakes?
A. Positive. B. Indifferent. C. Critical. D. Worried.
35. What's the author's main purpose in writing the text?
A. To stress technology development.
B. To introduce deepfakes and the effects.
C. To recommend a new application.
D. To explain the importance of deepfakes.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Have you ever been bored and decided to check social media, only to find out that your best friend is at Disneyland, that one of your classmates is eating delicious pizza at your favorite pizza store, and that one of your soccer teammates is climbing the Eiffel Tower in Paris Have you ever had that feeling that others are experiencing things and enjoying life more than you are Oh, man! You're missing out! 36 Researchers call that feeling the fear of missing out or FoMO.
37 It's so easy today to see what your friends are doing from the social media. Unluckily, we only have so much time in the day and only so much money to spend on food or entertainment. It would be impossible for us to enjoy all the same activities we see others take part in on social media.
Rather than realizing this basic truth, though, we usually let FoMO lead us to compare our lives with those of others on social media. 38 Why We know all the sides of our lives—both good and bad, but all we see on social media are the picture—perfect moments others share.
39 FoMO makes us check social media more frequently, leading to addiction and a negative cycle that can be hard to break. Researchers have found that social media and FoMO can cause serious negative results, including feeling of depression, loneliness and boredom.
40 Researchers advise that we stop looking to social media for happiness. Instead, we should focus our attention on our real lives, including the people around us and all the things we're grateful for.
A. Have you ever experienced FoMO?
B. At least that's what you might think.
C. This certainly leaves us feeling dissatisfied.
D. So how do we break the cycle and avoid FoMO?
E. Over 75% of young people report feeling FoMO from time to time.
F. As famous Theodore Roosevelt said, "Comparison is the thief of joy".
G. If you let FoMO control you, the only thing you'll really be missing out on is your own life.

第二节 书面表达(满分25分)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I'm writing to apply to be a volunteer for Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
I'm convinced that I'm well qualified for the position. First, I have a good command of oral English, which enables me to communicate with others freely. What's more, I have some relevant work experience, working as a volunteer for years at international football and basketball games. I regard it a great opportunity and a privilege to introduce China to foreign friends in my own way.
Any favorable consideration of my application would be highly appreciated. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
