Young people’s career expectations have become more concentrated in fewer occupations (职业) over the past two decades though social media and technologies like Artificial Intelligence(AI) are developing rapidly, according to a report from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Traditional occupations from the 19th and 20th centuries, such as lawyers and police officers, continue to trap (使陷入) the imaginations of young people around the world as they did nearly 20 years ago.
The report, based on a latest survey of the 15-year-olds in 41 countries, said the career expectations of youngsters may be “antiquated and unrealistic”. Nearly half of young people around the world wish to work in just 10 of the most common professions. The surveys show that too many teenagers are ignoring, or don’t know, new types of jobs that are coming up, particularly as a result of digitalization (数字化). It is a concern that more young people than before appear to be picking their dream job from a small list of the most popular, traditional occupations, like teachers, lawyers or business managers.
The report found that among boys and girls who perform similarly in science, boys are more likely to expect to work in science and engineering. The top 10 occupations preferred by boys have changed very little since 2000—but girls are now more likely to want to be architects, police officers, and designers rather than hairdressers or writers.
The report also found a broader range of career expectations in countries with strong and firm occupational training for teenagers. For example, in Germany teenagers show a much wider range of career interests that better reflect patterns of labour market demands. More than a third of students in the UK report a lack of career advice at schools and colleges. Young people’s wishes are set as young as age seven, and do not change enough over time to meet demands.

(2021·长春高二检测)
Please take a few seconds and think of your personal biggest goal. Imagine telling someone you meet today what you’re going to do. Imagine their congratulations and their high image of you. Doesn’t it feel good to say it out loud Don’t you feel one step closer already Well, bad news: you should have kept your mouth shut, because that good feeling will make you less likely to do it.
Any time you have a goal, there is some work that needs to be done to achieve it. Ideally, you would not be satisfied until you’d actually done the work. But when you tell someone your goal and he acknowledges (认可) it, psychologists have found it’s called a “social reality”. The mind is kind of tricked into feeling that it’s already done. And then, because you’ve felt that satisfaction, you’re less motivated to do the actual hard work necessary. This goes against the traditional wisdom that we should tell our friends our goals, right
In 1982, Peter Gollwitzer, a Professor of Psychology, wrote a whole book about this. And in 2009, he did some new tests that were published. It goes like this: 163 people across four separate tests—everyone wrote down their personal goal. Then half of them announced their commitment (许诺) to this goal to the room, and half didn’t. Then everyone was given 45 minutes of work that would directly lead them towards their goal, but they were told that they could stop at any time. Now those who kept their mouths shut worked the entire 45 minutes on average, and when asked afterwards, said they felt they had a long way to go to achieve their goal. But those who had announced it quit after only 33 minutes on average, and when asked afterwards, said that they felt much closer to achieving their goal.

30. How did Peter Gollwitzer prove his idea about people’s goal
A. By giving figures.
B. By giving examples.
C. By making a survey.
D. By making comparison tests.
31. What will probably happen if you tell your friends your goal
A. You will be more confident.
B. You will not gain satisfaction.
C. You are less likely to realize it.
D. You’ll be much more motivated.

People are being tricked into Facebook with the promise of a fun, free service without realizing they’re paying for it by giving up loads of personal information.
Most Facebook users don’t realize this is happening. Even if they know what the company is up to, they still have no idea what they’re paying for Facebook because people don’t really know what their personal data is worth.
The biggest problem, however, is that the company keeps changing the rules. Early on, you could keep everything private. That was the great thing about Facebook—you could create your own little private network. Last year, the company changed its privacy rules so that many things—your city, your photo, your friends’ names—were set, by default (默认), to be shared with everyone on the Internet.
According to Facebook’s vice-president Elliot Schrage, the company is simply making changes to improve its service, and if people don’t share information. They have a “less satisfying experience. ”
Some critics think this is more about Facebook looking to make more money. Its original business model, which involved selling ads and putting them at the side of the page, totally failed. Who wants to look at ads when they’re online connecting with their friends
The privacy issue has already landed Facebook in hot water in Washington. In April, Senator Charles Schumer called on Facebook to change its privacy policy. He also urged the Federal Trade Commission to set guidelines for social networking sites. “I think the senator rightly communicated that we had not been clear about what the new products were and how people could choose to use them or not to use them, ” Schrage admits.
I suspect that whatever Facebook has done so far to invade our privacy, it’s only the beginning, which is why I’m considering cancelling my account. Facebook is a handy site, but I’m upset by the idea that my information is in the hands of people I don’t know. That’s too high a price to pay.
【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文, 介绍了Facebook通过免费的、有趣的服务吸引着众人, 但为此人们付出了沉重的代价——泄露了大量的个人信息。

33. What does the author say about most Facebook users

【解析】选B。细节理解题。根据第二段第一句“Most Facebook users don’t realize this is happening. ”(大多数Facebook用户并没有意识到发生了什么)该句中的代词this指代第一段提到的内容——在人们使用Facebook的同时Facebook也在泄露着他们的个人信息并以此牟利, 但他们不知道发生了什么。故正确答案为B。
34. Why does Facebook make changes to its rules according to Elliot Schrage
A. To provide better service to its users.
B. To obey the Federal guidelines.
C. To improve its users’ connection.
D. To expand its business.
【解析】选A。细节理解题。根据第四段“According to Facebook’s vice-president Elliot Schrage, the company is simply making changes to improve its service, ”可知, 据Facebook副总裁埃利奥特·施拉格称, 该公司只是在做一些改变, 以改善其服务, 故正确答案为A。

Dear Jack,
How’s everything going I really feel worried about you when I heard that you were addicted to smartphone games.
You used to do well in your lessons and take an active part in the activities at school. But now you are so crazy about smartphone games that you have no interest in your schoolwork and don’t listen to teachers as carefully as before in class. Also, you can’t hand in your homework on time. Perhaps playing smartphone games can make you feel relaxed, but if you spend too much time on it, you will have less time to study. And it may do harm to your health. For example, it can hurt your eyes and neck. I hope you should achieve a balance between your schoolwork and your hobbies. Why not join in some outdoor activities when you feel bored As your friend, I’ll be glad to share your happiness and sadness.
Looking forward to your quick reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

“If mum finds out that I’m going to the beach, I’ll be in big trouble. ” I said to myself softly in a low voice.
I went downstairs slowly and tried to walk casually into the kitchen. As I was walking towards the back door, mum asked without looking up from her “dish-washing”, “Where are you going ” I answered back without hesitation, “I am going to the garden to play. ” After I got out of the kitchen, I breathed a sign of relief. My plan had worked out fine so far. I climbed the fence and jumped onto the muddy field next to my house and started running towards the bus stop at top speed.
After half an hour I was at the beach scanning the crowd for my friends, Jimmy and Bobby. Two young men were racing in the canoes (独木舟). After a while, I saw them near a coconut tree. I ran towards them and got into my swimming trunk (游泳裤). For about an hour, we played volleyball happily.
Suddenly, Bobby hit the ball too hard and the ball fell into the sea. Just as Bobby was going to pick up the ball, the tide came in and carried the ball further and further away from the shore. I wanted to show off my swimming skills so I declared to help get the ball for them.
I dived into the water and started swimming at a steady pace. After swimming for about ten minutes, I became tired but when I saw that the ball was only a few feet away from me, I put in an extra burst of speed. However, just as I was going to get the ball, a very strong current swept the ball further away from me. At that moment, a string of weed(海草)tangled (缠绕) up with my feet and I could not swim properly.
I struggled to keep afloat but it was no use. “If I had listened to my parents, this would never have happened, ” I thought silently.
注意: 续写词数应为150左右。
Finally, after struggling for a minute or two, I still got pulled underwater.

Finally, after struggling for a minute or two, I still got pulled underwater. I told myself I should never give up. Then I pulled the weed again with great efforts. The weed finally broke. I swam back to the surface to take a deep breath. I saw two young men in canoes, racing each other. I was exhausted and shouted for help. The two men saw me and raced towards me. By the time they reached me, I had been already unconscious.
When I woke up, I was in an empty room lying on a bed. It was not until a doctor came into the room that I realized that I was in a hospital. Jimmy and Bobby told me the two young men brought me to the shore and sent me to the hospital. After a few minutes, my parents with half angry and half worried faces walked in. My parents scolded me for running out of the house secretly but were also glad that I was not seriously injured. I will never forget that terrifying experience. Neither will I ever want to show off again.
概要写作
(2021·杭州高二检测)
  阅读下面短文, 根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Teens are shopping like their parents during the back-to-school season. That is putting a lot of stress on retailers (零售商). They must change the way they market to them. Gone is the spending craziness that starts weeks before school bells ring. More teens are careful about spending money. It is a habit picked up from their downturn (经济低迷)-troubled parents.
Today’s kids recycle more clothes from the last school year. Kids mix and match the old with the new. They get different looks. They also shop year-round for things they need. It means they are spending less money this time of year. They are less likely to get anything that is not on sale when they do buy. And the number of kids who will reuse last year’s items rose to 39 percent. That goes up from 26 percent between 2011 and 2018. Families with school-age kids will most likely spend an average of $630. 36 this year. It is down 6 percent from last year. The results have shown drops for four out of the past seven years.
Teens’ behavior is similar to how their parents learned to shop since 2008. That was when retailers pushed discounts. The idea was to get people to buy during the downturn. It helped draw shoppers. But it also got them to love deals. The change made it hard for stores to make money. That is because the discounts cut into the amount of money they made.
The shift is changing how stores market to teens. Normally stores’ promotions would end around Labor Day. Now they are making them go through September. They are also pulling together complete outfits from different brands in stores. It makes it easier for teens to buy different looks. And they are using social media campaigns to be more easily seen by teens. Teens no longer want to look exactly like their friends. They want to personalize their looks. That behavior makes it hard for retailers to influence specific looks. Retailers have to do more marketing to attract teens.

28. What do the underlined words “social reality” in Paragraph 2 mean
A. Completion of the goal.
B. Necessary hard work.
C. People’s acknowledgement.
D. A sense of satisfaction.
29. What does Peter Gollwitzer try to tell us
A. Writing down the goal is very helpful.
B. Achieving personal goal needs more time.
C. Keeping the goal secret makes people work harder.
D. Making the goal public makes people less satisfied.

32. What do we learn about Facebook from the first paragraph
A. It is a website that sends messages to users who want to get married.
B. It earns money by putting on advertisements.
C. It makes money by selling its users’ personal data.
D. It provides loads of information to its users.
33. What does the author say about most Facebook users
A. They are unwilling to give up their personal information.
B. They don’t know their personal data enriches Facebook.
C. They don’t identify themselves when using the website.
D. They care very little about their personal information.
