The Lost and Found Office in New York City
Welcome to the New York City Lost and Found Office. People
often lose things when they’re travelling or when they’re in a hurry. They leave things on planes, on trains, on buses and in taxis. That’s why there are lost and found offices at airports and stations.

of people come here every day. They are looking for their phones,
cameras, watches, computers and many other things. We usually
have about two thousand mobile phones and one thousand cameras.

本句中“is talking” 为现在进行时结构。现在进行时（am/is/are + V-ing）表示目前正在进行或发生的动作，有时也可表示现阶段正在进行时的动作。

talk to... 与……谈话
辨析talk about, talk to, talk with
talk about 后接sb./sth. 意为“谈论”，侧重谈话的内容。
talk to 后接sb. 意为“与……谈话”，侧重一方对另一方讲话，是单向的谈话。
talk with 后接sb. 意为“与……交流”，侧重双方交流，是双向的交流。

“when”在此作连词，意为“当……时候”，引导时间状语从句。

hurry还可作动词，意为“匆忙；急忙”。用法如下：
① hurry to+ 地点名词 匆忙赶往某地
②hurry up 赶快； 快点
③hurry to do sth. 匆忙做某事

leave 在此作及物动词，意为“丢下；遗忘”。 常用结构:

leave 的其他用法：

②leave n. 假期 ask sb. for a day’s leave 向某人请一天的假
辨析 leave & forget
leave 表示遗忘某物时，常指把某物遗忘在某地，其后经常接地点状语。
forget 表示遗忘某物时，常指头脑中记不起某物或某事。一般不接地点状语。
e.g. I leave my schoolbag at school.
e.g. I forget my father’s birthday.

That’s why... 句型中，why引导表语从句。从句表述的是某一动作造成的结果。
e.g. Tom likes staying up late. That’s why he is always late for school.
That’s because... 那是因为…… 从句表述的是某动作产生的原因
5. Hundreds of people come here every day. (教材P4)
hundreds of 表示“好几百，许许多多”, 相当于 lots of,是一个概数, 后面跟着的名词和hundred都要用复数形式, 而 hundred 这个词本身是一个确数,表示“一百”。当hundred之前有一个确切的基数词修饰的时候, 它要使用单数形式。
e.g. two hundred students 两百名学生
