阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Many people do not have enough time to play a team sport, so instead they have started going running. In the past, jogging in the street was seen as a bit silly and not very cool. But things are changing. Nowadays, lots of people go out running in their spare time. Some people go to lose weight while others go simply to keep fit. The shops are now full of equipment, clothing and gadgets for runners. Many runners also have special watches which can track their route and tell them their speed. Even at 4:30 in the morning you sometimes see runners in the street. And scientists say that along with cycling and swimming, running is a very good way to keep fit.
Unfortunately, running is often quite unpopular among young people at school. In some schools when it rains and it's too wet to play football or hockey, children have to do cross country running instead. However, now that running has become more fashionable, hopefully more young people will take it up. But, of course, trends (趋势) change all the time, so let's hope that running is here to stay.
Every year in April, the London Marathon takes place. The race covers a fantastic route in which runners pass lots of famous sites like The London Eye and Big Ben. People come from all over the world to run in the London Marathon. Interestingly, marathon running used to be seen as an extreme sport, but now even people who are very unfit take part in marathons every year! Not that marathons have got easier but that people have become more interested in running. After the marathon every year the streets suddenly become full of runners. People find it so inspiring that they want to try it themselves. All you need is a bit of determination, so what are you waiting for?
1.What does the author think of people running in the early morning
A.They are just to keep pace with a kind of fashion.
B.They may hope to run faster than the others.
C.They must be very crazy about such an activity.
D.They want to show off the coolest equipment.
2.What makes the author concerned is that ________.
A.running will become out of date someday
B.students pay little attention to running
C.students are only into playing football or hockey
D.schools don't establish the rules of competitions
3.What can you see if you take part in the London Marathon
A.You will see London is the most fantastic city.
B.You will be attracted by the energetic London runners.
C.You will see athletes from many other countries.
D.You will be allowed to visit the famous sites for free.

Some people don't mind being fat. Other people can keep slim without any effort. But a lot of people do put on too much weight and don't like it. The question is: what can they do about it Some believe exercise can be helpful. But the trouble is that it only makes you want to eat more. You might sweat off (因出汗而减轻) a couple of pounds by playing tennis or climbing the mountain, but you put it all back on again with a big steak or bread and jam.
A helpful way is food-choosing. But what sort of food should you choose Some believe that the less they eat, the slimmer they will be. They don't eat anything until they become weak with hunger. Some stick to milk and bananas. You'll find you need a lot of bananas, and unless you live where they grow, they aren't cheap. Another theory says that if you eat things like hard-boiled eggs, apples with their skins on, and lean meat which are hard for your stomach to digest, the more you eat, the thinner you get. This is because you use up the fat in your body to get the energy to digest the food.
For most of us these methods are too extreme (极端的). The simplest way is just to cut down on the carbohydrates; that means not eating bread, potatoes, cakes, sugar, rice, and so on and eating anything else you like. It's straightforward and often quite effective.
Still others like to be more scientific. They are calorie counters. They get a table which tells them that, for example, 100 grams of roast leg of lamb give you 330 calories and a 50-gram helping (一份食物) of Yorkshire pudding gives you 130 calories.
4.The practical method suggested in this passage means “________”.
A.sticking to bananas
B.not eating many carbohydrates
C.eating things that are hard to digest
D.eating as little as possible
5.A calorie is a unit of ________.
A.weight B.power
C.electricity D.heat
6.Which of the following do you think is the best title of the passage
A.Various Ways of Losing Weight
B.Don't Eat Too Much
C.Ways to Keep Fit
D.Food and Health
C
According to a recent report, about 15% of the people in the UK are members of gyms. But are they more likely to be fit
A study found that gym members were 14 times more active than people who didn't belong to any health club. Gym members did six hours more exercise a week, and this activity did make them fitter than non-gym members. They also spent less time sitting down every day than non-gym members. The results were the same for men and women.
The study included 405 people between the ages of 30 and 64, and the main characteristics of those who were gym members were the same as those who were not. “But gym members did more training than non-gym members,” said the lead author, Elizabeth Schroeder of the University of Illinois.
While it might seem clear that gym members exercise more and are healthier than non-gym members, Schroeder says this has not been directly shown before. However, the study is only designed to show a tie between gym membership and more exercise. It may be that active people like to join gyms. In the study, people who exercised as much as gym members were also in good health.
You can get the same benefits wherever you exercise. This study shows a gym membership can make you do more exercise, but other research shows that exercising outside has other help. Outdoor activity can make you feel happy about life—especially if you run through a forest.
Outdoor exercise is also more interesting than going to the gym. The first five minutes of outdoor exercise is especially helpful in making people feel good. But Schroeder says that a gym may also encourage greater exercise because it can be social and fun.
7.What did the new study find out
A.Gym members had healthier eating habits.
B.There were fewer women gym members than men.
C.Gym members were more active than non-gym members.
D.Gym members did at least eight hours of exercise a week.
8.In the study, researchers studied ________.
A.30 gym members and 64 non-gym members
B.people from different age group
C.some sports lovers
D.405 people who exercise outdoors
9.What does the word “benefits” in Paragraph 5 probably mean
A.Help. B.Need.
C.Advice. D.Injury.
10.Which of the following statements will Elizabeth Schroeder agree with
A.Women should do more gym exercise.
B.We should be careful with outdoor training.
C.Outdoor exercise is better than gym exercise.
D.It is easier to keep exercising if you go to the gym.

Hearing the words, Michelle went to her bedroom and took all the coins from her little money box. After counting the coins three times, she slipped out of the back door and made her way to the_drug_store 6 blocks away ...
She waited for a long time before the pharmacist (药剂师) turned around and asked her, “And what do you want?”
“Well, it's about my brother,” Michelle answered, “he's really really sick. And I want to buy a miracle.”
“I beg your pardon?” said the pharmacist.
“His name is Jack. And he has something very bad growing inside his body. And my daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost?”
“We don't sell miracles here, little_girl. I am sorry. But I can't help you.” The pharmacist said.
“Listen, I have the money to pay for it.” With these words, Michelle poured out all the coins from her pocket.
At this time, a well-dressed_man behind Michelle stooped down and asked the little girl, “I am selling the miracle you want. Tell me how much money you have.”
“One_dollar_and_eleven_cents.” Michelle answered in a_low_voice,_“That's all the money I have. But I can get some more if I need to.”

Dear Harry,
I am glad to receive your letter. Now I'm writing to tell you about my favorite sports.
Of all the sports, I like table tennis best. I think playing table tennis is beneficial to both physical and mental health, as it not only helps to build up my strength and confidence but also brings pleasure to my life. What's more, it makes me more energetic and effective in my study. I began to show great interest in it at the age of seven. Now I'm on the school table tennis team. To improve my skills, I practice playing table tennis with my teammates and friends every weekend after finishing our homework.
By the way, I'm curious about your sports hobby. Would you please tell me about it Looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
【故事续写】
Paragraph 1:
Holding the man's hand firmly, Michelle took him home. The little_girl walked in such a hurry that she even forgot to introduce herself to the man. Her parents were too surprised to believe their eyes. That well-dressed_man turned out to be a surgeon, specializing in neural surgery. Later, the little_brother was taken away. The operation was completed with payment of one_dollar_and_eleven_cents. And it wasn't long before Jack was home again and doing well. Michelle was more than happy. Now she knew the_exact_price of a miracle:_one dollar and eleven cents, plus the faith of a little child.
Paragraph 2:
When asked why he chose to help the family, the man detailed, “When I was young myself, I was once in the same situation as the little baby. The little girl reminded me of my own sister. It was she who saved my life. Deeply impressed by her innocence, I was determined to help the family out of trouble. It doesn't matter how much money she actually had with her; what matters is her faith, a faith that miracles do exist.”
