Discuss with your partner about the achievements of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and the relationship with the other two. Try to tell out what you know about them after reading the passage.
Summary: What have you learnt from this passage
We have learnt three great composers of the eighteenth century. Haydn is known as “the father of the symphony”. He changed the symphony into a long piece for a large orchestra.
Mozart was possibly the greatest musical genius of all time. He only lived 35 years and he composed more than 600 pieces of music.
Beethoven was highly thought of by Mozart. He became very popular in the Austrian capital and stayed there for the rest of his life. He became deaf during the last years of his life, but he continued composing.

1905年,生于澳门一个贫苦船工的家庭。
1918年考入岭南大学附中学习小提琴,参加乐队并担任小提琴、单簧管演奏员,还担任指挥。
1926年先后就读于北京大学音乐传习所、国立艺术专科学校音乐系,选修小提琴。
1931年考入巴黎国立音乐学院肖拉·康托鲁姆作曲班。
1935年毕业回国,积极投入抗战歌曲创作和救亡音乐活动,创作大量群众歌曲,并为进步电影《壮志凌云》、《青年进行曲》、及话剧《复活》、《大雷雨》等作曲。
1938年任延安鲁迅文学艺术学院音乐系主任,并在延安女子大学兼课。在延安鲁迅艺术学院任音乐系主任时,为光未然创作的“黄河大合唱”的歌词写下了这部名垂青史的音乐名作。并创作有《生产大合唱》等著名作品。
1940年赴苏联。次年苏联卫国战争爆发后,无法回国。因生活艰苦,疾病缠身。
1945年10月30日病逝于莫斯科克里姆林宫医院。在莫斯科病逝,年仅40岁。
