Section D
Step 1 Lead in
T: Guess where they are going Ss: They are going traveling. T: Do you like traveling Ss: Yes.
T: Today, Miss Xu will take you to travel. Let’s enjoy the scenery together.
Step 2 Pre-reading
T: Let’s go to some places of interest for a visit. The first stop is here. Look at the picture. What place is it Ss: Egypt.
T: What’s it famous for Ss: Pyramids.
T: We know there are many pyramids in Egypt. But do you know which is the largest one Ss: …
T: Never mind. Let me tell you. (Show the picture) It’s the Great Pyramid of Khufu. What do you want to learn about it
T: (板书完)OK. How much do you know about the Great Pyramid Ss:…(老师引导学生描述金字塔的个别特点,并教授一些生词)
Step 3 While reading
1.Skim the text and choose the best title (Extensive reading ).
2. Read the passage carefully and answer the questions on the blackboard (Intensive reading ).
3. Read the passage again and fill in the blanks (Intensive reading ).
1) The Great Pyramid was the tallest building in the world in the ___________ century.
2)The biggest stone weighs ________ tons.
3) Although there were no modern _____, each stone was _______ so well.
4.Read the passage further and choose the best answer (Further reading ).
1) What does the word “mystery” mean
2) What can we infer(推断) from the passage
A. Scientists have already understood how the ancient Egyptians built the Great Pyramid. B. It’s very difficult to build the Great Pyramid.
C. Scientists have give up studying the Great Pyramid.
Step 4 Consolidation
1. Some key points.
2. Listen to the passage and try to remember the details about the Great Pyramid. Answer the questions as quickly as you can.
3. Try to retell the passage with the help of the key words.
Location: Egypt
Founder : The King, KhufuUse: as a tomb
Features: unique, tallest Material: stonesLength: 230.4mHeight:146.5m
Elapsedtime: over 20 years
Significance: shows the wisdom and the achievements of ancient Egyptians.
Step 5 Post reading
T:We’ve learnt a lot about the Great Pyramid by traveling. Let’s go to next stop: Beijing, China. Who has ever been to Beijing
Ss: I’ve been there before.
T: OK, I’d like to know how much do you know about the Forbidden City. Choose the best answer.
Step 6 Sum up
T: What have we learned in this lesson
