Saturday, March 24th
We have arrived in the hot, wet city of Bangkok. This is our first trip to Thailand. All the different smells make us want to try the food. We are going to eat something special for dinner tonight. The hotel we are staying in is cheap, and very clean. We plan to stay here for a few days, visit some places in the city, and then travel to Chiang Mai in the North.
Tuesday, March 27th
Bangkok is wonderful and surprising. The places are interesting. We visited the famous market which was on the water, and saw a lot of fruits and vegetables. We will take the train north, stay in Chiang Mai for two days, and then catch a bus to Chiang Rai.

As I drove along the road, a small car flew across the center divider from the opposite direction and crashed into my car head-on. I fell unconscious and was awakened by the ringing of my mobile phone.
I was brought to Kuala Lumpur General Hospital bleeding on from my nose, mouth and legs. But the hospital staff was too busy to attend to me, so I called a friend to tell him about the accident. Some friends arrived very soon and sent me to a private hospital nearby. I saw my injured feet hanging from my body, blue and lifeless, and I begged the doctors to save them at all cost. They calmly promised to do their best.
The doctors made it. After I was discharged, I was given ten months medical leave. My heart sank, knowing that it meant I, a big man, couldn't work. How was I going to support my 65-year-old mother and other family members I felt completely helpless, but a lot of unexpected blessings came my way. When I was recovering at home, friends and relatives helped me with my banking, insurance or simply came to cheer me up.
When the casts(石膏)were removed, I did not let the sight of my weak legs discourage me. I worked hard at my physiotherapy(物理疗法)with only one aim. After eight months, I was walking without the aid of a walking stick. In February the following year, I returned to my job again. Today, after eight years, I have travelled to many counties as a tour leader.
The accident makes me realize how lives can change in a second. I value life more, not only of my own but also of everyone I know, and I will always try to help when I know of someone in trouble.

China will have the most 5G connections of any nation by 2025, according to a new study, while Europe will fall behind Korea, the United States and Japan in terms of 5 G penetration (渗透) by that year.
5G is the fifth generation of network technology. It is expected to bring unbelievable speeds to Internet users with some operations running 10 times faster than on 4G networks. 5G is also expected to unlock the potential in a lot of new services, including artificial intelligence, science of robots self-driving cars, and the Internet of things.
The GSMA said that China's three major mobile operators, China Unicorn, China Mobile, and China Telecom, are already moving ahead with 5G networks. While most nations will have 5G by updating existing foundations, the study noted that China plans to build part of its 5G networks.
One of the most distinguishing(显著的) factors between Chinese mobile operators and those in the rest of the world is the intention to erect the new and independent 5G networks. That is, China is determined to build a completely advanced 5G. The high cost underlines China's seriousness about paying whatever it takes.
Korea will lead the world in terms of 5G penetration in 2025, when 66 percent of the nation's total connections will be 5G, according to GSMA. This compares to 50 percent in the US, 49 percent in Japan, 36 percent in China, 30 percent in Europe, and a global average of 18 percent. Out of the five economies leading on 5G, Europe will have the lowest participation in 2025, as the area is moving more slowly in having its 5G networks.
28. What will 5G bring
A. A completely new pattern for daily life.
B. Excellent networks and national safety.
C. Amazing speeds for public transportation.
D. Realizing the potential in many new services.
29. What is the future of 5G in China

A. bring up. B. set up. C. turn up. D. pick up.
31. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. More than half Koreans use 5G in 2025. B. Chinese cannot own 5G in 2025.
C. Only five countries will have 5G in 2025. D. Europe will pay little attention to 5G in 2025.

Scientists in Rome have unveiled the first bionic(仿生的) hand with a sense of touch that can
be worn outside a laboratory. The recipient, Almerina Mascarello, who lost her left hand in an
accident nearly 25 years ago, said“It's almost like it is back again".
In 2014 the same international team produced the world's first feeling bionic hand . But the
sensory and computer equipment it was linked to was too large to leave the laboratory.
Now the technology is small enough to fit in a backpack, making it portable. The prosthetic
hand (假肢) has sensors that detect information about whether an object is soft or hard . These
Messages are linked to a computer in a backpack that converts these signals into a language the
brain will understand . The information is relayed to Almerina's brain via tiny electrodes(电极)
Implanted in nerves in the upper arm. In tests Almerina , who was blindfolded , was able to tell
whether the object she was picking up was hard or soft.
Professor Silvestro Micera , a neuroengineer at EPFL in Lausanne and Sant'Anna School of
Advanced Studies in Pisa told me, we are going more and more in the direction of science fiction
movies like Luke Skywalker's bionic hand in Star Wars- -a fully controlled, fully natural, sensorised
prosthesis, identical to the human hand. "A robotic prosthesis better than the human hand is still a
long way off , but the team believe it might eventually be a reality.
Almerina was able to keep the bionic hand for six months , but it has now been removed, as it
is still a prototype. The scientific team say they hope to miniaturize ( 使小型化 ) the technology
even further so that a sensory bionic hand can be commercialized . Almerina said that when the
bionic hand is perfected, she would like it back for good.
32. What did the underlined word "it" in Para. I refer to
A. The bionic hand B. her lost hand C.the sense of touch D.the accident
33. What does Para.3 mainly talk about
A. How the bionic hand is developed. B. How Almerina feels in the experiment.
C. How the bionic hand works. D. How to use the bionic hand.
34.What can we know according to the passage
A. The world's first bionic hand is not practical in terms of size.
B. The researchers believe a robotic prosthesis will be better than the human hand.
C. The researchers got the idea after being inspired by the film, Star Wars.
D. We can hardly distinguish the bionic hand from a real one.
35. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Almcrina is still wearing the experimental hand.
B. We can buy the bionic hand in the market.
C. The scientific team is skeptical about the future of the bionic hand.
D. Almerina will buy one after the bionic hand is perfected.

Dear Zack,
I’m sorry to hear that you failed the tryout for “Tang Poetry Recital Contest”, which means that you have to wait for another year to attend the next one. I quite understand how you feel now, but you still have many chances. You have devoted yourself to learning Chinese, especially Chinese poetry. But as we all know, it is extremely difficult for Chinese themselves to learn Chinese poetry well, much less a foreigner. To prepare the contest, you have made every effort. It’s not your fault. So I sincerely hope that you will not take this to heart, and will get ready to try again. You are certain to make it next time.
Best wishes.
Yours,
