Eugene O’Neill, who was born in 1888, in New York, was a leading American drama writer and the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1936. His father was a successful touring actor. Because of that, Eugene spent his early childhood in hotels, on trains, and backstage. Although later in his life he grew to hate his father for not giving him security in his early years and a loving, comfortable family, he had the theater in his blood.
As a student, O’Neill went to boarding schools but spent the summers in a moderate house his family owned. He left Princeton University in 1907, only about one year after he entered it, to start what he later called his real education in "life experience". At the age of 24, he was hired as a reporter and poetry column writer for the New London Telegraph
O`Neill didn't cut a figure in playwriting until the summer of 1916. Before that, he had written awkward plays that were hardly accepted by the mainstream of American theater. While O’Neill was only one of those whose plays were produced by the theater, he led the group to success because of his contribution within the next few years. Between 1916 and 1920, the theater produced all of O’Neill's one-act sea plays. By the time his first full-length play, Beyond the Horizon, was produced on Broadway on February 2, 1920 at the Morosco Theater, the young playwright already had a small reputation.
Theater critics spoke highly of Beyond the Horizon for its tragic realism. The play brought O'Neill more public attention, as well as his first Pulizer Prize, apart from which he won another three for Anna Christie, Strange Interlude, and Long Day's Journey into Night. Over the next two decades, O'Neill continued to gain reputation nationally and globally. He became the most widely produced dramatist after Shakespeare and Bernard Shaw.
24. What might inspire O'Neill's passion for theater
A. Hotel rooms he had lived in. B. The support of his family.
C. His father's career. D. Stories he had heard on trains.
25. Why did O'Neill drop out of Princeton University
A. He didn't want to study in a boarding school.
B. He wanted to receive real education from life.
C. He got a job from the New London Telegraph.
D. He was unsatisfied with the university education.
26. What does the underlined phrase "cut a figure" in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Show interest. B. Hold a degree. C. Attract attention. D. Receive an award.
27. What's the text mainly about
A. O'Neill and his family.
B. How to become a successful drama writer.
C. Several famous dramas in history.
D. O'Neil, a successful drama writer.

I was looking out the window that summer afternoon. It was as if the trees were inviting me to join in their dances as they played hide and seek in the misty fog. A strange stillness surrounded me as I sat in the hotel hall, waiting for the taxi to take me to the music camp site. I had flown for sixteen hours to attend a music camp in Michigan for three weeks. Excited more than I was nervous, I felt ready for new meetings.
A week passed like a breeze, and my cello(大提琴)notes were becoming sweeter. I took a break to the school shop with another Chinese friend. As I picked out my newfound favorite American candy bar, I noticed my friend chatting with another Chinese girl. I soon joined in with natural ease, and discovered that we were the only other Asians at the camp. It felt like a good chance that our friendship was formed forever.
During the orchestra rehearsals(排演), Mr. Lastrapes, a genius at discovering the slightest off-key note(走音的音符), persuaded me to relax my tightened arms with his soft voice and gentle manners, thereby allowing me to release notes that I could never create before. We continued to have two hours of rehearsals every day in a large hall that could hold 4, 000 people. What we had was an audience of ducks and geese outside that swam so freely and happily to our melody (调). How an unusual experience I had!
All things, good or bad, must come to an end. When I waited to board the plane, I was looking out the airport window, thinking back at the hear felt moment of farewell with my friend, Caroline, at the camp gates. We had promised to meet again, but how and when, she was returning to Kentucky, and I, to China. The cello strings were not long or tight enough to keep us connected.

A. He felt eager to have some unexpected meetings.
B. He felt excited to find out the great fun in nature.

A. He wanted to live a free and happy life like them.
B. He wanted to show he was relaxed and enjoyed the process.

D. They hugged each other without words at the camp gate.

Waking up with "morning breath" is quite normal, and it usually goes away after eating and drinking, or brushing your teeth. Your breath can also smell different after drinking coffee or alcohol, or eating spicy food, garlic or onions—sometimes you may think you've got bad breath when actually it's quite okay.
However, if you're concerned or embarrassed about halitosis(口臭)—ongoing bad breath, a trip to the doctor or dentist should be in order, because there could be something else going on with your health.
Your mouth is the first place to investigate the origin of bad breath. When smell-causing bacteria attack food after eating, they release strong-smelling Sulphur(硫). People with halitosis may have more of these bacteria(细菌)present in their mouth. Additionally, not cleaning, or brushing your teeth properly leads to a build-up of harmful substances on the teeth, and can cause some swelling and strong smell in the mouth. Medical conditions that reduce the amount of saliva(唾液)in the mouth can cause problems too. That's because saliva keeps the mouth just wet, reducing strong smell.
Strong-smelling breath can be a symptom(症状)of medical conditions such as mouth or throat infections(感染). A pear-smelling breath caused by high blood sugar, which occurs as a result of uncontrolled diabetes(糖尿病), can also indicate some other serious diseases.
If you're worried how your breath smells, nutritionist Katina Pace comes to the rescue with simple tips. "Keep away from sharp-tasting fod, drink and alcohol, " Katrina said. "Drinking water regularly and chewing fresh parsley (欧芹)can also help. "
32. When should we see a doctor about a bad breath
A. After eating sharp-tasting food.
B. When waking up with morning breath.
C. After drinking coffee or alcohol.
D. When having continuous smelly breath.
33. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A. The causes of bad breath. B. The effects of medicines.
C. The importance of saliva. D. The necessity of teeth-brushing.
34. How does the author develop Paragraph 4
A. By presenting data.
B. By analysing causes and effects.
C. By following the order of time.
D. By giving examples.
35. In which section of a newspaper may this text appear
A. Business. B. Health. C. Education. D. Entertainment.
