Today, we complete our story about the influential English writer William Shakespeare. He wrote plays and poems during the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, which remain very popular today.
During earlier times, people would probably have learned several ancient Roman and Greek plays. It was not unusual for writers to produce more current versions of these works. For example, in Shakespeare's play The Comedy oj Errors Shakespeare borrowed certain details from the ancient Roman writer Plautus. For his play Macbeth, Shakespeare most likely used a work on Scottish history by Raphael Holinshed for information. Shakespeare might have borrowed from other writers, but the intensity of his imagination and language made the plays his own. While many plays by other writers of his time have been forgotten, Shakespeare and his art live on.
Shakespeare was also influenced by the world around him. He described the sights and sounds of London in his plays. His works include observations about political struggles, the fear of diseases, and the popular language of the city's tradesmen. Shakespeare’s knowledge of the English countryside is also clear. His works include descriptions of deep forests, local flowers, and the ancient popular traditions of rural people.
It would be impossible to list all of the ways in which Shakespeare's works have influenced the world culture. But the first and greatest example would be his great influence on the English language. During his time, the English language was changing. Many new words from other languages were being added. Shakespeare used his sharp mind and poetic inventiveness to create hundreds of new words and rework old ones. For example, he created the noun forms of "critic", “mountaineer" and "eyeball". Many common expressions in English come from his plays, including “pomp and circumstance (装腔作势)” from Othello, “full circle (绕圈子地)” from King Lear, etc. The list of cultural creations influenced by Shakespeare is almost endless. From paintings to television to music and dance, Shakespeare was well represented. Shakespeare's plays have been translated into every major language in the world.
Shakespeare became a well-known writer during a golden age of theater. His years of hard work paid off.

English is the most widely used language in the history of our planet One in every seven human beings can speak it. More than half of the world's books and three quarters of international mail are in English. Of all languages, English has the largest vocabulary—perhaps as many as two million words.
However, let's face it: English is a crazy language. There is no egg in an eggplant, neither pine nor apple in a pineapple and no ham in a hamburger. Sweetmeats are candy, while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.
We take English for granted. But when we explore its paradoxes(矛盾),we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, public bathrooms have no baths in them.
And why is it that a writer writes, but fingers don't fing grocers don't groce, and hammers don't ham If the plural of tooth is teeth, shouldn't the plural of booth be beeth One goose, two geese—so one moose, two meese
How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites How can overlook and oversee be opposites, while quite a lot and quite a few are alike How can the weather be hot as hell one day and cold as hell the next
English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of human beings. That's why, when stars are out, they are visible;but when the lights are out, they are invisible. And why, when I wind up my watch, I start it; but when I wind up this essay, I end it.

I'm an English self-learner; English is not my first language. Today I am an English teacher. I would like to voice that failures are not disasters. Have faith, keep moving on, and never give up, you will see your hard work pay off.
I was a slow learner when I was little. Before five, I couldn't even speak in full sentences. Unlike most other children, I seldom interacted with others; I neither cried nor got angry. My extreme quietness made my parents wonder if I was mentally slow, but they were not sure. Actually, I have to admit that my memories of my early childhood are quite uncertain.
When I was in elementary school, I learned very slowly and was as quiet as a doll. While my teacher was teaching, my mind oftentimes would wander outside of the classroom to the playground. The learning problems and inactive personality remained with me until I was in Grade 5. As a fifth grader, I finally started interacting with my classmates. That was the first time in my memory that I had some friends. More amazingly, from that time on, I became talkative, laughing and playing like any normal child.
After heading full speed for my junior high education, my learning situation got stuck in the mud again. In my country, students were arranged into different levels of classes based on their IQ test scores. For example, students with higher IQ scores were placed in the "outstanding class"; average ones joined the "intermediate class”, and slower students were destined for the "bottom class". I was placed in the "bottom class" as a result of my below-average IQ score. Most of my teachers taught us using easy and slow methods because they considered us unable to learn much. Despite that, I never lost faith that I might succeed one day. As if to prove that when God closes a door, he will definitely open up a big window. A miracle occurred. That’s when I discovered a strong passion for English.

At present, English is frequently spoken as an official or common language in many countries, such as America, Singapore, Malaysia and some African countries. All based on British English, the English spoken in these countries can be well understood by native English speakers. But actually, these Englishes have been gradually changing in accents, spellings, expressions and the usage of vocabulary.
Because of this fact, some immigrants from non-English countries can't adapt themselves to the English culture, including students1 language learning Li Yang, a 15-year-old boy from China, had great trouble in learning English. And his parents often blamed him about this. Feeling down enough, Li Yang even came about to the idea of dropping out of school, and what’s more, leaving home.
Hiding behind the loose dusty curtain, Li Yang packed up his overcoat into the suitcase. He planned to leave home at dusk though there was thunder and lightning outdoors. He had got to do this because he was tired of his parents’ nagging about his English study and did not want to go through it any longer. He couldn't get along well with English and disliked joining in English classes because he thought his teacher ignored him on purpose. As a result, his score in each exam never added up to over 60.
His partner was concerned about him very much. She understood exactly what he was suffering from, but entirely disagreed with his idea. In order to calm him down and settle his problem, she talked with him face to face and swapped a series of learning tips with him. The items she set down helped him find the highway to studying English well.
The teenager was grateful and got great power from his friend's words. Now he has recovered from being upset and has fallen in love with English.
