Suppose you’re in a rush, feeling tired, not paying attention to your screen, and you send an email that could get you in trouble.
Realisation will probably set in seconds after you've clicked “send”. You freeze in horror and burn with
shame.
What to do Here are four common email accidents, and how to recover.
Clicking “send” too soon
Don’t waste your time trying to find out if the receiver has read it yet. Write another email as swiftly as you
can and send it with a brief title explaining that this is the correct version and the previous version should be ignored.
Writing the wrong name
The sooner you notice, the better. Respond quickly and briefly, apologising for your mistake. Keep the tone measured: don't handle it too lightly, as people can be offended, especially if your error suggests a misunderstanding of their culture(i.e. incorrect ordering of Chinese names).
Clicking “reply all” unintentionally
You accidentally reveal(透露)to the entire company what menu choices you would prefer at the staff Christmas dinner, or what holiday you'd like to take. In this instance, the best solution is to send a quick,
lighthearted apology to explain your awkwardness. But it can quickly rise to something worse, when everyone
starts hitting “reply all”to join in a long and unpleasant conversation. In this instance, step away from your keyboard to allow everyone to calm down.
Sending an offensive message to its subject
The most awkward email mistake is usually committed in anger. You write an unkind message about someone, intending to send it to a friend, but accidentally send it to the person you're discussing. In that case, ask to speak in person as soon as possible and say sorry. Explain your frustrations calmly and sensibly—see it as an
opportunity to clear up any difficulties you may have with this person.
If you have written the wrong name in an email, it is best to ________.
A.Apologize in a serious manner B.tell the receiver to ignore the error
C.learn to write the name correctly D.send a short notice to everyone
What should you do when an unpleasant conversation is started by your “reply all”email
A.Try offering other choices. B.Avoid further involvement.
C.Meet other staff members. D.Make a lighthearted apology.
How should you deal with the problem caused by an offensive email
A.By promising not to offend the receiver again.
B.By seeking support from the receiver's friends.
C.By asking the receiver to control his anger.
D.By talking to the receiver face to face.
What is the passage mainly about
A.Defining email errors. B.Reducing email mistakes.
C.Handling email accidents. D.Improving email writing.

Bad news sells. If it bleeds, it leads. No news is good news, and good news is no news. Those are the classic rules for the evening broadcasts and the morning papers. But now that information is being spread and monitored(监控) in different ways, researchers are discovering new rules. By tracking people’s e-mails and
online posts, scientists have found that good news can spread faster and farther than disasters and sob stories.
“The ‘if it bleeds’ rule works for mass media,” says Jonah Berger, a scholar at the University of Pennsylvania. “They want your eyeballs and don’t care how you’re feeling. But when you share a story with your friends, you care a lot more how they react. You don’t want them to think of you as a Debbie Downer.”
Researchers analyzing word-of-mouth communication—e-mails, Web posts and reviews, face-to-face
conversations—found that it tended to be more positive than negative(消极的), but that didn’t necessarily mean people preferred positive news. Was positive news shared more often simply because people experienced more
good things than bad things To test for that possibility, Dr. Berger looked at how people spread a particular set
of news stories: thousands of articles on The New York Times’ website. He and a Penn colleague analyzed the “most e-mailed” list for six months. One of his first findings was that articles in the science section were much more likely to make the list than non-science articles. He found that science amazed Times’ readers and made them want to share this positive feeling with others.
Readers also tended to share articles that were exciting or funny, or that inspired negative feelings like anger
or anxiety, but not articles that left them merely sad. They needed to be aroused(激发) one way or the other, and they preferred good news to bad. The more positive an article, the more likely it was to be shared, as Dr. Berger
explains in his new book, “Contagious: Why Things Catch On.”
35.What do the classic rules mentioned in the text apply to
A.News reports B.Research papers
C.Private e-mails D.Daily conversations
36.What can we infer about people like Debbie Downer
A.They’re socially inactive. B.They’re good at telling stories.
C.They’re inconsiderate of others. D.They’re careful with their words.
37.Which tended to be the most e-mailed according to Dr. Berger’s research
A.Sports new B.Science articles
C.Personal accounts D.Financial reviews
38.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Sad Stories Travel Far and Wide
B.Online News Attracts More People
C.Reading Habits Change with the Times
D.Good News Beats Bad on Social Networks

My mother always said, “You young men should explore your own country before stepping out into the world.” It seemed like a tough task. But luckily for me, Via Rail Canada offered youths between the ages of 18 and 25 the chance to ride the train across Canada for the month of July in 2017. I jumped at the opportunity and
高二英语 第 5 页 共11页
secured an inexpensive ticket.
Excitement was at its peak as I approached the train station on the morning when my 22-day adventure was
to begin. I jumped on board the passenger vessel (车厢)like it was the train to Hogwarts in Harry Potter. The train headed west in search of our first destination—the scenic town of Banff, Alberta. After just an hour on the train, desperation already came on me. The thought of three full days on those tracks broke my spirits. As I
gazed out towards Lake Superior’s glistening(shining)waves, I decided if I was to be stuck in here, I would need
to enjoy my time.
Those three days turned into a summer camp on rails. Real friendships with the crew were born within that train. Stops were made in small, remote railroad villages. A large group of strangers turned travelling companions would rush towards the villages to reward our endless patience with local cuisine. At night, we would walk to the glass-domed (玻璃穹顶)train car, which gave a scenic view of the night sky, untouched by
light pollution.
After three days, we arrived in Banff. Before my adventure of taking the train across Canada, if I could have skipped the travel and arrived at the destination, I would have. But that is no longer true. I’ve learned that the journey can be more enjoyable than the destination.
39.What made the author’s train trip possible
A.The encouragement from his mother. B.The attraction of the splendid scenery.
C.A time-limited ticket offer for youths. D.His determination to face the tough tasks.
40.What did the author experience after one hour on the train
A.Great joy B.A dream-like trip
C.Unrealistic hopes D.Faded enthusiasm
41.Which of the following best describes the author as a young man
A.Considerate B.Adaptable
C.Smart D.Determined
42.What has the author learned from his adventure
A.To enjoy travelling on his own. B.To be content with train service.
C.To skip to the final destination. D.To explore more in the process.
第二节 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。(共 5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
Food is a deeply rooted expression of identity, values and ways of life. 43 That is, eating is an
element of common ground in terms of human existence and an experience that brings people together. Food is family treasure in the way recipes are passed on from one generation to another, maintaining family connection and cultural and geographical ancestral links.
Food is an expression. What we cook is an expression of who we are and where we come from. 44
The traditional meals of a place touch on identity and ancestry. Every destination has a dish or cuisine associated with it, which is fixed on culture and identity.
You may not know it, but that is why experiencing the local dishes of a new place usually tops one’s to-do
list in a foreign land. Eating a local dish is a way to connect with the local people. 45
高二英语 第 6 页 共11页
Food is symbolic. Home is where the heart is and in sensory response to food, familiar flavor arouses
homesickness. 46 The ordinary smell of food takes one back to particular times in the past. The
beautiful and merry essence of eating with family and friends from home adds to the pleasant tastes of meals.
47 Food and food habits serve as a culture channel of display of affection and emotional
association and the sharing of delicious, nutritional food signals a bridge of closeness and acceptance.
Eating food is a universal experience.
Accepting food is hard.
Food is therefore a reminder of fond memories of home.
Food is largely cultural as well as nutritional.
Food, however, sometimes gives us bad emotional experiences.

六、写作(20 分)
Dear editor,
Learning that the Cultural Exchange section in your newspaper is organizing a heated debate concerning the
social phenomenon of Chinese students going abroad for further studies at an early age, I am writing to voice my
viewpoint on this issue.
As far as I am concerned, it is unwise for teenagers to further their study abroad too early since they may be
overwhelmed with tremendous pressure in daily life and academic learning. Being exposed to an unfamiliar
environment with limited language skills is likely to leave them confused and depressed, which will consequently lead
to a negative self-assessment. In other words, they are far from mature enough to handle the challenges in a foreign
country by themselves.
Beyond this, as China has boomed, the domestic educational environment has improved significantly with great
teaching facilities and exceptional professors available. In other words, young people who study in China also can
benefit from the advanced teaching resources at home, hence contributing to the economy after graduation.
To sum up, the disadvantages of studying abroad at an early age far outweigh its advantages, so as middle-school
students, we should devote our time to studying harder in our own country and improving ourselves. Thank you for
your time reading my letter.
Yours,
Li Hua

M: I saw so much in the cities. I was amazed by the festivals I attended and the museums about the natives. However,
I didn’t get to visit the mountains that I really wanted to see because it was just too cold. (4)
W: That’s okay. It sounds like you had a good time. I bet you’ll be back there someday. What kind of food did you eat
there (5)
M: I was so surprised at how many different cultures live in Canada. They have typical western food, like we do here,
but they specialize in different things. There are far more French and Chinese restaurants. I mainly went to the
European-style restaurants because my cousin, Gene, really likes them. (5) (6)
W: I thought you went out there for a business trip with your manager, and to meet up with an old friend
M: Yes. That is why I went there, but not the only thing I did while there. Because I was moving around a lot, instead
of paying for a hotel I stayed with Gene. (6)

W: You can’t just eat potato chips for a meal. It’s not enough. (7)
M: Why not I love the taste of them. Besides, I only eat one small bag for lunch. It’s quick and easy.
W: Your body needs more than just artificial flavors and junk food. (7)
M: I eat plenty of vegetables with my dinner. Besides, I have a big breakfast every morning. I’m not really hungry at
noon. (8) I don’t have much time in between my university classes this year. It’s not like when I was growing up
and you made me food to bring to school. (10)
W: You’re not done growing yet, though. If you want to grow up to be big and strong you should think more about the
food you eat.
M: I understand what you’re saying, but I don’t think it will affect me that much.
W: I just want you to live a long life.
M: I know, but I just went to the doctor and she said I was very healthy. (9) I exercise three times a week for that
purpose. When I am out of school and have more time and money, I can change my habits for something better.

Which country is better at football, England or France In terms of winning, it would have to be France. England
has only won a single World Cup, and it was back in 1966. France has won two, first in 1998 and then twenty years
later in 2018. This is a good indication because both teams have featured in the World Cup 15 times.
However, if you look at the European Cup, both teams have appeared 9 times. Once again, France has won the
Cup twice, in 1984 and later in 2000. The highest England has reached was third place in 1968 and again in 1996.
However, there are other numbers that show England’s strength. The team’s biggest win was 13-0, while France
recorded a 10-0 win in 1995. France once lost 1-17, whereas England’s biggest defeat was 1-7, a difference of 10
goals.
England has also enjoyed the more time at the very top of the football rankings than France. At their lowest they
were ranked 17th, while at one point France dropped as low as 40th. The majority of England’s players also play in
their national league, while French players play in leagues all around the world.
Historically, England may be the better team, but in recent years France has been champions twice.
