Tanaka, a 118-year-old woman from Japan who has been certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living person, gave up her position in the Olympic torch relay.
Tanaka celebrated her 118th birthday on January 2, 2021. She had planned to carry the torch as it passed through the town of Shime, in the prefecture of Fukuoka, where she has lived her entire life. If so, she would become the oldest person ever to carry the Olympic torch.
She even had a new pair of sports shoes for the event--- a birthday present from her family. Her relatives had decided to push her in a wheelchair for most of the 100 meters, but she would walk the last few steps before handing the torch to the next runner. However, Tanaka decided to pull out of Olympic torch relay because of the spread of COVID-19.
Tanaka was born in 1903. Tanaka married a rice shop owner, Hideo Tanaka, when she was 19 years old, with whom she had four children. Tanaka worked in the family shop until she was 103. She has five grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. Tanaka now lives in a nursing home, where she usually wakes up at 6 am and she spends her time doing math puzzles and playing the board game Othello.
She lived through two world wars and the 1918 Spanish flu, although her grandson said, “ I don’t remember her talking much about the past… she really enjoys living in the present. It’s great she reaches that page! We want other people to see it and be inspired, and not to think age is a barrier.”
However, Tanaka has a few years to go before she is the oldest person ever. The record is held by Jeanne Louise Calment, a Frenchwoman who has 122 years old when she died in 1997. * Tanaka has said she wants to break the record.

People often ask me for suggestions about how to learn English. As for it, everyone is different, I'll share some of my experience. I once took a school year English course in Wuhan University, but I mostly learned English on my own.
One thing I can tell you is that, once you've started learning, you should try to think in English as much as you can. If you see something when you're riding your bike or walking down the street, just think about "How would I say them in English " At first, it might be with simple words or phrases, but later you should think about longer phrases and sentences. Now I'm in America, and for most of the time, I would think in English and speak it directly. It's amazing how much this helps.
For several years after I started learning, I was often afraid of talking with others in English because I didn't want to make mistakes. Finally I got it over. And while traveling in America, I'd try to hung out with friends who couldn't speak Chinese, so that I'd have no choice but to speak English. And I also decided that if I said something stupid and other people laughed at me, then so be it. After that, my English started improving much more quickly.
Besides, it may be a good idea to ask your American friends to look at the way you 're writing, and give you some suggestions for improvement.

International travel is popular, but visitors can run into trouble if they don’t know some basic "rules". So, it's important to learn about the cultures they’re visiting.
BRAZIL
In general, Brazilian culture is informal(随意的). Most Brazilians are very friendly, so it's important to greet the people you meet. Normally women kiss on the cheek, but men usually just shake hands. Brazilians usually stand very close to each other while speaking. Even if this is unusual in your culture, try not to move away if it happens. If you go to a business meeting, you are not expected to take a gift.
On the other hand, if you are invited to someone's house, you should take a gift —like flowers or chocolate. However, avoid anything purple or black, as these colors have to do with death.
If you are invited to dinner, arrive at least 30 minutes late, but always dress well, because a person's appearance can be very important to Brazilians.
SAUDI ARABIA
Saudi Arabia is a very traditional country. It is important to greet the oldest or the most senior person first. People shake hands in business situations, but men and women do not touch in public.
In a business meeting, do not start with business matters at once. Instead, lead in the conversation by asking about people’s family or health. Arrive on time for business meetings, but don’t be surprised if others are late. Being on time is less important in Saudi Arabia than it is in most western countries. Business dress is formal.
Gifts are not expected at business meetings. If you are invited to a Saudi home, acceptable gifts are chocolate or coffee. Be careful not to admire the things the host owns, because he or she will feel necessary to give an item to you as a gift.
