A recent survey finds that nearly half of adult British aren’t getting 8 hours’ sleep a night. But is it good enough for us to just sleep for 8 hours The answer is absolutely “No”. A goodnight’s sleep is important as well.
If you want to get a good rest, the key is that you go to bed and get up at the right time. Our body’s natural sleep pattern works in 90-minute cycles (周期). Being woken by an alarm during one of the 90-minute cycle will make people feel groggy(昏昏沉沉的). And it will make it harder to get out of the bed at the same time. Now, Hillarys, a British company, has made a clever sleep calculator. It can work out what time you need to go to bed just by setting the time you need to get up. For example, if you want to wake up feeling fresh at 7 a.m., you just need to head to bed at 9:45 p.m., because it might take you 15 minutes to fall asleep. You will get 6 cycles during the night. For night owls, heading to bed at 12:45 a.m. is a good choice. Tara Hall, a public speaker for hillarys.co.uk, said, “Getting a good night’s sleep is about more than simply going to bed early. It’s about waking up at the right time, too.”
A bad sleep makes us feel groggy and has a bad influence on our health. A good night’s sleep is important for many reasons. Not only does it help us pay more attention to our work or study during the day, but it is also great for our mind and even our body. What’s more, a good sleep gives our immune system(免疫系统) the rest which it needs to keep our body fit and healthy to get ready to fight off certain illnesses.
26. What’s the writer’s main purpose of writing Paragraph 1

The two-week Tokyo Paralympics (残疾人奥运会) recently came to an end. The global sporting event was a great party of historic firsts and moments of shared joy and pain. Here we have recorded just a few of the special moments.
Holding the bat in his mouth, the Egyptian para-table tennis winner plays games by kicking (踢) the ball high with his right foot. Starting at 13, Ibrahim Hamadtou, who lost his arms at the age of 10 in a train accident, spent years working hard to perfect his skills. “It was quite difficult to play table tennis after the accident,” Hamadtou recalled. “At the beginning, people were surprised to see me playing. Then they encouraged and supported me a lot and they were very proud of my perseverance (毅力). I believe that nothing is impossible, as long as you work hard.
World record holder Liu Cuiqing won the T11 women’s 200m final for her second gold in Tokyo. The blind Chinese sportswoman Liu and her sighted guide (a person who tells blind runners how far they have left to run and help them stay in their lanes (跑道)) Xu Donglin have been competing together for 8 years. Egg carving (蛋雕) is often called the most fragile (easy-broken) art in the world, as it requires great care before, during and even after the carving. Yu Wen, the granddaughter of a known local painter in Dandong, Liaoning Province, has been practicing egg carving since 1996.
Yu has used more than 10,000 eggs and years of hard work has left many thick calluses (茧) on her hands. Sometimes she can’t even hold chopsticks after a long day of holding the carving knife. That makes the sense of achievement even greater when you complete a piece,” said Yu.
Yu’s love for egg carving started with a local tradition. In the northeast of China, when a baby is born, friends and relatives often send eggs colored red or carved lucky words as gifts. The character (文字) “Fu” is a popular one carved onto eggs. Yu carved with not only popular characters or traditional patterns, but also Peking Opera marks and wall paintings.
