A neighbour called 911 at 11:09 a.m. after seeing smoke coming from a house in the 165 block of 54th Street South-east.
The man who lives in the home was able to get his older child and the family dog out of the house on fire. Just then Monroe police officers arrived. The father said his younger child was still on the upper level of the house but he didn’t know where.
Officers did a quick search of the house but couldn’t find the girl. One of them closed the door to the master bedroom, where the fire started, controlling it and slowing its spread. Firefighters arrived and after searching the closet and narrow beds in another bedroom, one firefighter noticed the closed toy box at the foot of the bed.
“She wasn’t making sounds,” later the firefighter said of the girl, whose exact age he didn’t know.“I opened it up and saw her. She was lying in the toy box just balled up.”
Firefighters got the girl outside, where she was examined by doctors and found to be fine. The fire was quickly put out. The police officer who managed to shut the master bedroom door was highly praised. And the girl’s father was so thankful to firefighters.

What are you going to do if you are in a burning house How will you escape Do you know how to save yourself Please read the following passage.
Escaping from a fire is a serious matter. Knowing what to do during a fire can save your life.
It is important to know the ways you can use and show them to everyone in the family, such as stairways and fire escapes, but not lifts.
From the lower floors of the buildings, escaping through windows is possible. Learn the best way of leaving by windows with the least chance of serious injury.
The first floor window is usually not very high from the ground. Though it is a little dangerous, it is safer to jump a short way than to stay in a burning building.
Windows are also useful when you are waiting for help. Be sure to keep the door closed. Or smoke and fire may be drawn into the room. Keep your head low at the window to be sure you get fresh air rather than smoke that may have leaked(渗) into the room.
On a first or second floor, the best windows for escape are those that open onto a roof. From the roof a person can drop to the ground more safely. Dropping onto cement(水泥) might end in injury. Bushes(灌木丛) and grass can help to break a fall.

Being trapped in an elevator(电梯) can be one of the worst experiences of one's life. Some people who have such experiences may be afraid to use an elevator again. In fact, there are some useful tips to follow when people are in trouble with the elevator.
First, take deep breaths and keep calm. Too much fear will add to your panic(恐慌) and make you too nervous to think clearly. Tell yourself to be patient and believe that nothing is impossible.
Secondly, use the emergency(急救) call inside the elevator or your mobile phone to let people outside know you are stuck in the elevator. There is an emergency call on the wall of each elevator. You may use your mobile phone to give light and find it. The phone number can be found around it.
Thirdly, putting up messages on WeChat(微信) is also a good idea to allow more people to find you are in need of help. If help hasn't come, knock the door to get attention from other people in the building.
Fourthly, move less and try to relax. Even if the workers have known your situation, it may take them a long time to repair the elevator and bring you back to safety. Instead of keeping moving all the time, you are advised to keep still and relax yourself as much as possible, or you will make yourself tired out. Make sure that you are fine when the door is open.

Dear friends,
I'm a middle school student. My name is Li Hua. As we know, we have only one Earth. But in recent years, many disasters happened on the Earth and unusual weather appeared very often. Even worse, the COVID 19 broke out nearly all over the world in 2020. All these bad things were caused by the terrible environment, but the terrible environment was caused by humans. As students, what should we do
First, in order to protect our environment, we can give talks on how important the environment is. Second, we should save water and energy in our daily life. Third, in order to reduce air pollution, it's better to go to school by bus, by bike or on foot. Fourth, we should divide the garbage into four kinds before putting it into the dustbins, and we should learn how to sort it. And we can reuse bags instead of plastic bags. Last but not least, no business, no killing. We all should know that wild animals are part of the environment, so we shouldn't eat them. It's time for us to protect wild animals.
If we all keep doing these things, I believe the environment will be better and better. Let's try our best!

A strong rainstorm hit my hometown. It happened on June 25th last year when we were having classes at school. Because it rained heavily, Mr Wang asked us to go home early. On my way home, I saw many people waiting for the bus at the station. A strong wind blew away my umbrella. I nearly fell down. When I got home, I was all wet. It rained for the whole night. On the second day, the rainwater was everywhere. The flood washed away many trees and stones. The traffic was very bad because of the rainstorm. We were all late for school.
