Keep away from windows, pictures or advertisements on the wall or the building, and anything else that could fall and hurt you. Most people get injured by falling things during an earthquake, not by the shaking itself.
Also keep away from a fire. You could fall down and burn yourself on the fire.
If you are driving when an earthquake happens, stop the car if it’s safe. Stay inside your car until the earthquake stops, and don’t drive near bridges. Try not to stop by power lines or trees. These could fall and hurt you.

Montgomery County Special Olympics held its eighth yearly show of unified (联合的) basketball at Blessed Sacrament School. The gym was filled with cheerleaders (啦啦队队员), parents and friends. The walls were covered with posters made by third and fourth graders at the school. And all the elementary, middle and high school unified teams were playing hard and having fun. Every basket, no matter which team scores, is cheered and celebrated.
Special Olympics support more than 20 unified games. What are unified games They are programs designed for players with special needs. In the games, they play with kids who are volunteers, called unified partners. The special athletes are unable to play normally like other healthy kids, and some of them are wheelchair (轮椅) users. In basketball, the unified partners rebound (抢得篮板球), pass and sometimes push a special athlete’s wheelchair. As Brian Ross, a seventh grader at St. Albans School in Washington, says, “ You just try to help and get everyone to take part.”
Some special athletes have come a long way to be where they are. Caleb Head is a 15 year old special athlete. When he started, Caleb would only stand at the door and watch. Then Caleb began to practice his shooting but still would not play in the games. Now Caleb runs up and down looking for his shot.
The special athletes are not the only ones who benefit (受益) from unified sports; the unified partners do, too. Marla Grusin, whose son Tyler is a special athlete, says every kid should come to a Special Olympics game. If they do, they will learn “to share the ball” and that “the game is not all about me”.
Not a bad lesson for any athlete.

I left England for Sydney in September. It was a career move for my husband, and our 20-year-old daughter was feeling adventurous and decided to come, too. However, just before leaving England, my 79-year-old mother suffered a stroke(中风). Being strong and independent, she continued to live at home with the help of social services. But she couldn’t look after the garden. 1 thought how wonderful it would be if then, was an organisation offering volunteer help. Friends asked me what I planned to do in Australia, and I told them I would he looking for a volunteer position witch a gardening charitable organisation. Imagine my surprise when I found just the organisation I had been looking for——Easy Care Gardening (ECG)!

Secondly, through working with ECG I have been lucky enough to explore Sydney’s North Shore that I might not have had the chance to visit otherwise.
Finally, there are all those wonderful people we call clients (客户) ”,but are more like friends when we visit them often and tend their gardens. What great people I have met, and the stories they have to tell—the family histories, where they come from and the reasons for immigrating to Australia! I find it a privilege to have access to private gardens which, in many cases, have been the joy of their owners for many years. Each one is individual and reflects the character, needs and the history of each family. Indeed, the gardens reflect the multicultural and historical background of Sydney.

B.They like to explore Sydney’s North Shore.
C.They are of similar ages and back grounds.
D.They are kind-hearted with the same interest.

The seller saw me standing before the counter and asked, “Hey little girl, you want to eat a bowl?” “But …but I do not carry money …” I shyly replied.
“Okay, I’ll treat you.” the seller said, “come in, I will cook you a bowl.”
A few minutes later the owner brought me a steaming bowl of noodles. After eating some pieces, I cried.
“What is it?” He asked.
“Nothing. I am just touched by your kindness!” I said as I wiped my tears. “Even a stranger on the street gives me a bowl of noodles, and my mother, after a quarrel, chased me out of the house. She is cruel (残忍的)!”
The seller sighed, “Girl, why did you think so Think again. I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you felt that way. Your mother has been taking care of you since you were little, why were you not grateful and why did you hurt your mom You should say sorry to your mom.”

Text 10
W: Olayemi Samson is a Nigerian businessman. He is turning plastic waste into useful things like clothing, school bags, car covers and shoes Samson says he is doing his part to fight pollution and support recycling.
A World Bank report says the city of Lagos makes about 9,000 tons of waste a day. Samson says part of that waste includes about 27 million plastic water bags. It takes 20 to 30 years before they rot. That’s when Samson came up with the idea. The first step in Samson's process is to collect the used bags from a waste site. Then, he washes them. After that, he can begin to sew the bags together, making car covers, school bags and other goods. His latest recycled creation is a raincoat
Some people cannot see the history of Samson’s creations. Emmanuel Itiniyi of Lagos says the products are dirty. He says, “I won't allow my child to wear it as a cloth to go to school or a bag to go to school. It doesn't make any sense.” But others are more accepting, like Victor Anyaese. “Yes. I can use it, because seeing the picture, it looks lovely. I can use it probably for fun.”
Samson's business is not profitable yet. But (he hopes his work will help push young people and people in power to protect the environment.
