24. B。 This past Sunday my enquiring mind got the best of me, so I stopped jogging and walked over to her"和第三段中的"I’d love to know what you’re doing with these turtles"可知,作者之所以停止慢跑,走到那位老妇人身边,是因为她好奇老妇人究竟在做什么。故选B。
25. A。 Anything on a turtle’s shell, like algae(水藻), reduces the turtle’s ability to absorb heat and impedes its ability to swim" "helping these little guys out"可知,龟壳上的任何东西,比如水藻,对乌龟都是不利的,会减弱乌龟吸热的能力和它游泳的能力。 故选A。

根据最后一段中的algae also makes the surface of the snow darker, which leads to less sunlight being reflected from the snow's surface并结合全段内容可知, 绿雪藻的增多意味着更多的太阳热量被吸收, 加速气候变暖, 故本段主要介绍了绿藻的影响, 故选B项。

Domhoff and Schneider tailored word strings for each dreamer, mixing elements of traditional research with digital tools for analyzing large data sets"可知,Domhoff和Schneider为两个参与者定制了词串,将传统研究方法与用于分析大型数据集的数字工具相结合。

37.根据本空后的“You were also born rich.”
38.根据本空后的“Your level of self -confidence is always based on the degree of control that you are able to exercise over yourself, and thus over your life.”
39.根据本空前的“Failures think that everything happens by accident and chance and they have no responsibility for it.”
40.根据本空前的“Everything happens as a result of something.”
You were born a winner符合语境。

It is/was +被强调部分+that…为强调句型,去掉It is/was和that,句子仍然成立。本句去掉It is/was和that,句子变为my laziness and poor preparation led to my failure,句子成立,故为强调句型,故将which改为that。
本句that从句中的主语为we,而后面的as long as为that从句中的从句,所以as long as从句主语和we保持一致,故将I改为we。

Every Sunday morning I take a light jog around a lake in a park. Each time I jog by this lake, I see the same elderly woman sitting at the water’s edge with a small metal cage sitting beside her.
This past Sunday my enquiring mind got the best of me, so I stopped jogging and walked over to her. I realized that the metal cage was in fact a small trap. There were three turtles, unharmed, slowly walking around the base of the trap. She had the fourth turtle in her lap that she was carefully brushing with a brush.
“Hello,” I said. “If you don’t mind my nosiness(好打听), I’d love to know what you’re doing with these turtles.” She smiled. “I’m cleaning off their shells. Anything on a turtle’s shell, like algae(水藻), reduces the turtle’s ability to absorb heat and impedes its ability to swim. It can also weaken the shell over time.” She went on, “I spend a couple of hours each Sunday morning, relaxing by this lake and helping these little guys out. It’s my own strange way of making a difference.”
“But don’t most freshwater turtles live their whole lives with algae hanging from their shells ” I asked. “Yep, sadly, they do,” she replied. “Well then, don’t you think your time could be better spent And 99% of these turtles don’t have kind people like you to help them clean off their shells. So, no offense... but how exactly are your efforts here truly making a difference ”
The woman laughed aloud. She then looked down at the turtle in her lap, brushing the last piece of algae from its shell, and saisd, “Sweetie, if this little guy could talk, he’d tell you I just made all the difference in the world. You can change the world — maybe not all at once, but one person, one animal, and one good deed at a time. Wake up every morning and pretend what you do makes a difference. It does.”

Snow algae (藻) is already a part of summer on the Antarctic Peninsula. A warming planet may mean a lot more of it. The algal blooms (藻花) that blanket parts of Antarctica's snow cover in the summer are likely to expand as the planet warms, researchers say in a new study.
Green snow algae is found in warmer areas along the coastline where summer temperatures are above freezing, but still cold enough there to snow, say scientists in a study published this Wednesday in the journal Nature. It's also more abundant in areas in close proximity to nesting sites and gathering places for animals like penguins and seals, whose feces (粪便) fuel the algae's growth.
Green algae isn't new for Antarctica—it's known to have been there to some degree for decades, New Scientist notes. But what researchers found suggests that climate change could have a major impact on algae in Antarctica, which, in turn, could have its own impact on a warming planet.
The scientists don't predict that green algae will spread on all parts of the peninsula. In fact, some small low-lying islands are likely to lose algae, because those islands may lose their summer snow cover altogether—and the snow algae can't grow without snow. But they predict the amount of green algae is likely to grow on larger pieces of land, where it can spread upward to higher ground that still has snow.
So what does more algae mean, besides turning the landscape green It's not totally clear. The green algae works as a carbon sink—the current amount of algae in Antarctica pulls about 500 tons of carbon from the atmosphere each year. On the other hand, algae also makes the surface of the snow darker, which leads to less sunlight being reflected from the snow's surface, Scientific American notes. That means that more of the sun's heat gets absorbed, speeding up warming. It's high time that we should protect our planet.
28. What causes the expansion of algal blooms in Antarctica
A. The melting of snow. B. The rising air temperature.
C. The researchers' activities. D. The covering of snow.
29. What do we know about green snow algae
A. It has covered all parts of Antarctica. B. It will spread to islands without snow.
C. It can grow in warm or fertilized places. D. It has some effects on penguins and seals.
30. What is the last paragraph mainly about
A. A carbon sink in Antarctica. B. The influence of green algae.
C. Changes of Antarctica's snow. D. Sunlight reflected from the snow's surface.
31. What is the author's purpose in writing the text
A. To share a new discovery about green algae.
B. To explain the origins of green snow algae.
C. To call on people to protect the environment.
D. To show his concern about green snow algae.

The secrets of dreaming are always interesting psychologists. It is generally acknowledged in the field that dreams people have during this time between childhood and full adulthood, that's around 30, are the strongest and most influential. Yet not enough is known about the repeated patterns of dreaming. Researchers are still trying to answer a basic question: how does dreaming relate to the life experiences and developmental challenges
G. William Domhoff and Adam Schneider, at the University of California, help to answer this question by examining the lengthy dream series of two individuals, "Izzy" and "Jasmine". Izzy provided a collection of 4,329 dream reports from between the ages of 12 and 25, while Jasmine provided 664 dreams recorded between the ages of 14 and 25.
Large collections of dreams like these pose challenges to researchers. Until recently, the means of studying dream series was to employ a team of recorders who take the time to code each dream for a predetermined number of content categories, and then compare their results. Nowadays, digital technologies enable the analysis of language usage in dreams with high speed, precision, and objectivity. This marks a revolutionary advance in the science of dreaming. However, it can only lead so far.
To gain more specific and detailed insights, Domhoff and Schneider tailored word strings for each dreamer, mixing elements of traditional research with digital tools for analyzing large data sets. For Izzy these word strings included "family and relatives", "celebrities" and "fantasy", while the word strings they created for Jasmine included "familiar places", "electrical equipment" and "music". The researchers used these word strings to identify connections between their dreams and real lives. Surprisingly, the results of the analysis revealed a great deal of consistency and continuity in both sets of dreams. Izzy pays much attention to pop culture, and has affection for famous actors. Jasmine is an accomplished musician and performer.
"The frequencies of dream elements reveal the intensity of the dreamer's personal concern with that element in waking thought," Domhoff and Schneider conclude. For anyone who still claims dreaming is merely random nonsense from the brain and mental world, these findings are hard to explain away.
32. What do psychologists agree with about dreams
A. Dreams are influenced by life experiences.
B. Dreaming is never nonsense from the brain.
C. Dreams in one's teens and twenties are most intense.
D. The patterns of dreaming are usually repeated.
33. What does "it" underlined in paragraph 3 refer to
A. The collection of dreams. B. Research into dreaming.
C. The digital method. D. The challenge for psychologists.
34. How do the researchers conduct their study
A. By analyzing large data sets.
B. By developing individualized word strings.
C. By identifying the patterns of dreaming.
D. By making comparison with traditional research.
35. Which can be the best title for the text
A. New tech, new finding B. Dreams: reflections of waking reality
C. Lives, languages, dreams D. Life experiences: elements of mental world
From now on, never spend your limited time thinking of reasons for your failures and weaknesses. Instead, realize that seeds of success were planted within you when you were born. 36
The seeds , and the power to grow them, are contained in the most powerful machine ever created: the human mind. Success is a choice but not a chance. 37 You were also born rich. You can be a success if you make the right choice.
38 Your level of self -confidence is always based on the degree of control that you are able to exercise over yourself, and thus over your life. People with low self-confidence are people who do not believe that they have any power, or responsibility for their lives. They are mere victims.
You can exercise control over your life only to the degree that you believe that you are responsible for everything that happens in your life. Failures think that everything happens by accident and chance and they have no responsibility for it. 39
Everything happens as a result of something. 40 We are responsible for what we choose to think and believe. One generally rises to the level that one expects. We are responsible for setting our expectations. Our success is dependent upon our level of confidence.
A.You were born a winner.
B.Don’t lose heart even if you’re in face of failure.
C.But successful people realize they are responsible.
D.If we can recognize the cause, we can control the effect.
E. Only you yourself have the power to make those seeds grow.
F. You cannot be successful without first developing your self-confidence.
G. Success depends on your cooperation with others as well as your own effort.

For more than 20 years I have been traveling the world, preferring often to spend a year or two in different countries rather than to just visit as a tourist. It has become a big part of my 41 as an adult and 42 how I see the world and myself.
My first 43 of this amazing life was when I was 19 years old. I was 44 among a small group of college classmates to spend a year abroad. This was long before people could travel the world 45 through social media like Facebook and Instagram. In order to see a place, you had to go there and 46 it firsthand.
Living 47 can be exciting. I thought it would be easier because I 48 the language, but I enjoyed the little differences between the British and American culture and language. For instance, instead of garbage the British called it "rubbish"; instead of favor they 49 it "favour".
But there were also 50 that year too. One of my classes was called "Europe Since 1870". In the U.S., I would have expected an introductory history class, but in England, I was 51 to have already known the history; now was the time to analyze it. That 52 I not only had to learn the history as I went along, but also I had to try to write a paper explaining why certain events happened as they did. I know now that I was thrown into the deep 53 , in a completely different and far more challenging environment, and it was natural that I wouldn't understand everything easily. Despite this, I don't 54 anything about my time in London. Even through painful experiences, we learn to 55 .
Sometimes the difficult times made me sad and homesick. But luckily that was not as important as the 56 experience I had getting to know people from all over the world. I met dozens of interesting people from places like France, Greece and Germany in Europe, to Rwanda, Palestine and Australia. Learning how to make friends with people from different cultures and backgrounds was really fun, and these new friends helped put a(n) 57 to the countries they represented (代表).
As I finished the 58 year, I was torn inside about leaving London after such a life-changing experience. I learned so much about myself as a young woman and an American. When I 59 to my college for my final year, friends and professors saw a(n) 60 me. I had more maturity and self-awareness that I hadn't had before. It was just the beginning of a future of world travel and a love of different people and cultures.

As the saying goes, chance favored the prepared mind. I learned this from one of my experience.
I was not chosen as member of the volleyball team of our school. Because of this, I decided to give up play volleyball. Luckily, my best friend stopped me but pointed out that it was my laziness and poor preparation which led to my failure. After that, I practiced playing volleyball on every day. When another chance of trying out arrived, I was full prepared and tried my best. As a result, I was selected and became an important player on our school team.
From this, I am firmly convincing that we are able to seize a chance as long as I get well prepared.
