One possible version:
Dear Miss Janes,
I’m Li Hua, chairman of the Students’ Union. I am writing to ask you for a favor.
As you know, all the students in Senior 3 are busy preparing for their college entrance examination. To keep
them better motivated, we intend to shoot some inspirational videos, where teachers and students are expected to
give them some encouragement and best wishes within 2 minutes. As the most respected and loved teacher, you are
the very person we’d like to turn to.
Your timely reply will be greatly appreciated.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
She passed through the two-hour pace group, running steadily ahead of them. I followed her, and the pacer was
behind ing down a valley, she ran even faster. I still followed her. Around mile 10, the increase in crowd
support and music inspired me to pick up my pace. As she was slowing down, I went all out to pass her. But around
mile 11, I was behind her again. She gave me a thumbs-up and said something encouraging to me. Although I fell
behind her, my focus was still on the end of her braid. Then there came the hardest mile—mile 12.
Knowing the finish line was close but feeling extremely tired, I wanted to walk. But just then, new inspiration
found me. A girl from the crowd started shouting to Ann, “Go, Mom! Keep it up!” I thought if Ann could keep going,
so could I. We pulled each other along. I crossed the finish line eight minutes faster than my goal—1:52! Ann
finished a few seconds ahead of me. She hugged me, saying my persistence had inspired her, but I knew it was her
steadiness that motivated me to achieve my goal. That day I learned if we draw on the people around us, we all can
finish strongly.
2. 由第一段首句“She passed through the two- hour pace group, running steadily ahead of them.”
3. 接第二段首句“Knowing the finish line was close but feeling extremely tired, I wanted to walk.”,此时应该有什

Text 10
M: Have you ever seen a small, red beetle(甲虫) with black dots on its back These little insects, called ladybugs,
are harmless to humans. A ladybug does not bite or sting humans. Ladybugs are also harmless to plants, and they
do not carry diseases. But how did the ladybug get its name There are many stories. One of these stories came
from the Middle Ages. The crops were being eaten, and the villagers began praying. The red beetles with
black dots came and ate the harmful insects. These beetles were named “the Beetles of Our Lady.” The name
was shortened to lady beetles or ladybugs.
Since then, the ladybug has been known to bring good luck. There are many beliefs about ladybugs from all over
the world. It has been said that if a ladybug lands on a maiden’s hand, she will marry soon. In England,
it has been said that if a farmer sees a ladybug, he will have a good harvest. Some people believe that the number
of spots you see on a ladybug’s back will present the number of children you will have.
Ladybugs today can still bring good fortune. If you have ladybugs in your garden, then you do not need
to use insect poison to get rid of aphids(蚜虫). Aphids are tiny insects that are harmful to many plants.
They suck the juice from the leaves of the plant. A ladybug can eat as many as 50 aphids in a day. Some
people buy ladybugs to fight the aphids.
