A new course on world heritage and its conservation offers a good opportunity for the young people to learn about the legacy (遗产) of humanity and gain a sense of responsibility to help protect the planet we live on.
According to a world heritage education programme jointly launched by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and China's Ministry of Education, the course will first be offered at several schools in Beijing before being included as a mandatory course (必修课) for high school students nationwide.
The new course covers photos, slide shows and documentaries on the magnificence of the world heritage sites. The class aims to tell children what world heritage is and why and how it should be protected. A total of 177 nations, including China, have signed the Convention Concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Listed are 754 sites all over the world, of which 29 are in China—the third most after Spain and Italy. Currently, protection of the country's cultural and natural resources leaves much to be desired. Education is undoubtedly the best way to cultivate people's sense for protecting cultural and natural resources.
The introduction of such a programme in Chinese classrooms will certainly help our young people realize the significance of common heritage, learning about world heritage sites, the history and traditions of different cultures, ecology, and the importance of protecting biological and cultural diversity.
More importantly, it will help cultivate a sense of responsibility in the minds of young participants. This is critical in protecting these cultural and natural legacies, as well as our living environment and the limited resources for sustainable development.
24.Which of the statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A.The world heritage education programme was jointly launched by the United States and China's Ministry of Education.
B.The course will first be offered at all the schools in Beijing.

D.China ranks high among the countries with 29 sites listed on the list.
25.What can you expect to learn at the class?
A.What world heritage is.
B.Why we should protect world heritage.
C.How world heritage should be protected.
D.All of the above.
26.The underlined word “cultivate” in the third paragraph probably means .
A.distribute B.exploit C.develop D.improvise
27.What's the purpose of the passage?
A.To inform us of the reason for protecting the heritage.
B.To tell us the way to protect the heritage.
C.To tell us a new course.
D.To tell us heritage preservation starts with education.

A campaign (活动) is being launched to encourage children to surrender 30 minutes of screen time a day to head for the great outdoors.
The Wild Network—a collaboration (合作) of nearly 2,000 organisations—is attempting to attract youngsters away from the television and computer screen and to fields, woods and parks. Members of the network include the National Trust, RSPB, Play England and the NHS sustainable development unit. Organisers say it is the UK's biggest ever campaign to reconnect children with nature and outdoor play, and claim it could help improve fitness, mental alertness (机敏) and general well-being.
A documentary film, Project Wild Thing, which forecast the launch at more than 50 cinemas across the UK also looked at the increasingly fragile link between children and nature.
Andy Simpson, chairman of the Wild Network, said, “The tragic truth is that kids have lost touch with nature and the outdoors in just one generation. Time spent outdoors is down, roaming (漫步) ranges have fallen largely, activity levels are declining and the ability to identify common species has been lost.”
Suggestions of how to get more time in nature include collecting conkers (七叶树果), camping or snail racing, and observing autumn colours on trees.
The network also aims to make suggestions to politicians on how government can do more to get children muddy and bright-eyed.
This is not the first time the message of “less screen, more play” has been brought up. Children in the 1980s were requested to do the same by the BBC TV series Why Don't You, which somewhat confusingly called on its viewers to “switch off your TV set and go to do something less boring instead”.
28.What does the underlined word “surrender” in Paragraph 1 probably mean
A.Give up. B.Get around. C.Take up. D.Run away.
29.For what purpose is the Wild Network organised
A.To make children read more books.
B.To help children tell the natural world.
C.To encourage children to take part in outdoor activities.
D.To get children out of too much homework from school.
30.“Less screen, more play” was first put forward by ________.
A.Wild Network B.the BBC
C.the National Trust D.Play England
31.What can we infer from the passage
A.The government will play an important role.
B.Children have already been close to nature.
C.Politicians have controlled the campaign.
D.TV viewers will turn away from television
D
The Internet of Things (IoT) aims to get everything and everyone talking. Attaching sensors (传感器) to “things”, such as cows, cars and refrigerators, and then giving them unique IP addresses allow them to talk to the working company Cisco says that 50 billion Internet-connected devices and objects will be sending data by 2020.
But getting back to those cows, cars and refrigerators, what types of data might they actually send Cows might send their locations or physical conditions. Cars might communicate low oil levels and automatically schedule their own maintenance (维修). And refrigerators might send owners text messages reminding them it's time to buy milk and eggs.
The IoT will allow people to track things and processes like never before. Airplane manufacturers will be able to continuously track the condition of airplane parts, allowing them to do preventive (预防性的) maintenance and avoid costly downtime. Consumers could place smart devices in their homes to monitor energy usage and observe energy price changes in real time. That would allow people to change their habits and use electrical appliances during lower—priced hours.
Some critics fear that the IoT could end up being a fad (流行) that people lose interest in over time. Other critics are doubtful that companies making Internet-connected appliances will provide longterm software updates. If that happens, a refrigerator or washing machine that should last 10 years or more could last two or three due to software that's outdated.
Early this year, owners of the Tesla Model S electric car received a recall notice reminding them of a charger plug needed to be fixed. Amazingly, owners of the Model S sat back while the company performed an “over the air” wireless update. Customers confirmed the update by tapping on the car's touch screen to see that the Model S was running the latest software version. No trip to the dealer was required!
Perhaps Tesla's remote fix is a sign of things to come. Someday soon, people's lives might become a lot more efficient and convenient thanks to the IoT.
32.What can we learn from Paragraphs 2 & 3?
A.How the IoT works. B.Why the IoT is so popular.
C.Who will benefit from the IoT. D.What problems the IoT is facing.
33.The example of the Tesla Model S electric car is used to show .
A.the complexity of the IoT B.the convenience of the IoT
C.the value of the Tesla electric car D.the popularity of the Tesla electric car
34.What's the author's attitude towards the future of the IoT?
A.Hopeful. B.Worried.
C.Doubtful. D.Disappointed.
35.What would be the best title for the text?
A.Fad is disappearing! B.It's time to change!
C.Internet is coming! D.It's all connected!

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
My mom only had one eye. I hated her. She was such an embarrassment.
She ran a small shop at a flea market and collected old clothes and some other things to sell for the money we needed. Once during elementary school, it was field day, and my mom came. I was so embarrassed and wondered how could she do this to me I threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school, my schoolmates asked me, “Your mom only has one eye ” and laughed at me.
I was so angry with my mom and wished that she would just disappear from this world. So I said to my mom, “Why don’t you have the other eye You’re only gonna make me a joke!” My mom trembled with shock, and said in an apologetic tone, “I’m so sorry that I only have one eye, and I was an embarrassment for you. But I was so proud of my son to see a whole new world for me with that eye. I will leave right now. Sorry!” My mom turned around and staggered away.
For the words I had said to her earlier, there was something biting at me in the corner of my heart. Even so, I hated my one-eyed mom and our desperate poverty. Maybe because my mom hadn’t punished me, I didn’t think I had hurt her feelings very badly.
I told myself that I would become successful in the near future, so I studied very hard. Later I got accepted by the Seoul University. I left my mother and came to Seoul to study. I never went back to visit my mom.
Then I got married there. I bought a house of my own. Then I had kids, too. Now I am living happily as a successful man. I enjoy the life in Seoul because it’s a place that doesn’t remind me of my mom and my past. This kind of happiness was getting bigger and bigger, until one day someone knocked at my door.
Paragraph 1:
It was my mom! And still with her one eye!_______________________________________________

【参考范文】
It was my mom!And still with her one eye! Reminded instantly of my dark past and embarrassment , I felt as if the whole sky were falling apart on me. Being mad with anger, I shouted at her,”Who are you How dare you come to my house!” My mom narrowed her eye and opened her mouth but nothing came out there. Dead silence! Tears streaming down the gloomy winkled face, she threw a letter into my hand, turned around and ran away, head deep down. Heart stung by her withered back, I just glanced at the letter. My mom gave that eye to me! My world fell apart.
Holding the letter, I cried for the person who only lived for me. How she wanted her own son to see the world clearly! But how deeply I had hurt her! Heart beat with deep regret, I called out loudly,”Mom!” I ran after my mom, grabbed her and knelt down. “Mom, would you forgive me and accept me again ” Tears dried and a smile stole into her cheeks. It’s never too old-fashioned to say Mom’s love is the greatest in the world.
