阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
We've rounded up some top Australian travel bloggers who have given you their tips on the best places to visit in Australia.
Sydney
Sydney is filled with beautiful beaches, fun activities and good food. One of the best ways to have a view of the beauty of Sydney is by taking a relaxing walk rather than taking other means of transportation, such as buses and boats. An amazing beach walk is from Bondi Beach to Coogee Beach. It offers extremely pleasant views of the area's famous rocky, thin and sandy beaches.
Sunshine Coast
Sunshine Coast has become one of the most beautiful strips of coastland in Australia, with long white beaches lined with health-conscious cafes and trendy clothes shops. When you aren't absorbing the sunshine on one of the many beaches, you can head out to the hinterland for a day of mountain hiking or discover the swimming holes and waterfalls.
Byron Bay
Byron Bay is one of Australia's top tourist destinations. From countless waterfalls and swimming holes to mountains and bush walks, this small region hides so much beauty. I would suggest starting with a hike to the bottom of Minyon Falls for a swim, a hike to the top of Mt Warning for a sunrise, and then a hike to the Natural Arch.
Blue Mountains
If you' re looking for a dose of nature, the spot is for you. Make sure you have time to visit Wentworth Falls. Blue Mountains will offer walks with appealing views of the waterfall. These famous rock formations are the highlight of this picturesque postcard area. If you head to Echo Point, don't miss the Science Railway—the steepest passenger railway in the world.
21. How can you best view Sydney according to the text
A. By railway. B. By bus. C. On foot. D. By boat.
22. How is Sunshine Coast different from Byron Bay and Blue Mountains
A. It is suitable for hiking. B. It is a good place to see waterfalls.
C. It has swimming holes and sandy beaches. D. It has beaches full of coffee and clothes shops.
23. Where can the introduction to the scenic spots be found
A. In a novel. B. On the website. C. In a book review. D. On the sports poster.
B
In the sport of track and field, athletes compete not only with one another but against themselves, and with each race they try to achieve a new personal best.
For one Nebraska teen running in what would likely be his final cross-country outing before graduating from high school, Brandon Schutt's personal best turned out not to be about marking the fastest time but displaying the biggest heart. A mile into the 3.1-mile race, however, Schutt realized he wasn't going to be able to keep up the necessary drive. Rather than risk injury, he slowed to a comfortable pace that would allow him to simply enjoy the moment and the day.
Meanwhile, as a student in Omaha Burke High School, Blake Cerveny was running a very different kind of race. Aiming to beat his own personal record, after a fast start, he continued to push himself hard. With less than 400 meters to go, Cerveny's legs cramped(抽筋)up and failed him. Determined to finish, Cerveny rose from the ground and continued on, only to fall again after another 150 meters…and again, he got up and started running. This time he'd made it only 25 meters more before going down. But he wasn't done yet. Less than 100 meters from the finish line, he lay curled on the ground. His legs had simply given out.
Before Cerveny's dad could reach his son, another runner—Brandon Schutt—was at his side to offer a helping hand. His first attempt to get Cerveny up failed, but like Cerveny, he refused to quit, too. With a second pull, Cerveny was on his feet.
At a measured jog, with Cerveny holding Schutt for support and Schutt helping Cerveny maintain balance, the two completed the final 75 meters of the course together. Schutt even made sure the injured runner crossed the finish line first, securing his opponent a faster time. Although Cerveny was automatically disqualified for having received help, Schutt's time for the race would stand.
24. What can we learn about Schutt at the beginning of the running
A. He was confident to win the first place.
B. He was nervous about the coming graduation.
C. He was clear about his own strengths and weaknesses.
D. He was dissatisfied with the annoying surrounding things.
25. Why did Cerveny take part in the competition
A. To break his own running record. B. To show his difference from others.
C. To be admitted into the national team. D. To turn his father's dream into reality.
26. What happened to Cerveny during the running
A. He helped Schutt finish the race. B. He had the first fall at 150 meters.
C. He finally finished the race faster than Schutt. D. He injured his own arms on account of the falls.
27. What can be the best title for the text
A. Sportsmanship Is What We Should Respect
B. A Hero Runner Carries A Competitor To The Safe Place
C. Runners Met Again After Crossing The Finish Line Together
D. A Teen Runner Helped A Competitor Finish The Race After He Fell Down

Restricting meals to early in the day did not affect weight among overweight adults with prediabetes or diabetes(糖尿病), according to research presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions 2020.
"We have wondered for a long time if when one eats during the day affects the way the body uses and stores energy,” said study author Nisa M. Maruthur, associate professor of medicine in Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. “Most previous studies have not controlled the number of calories, so it wasn't clear if people who ate earlier just ate fewer calories. In this study, the only thing we changed was the time of day of eating.”
Maruthur and the colleagues followed 41 overweight adults in a 12-week study. Most participants(90%)were African American women with prediabetes or diabetes, and average age of 59 years. Twenty-one of the adults followed a time-restricted eating pattern, limiting eating to specific hours of the day and ate 80% of their calories before 1 pm. The remaining 20 participants ate at usual times during a 12-hour window, consuming half of their daily calories after 5 pm for the entire 12 weeks. All participants consumed the same pre-prepared, healthy meals provided for the study. Weight and blood pressure were measured at the beginning of the study, then at 4 weeks, 8 weeks and 12 weeks.
The analysis found that people in both groups lost weight and had decreased blood pressure regardless of when they ate. "We thought that the time-restricted group would lose more weight,” Maruthur said. "Yet that didn't happen. We did not see any differences in weight loss for those who ate most of their calories earlier versus later in the day. We did not see any effects on blood pressure either.”
The researchers are now collecting more detailed information on blood pressure recorded over 24 hours, and they will be compiling(汇集)this information with the results of a study on the effects of time-restricted feeding on blood sugar, insulin and other hormones and making analyses on the findings. "Together, these findings will help us to more fully understand the effects of time-restricted eating on cardiometabolic(心血管代谢)health,” Maruthur said.
28. What made the study different from earlier ones
A. Participants' age. B. Participants' daily eating time.
C. The number of participants. D. The research members.
29. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The research procedure. B. The research result.
C. The research purpose. D. The research institution.
30. What can we learn from the study
A. Blood pressure is connected with eating time. B. Absorbing less calories earlier makes for weight loss.
C. Eating time determines the effect of losing weight. D. Taking in calories earlier doesn't impact weight loss.
31. What may the researchers do next according to the last paragraph
A. Stop research. B. Announce findings. C. Analyze data. D. Write essays.
D
Fossils discovered in Liaoning province have challenged the theory that the Archaeopteryx(始祖鸟)is the earliest known bird.
Research of the fossils led by Pascal Godefroit and his team from the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences revealed that the dinosaur-bird Aurornis xui, like the Archaeopteryx, existed nearly 150 million years ago. Godefroit told British-based Daily Mail, "The evolutionary development shows that dinosaur-birds were already diversified in northern China during the Middle-Late Jurassic."
The study, published in the journal Nature, showed that Aurornis xui was 50 cm in length and had tiny teeth used for hunting and defense, similar to other dinosaurs. Godefroit said the results support a "single origin of powered flight", which suggests that all dinosaurs that became birds took flight around the same time, and eventually lost hunting and defensive features, like teeth, during adaptation.
Hu Dongyu, a professor at Shenyang Normal University, pointed out that fossils of some dinosaurs show that the legs initially had long feathers, which suggests they assisted wings in flight. "But the long feathers on the legs degenerated as the wings became strong enough. This is not the first time that fossil evidence has showed the evolution path from dinosaurs to birds," said Hu. "The initial question was whether these dinosaur-birds existed before the Archaeopteryx, but as we dig deeper into them, the age became irrelevant. And now the bone of contention is whether all these dinosaur-birds are dinosaurs or birds."
One fossil, found in Liaoning in 2009 and studied by scientists led by Xu Xing from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, showed that the earliest dinosaur-bird was Anchiornis huxleyi, a flying dinosaur that lived 160 million years ago. Another fossil studied by Xu and his colleagues, also believed to be a dinosaur-bird, was named Xiaotingia zhengi. “Aurornis xui, Anchiornis huxleyi and Xiaotingia zhengi are similar to dinosaur-bird fossils." Hu added. “The earlier research suggested that all dinosaur-birds were dinosaurs, not birds. However, recent research suggests the opposite. So there is a long way to go to draw a conclusion.”
32. What is the topic of the text
A. The origin of birds. B. The adaptability of birds.
C. The time when dinosaurs appeared. D. The reason why dinosaurs died out.
33. In what way was Aurornis xui similar to other dinosaurs
A. The speed of its flight. B. The force of its defense.
C. The length of its feathers. D. The feature of its teeth.
34. What does the underlined part "the bone of contention" in paragraph 4 mean
A. The bones of birds. B. The focus of debate.
C. The similarity of theories. D. The conclusion of research.
35. What does Hu think of dinosaur-birds
A. They were dinosaurs. B. They need further study.
C. They could fly like birds. D. They existed before the Archaeopteryx.

In a highly-connected world where your phone is always with you, information is being collected and shared every second. "So what " you say. "I have nothing to hide.” 36
According to some experts, people may not understand the scope of the problem. The problem is that while companies and data brokers are hovering up all the information they can, there are no laws governing what they can do with that information. 37 Someone knowing that you ordered three extra-large pizzas for dinner last Friday night may seem harmless enough, but there's a deeper principle at play. 38 As a cyber expert, Bruce Schneier says, “Privacy is a basic human right, and a requirement for maintaining the human condition with dignity and respect.”
39 We click "I Agree” without reading the user agreements. We say we will do one of those privacy checkups one day, but we never quite get around to it. And that means your personal information could be used against you in the future in ways you can't imagine today.
So what can you do to protect yourself 40 If you're worried about your personal information getting lifted, don't hand over your name, address, or phone number easily. Besides, choose a paper receipt or no receipt rather than getting one via text or e-mail. To stop your phone acting as a tracker, also turn off Location Services for all apps except maps and others that expressly need to know where you are. You can do this in settings, under Privacy and Location.
A. Don't be so sure.
B. Yet we do little to block the spies.
C. Care about who owns and controls the data.
D. We don't want to prevent all the Internet spying.
E. Privacy is not just about freedom from embarrassment.
F. You can minimize some unwanted spying by taking these measures.
G. That includes things you thought were private, such as your daily habits and beliefs.

The Trouble With Chores(家庭杂务)
The twins, Jenna and Jeff, were good at most things. Their dad was good at most things, too. But there was one thing the twins and Dad were not good at—that was chores. It wasn't that Dad and the twins didn't want to do their chores. It was just that they always seemed to have reasons not to do them. And they had such good excuses.
“You're right, my dear,” said Mum. "The grass does need cutting. But a spider has spun a wonderful web on the lawn mower and I haven't the heart to put all her hard work to waste.”
“Mum,” said Jenna, "I know it's my week to put up my cards. It's just that I'm waiting for them to dry. They'll be easier to scoop up that way.”
“Mum,” said Jeff, "may I skip setting the table tonight There's a TV show on the Ice Age, and I have to do a report on the Beast of Baluchistan.”
There were also the endless quarrels about who did what and who got the easy job. Mum sighed. If only Dad and the twins were as good at doing their chores as they were at arguing about them, life would be easier. Talking of chores, Mum thought instead of pushing them for chores, it would be a lot easier to do them herself. And that was what she did. She put away all cards and set and cleared the table. She chased the dust bunnies from under the furniture and cleaned up the twins' messy room.
The twins did pick up and put away things occasionally. Dad did cut the grass once in a while. Not surprisingly, things began to slide. Everybody got a little unhappy, especially Mum, who spent much time doing chores. Something had to be done. But what

M: Hello. International Friends Club. Can I help you
W: Oh, hello. I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I'd phone to find out a bit more.
M: Yes, certainly. Well, we are a sort of social club for people from different countries. It's quite a new club we have about 50 members at the moment, but we are growing all the time.
W: That sounds interesting. I'm British actually, and I came to Washington about three months ago. I'm looking for ways to meet people. Er, what kinds of events do you organize
M: Well, we have social get-togethers, and sports events, and we also have language evenings.
W: Could you tell me something about the language evenings
M: Yes. Every day except Thursday we have a language evening. People can come and practice their languages—you know, over a drink or something. We have different languages on different evenings. Monday—Spanish; Tuesday—Italian; Wednesday-German; and Friday-French. On Thursday we usually have a meal in a restaurant for anyone who wants to come.
W: Well, that sounds great. I really need to practice my French.
M: OK. Well, if you can just give me your name and address, I'll send you the form and some more information. If you join now you can have the first month free.

听下面一段独白,回答第17至第20小题。现在,你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
(Text 10)
M: Here is a piece of news about paper. Scientists have come up with a new type of paper that can be printed on and then used again up to 20 times. Users will be able to either remove the writing from the paper themselves, or leave it to disappear over a period of time, after which the paper will be completely blank and ready to be printed on again. There is no big change in quality between the first and the twentieth printout. Under normal circumstances it seems that the writing will remain perfectly clear for at least three days, long enough for most practical purposes. The new process does not require ink. Instead, the paper is printed on using a mixture of chemicals and light. If users want the print to disappear more quickly, they can apply heat to the paper. This can take as little as ten minutes. The hope is that in the future this paper will be widely used, providing an environmentally friendly alternative to the ordinary paper.

参考范文:
Mum decided to host a family meeting. "My dear," she said, "there's a lot more to life than chores. I've been so concerned with the house that I haven't been to the gym for weeks." "Go to the gym to work out," Dad and the twins applauded. The whole family enjoyed themselves and not worrying about chores worked pretty well at first. But bit by bit, messy build-up began to take up the house.
Living in all that messy build-up wasn't much fun. Dad decided to host a family meeting, too. No sooner had the meeting begun than everybody decided to do something about the awful mess. They picked up all the wet towels. They got the dishes out of the sink and banished the dust bunnies. Then they sat down, exhausted but pleased. At last, they realized there were a lot of meaningful things in life, including chores.
