Steven: Me I’d like to be a transportation engineer. I would invent things that help improve the environment. Maybe I could invent a solar -powered plane.
Kate: That’s a cool idea! I think I would enjoy being a cook. I love cooking, and I like creating new dishes myself.
Danny: Great! I’ll go to your restaurant! As for me, I’m going to choose the most fun and exciting job in the world. I’m going to be an astronaut!
Brian: Astronauts need to know a lot about science, Danny. Science isn’t your best subject in school. I think you should be a basketball player.
Danny: Hmm...I think I’m going to be an astronaut, but maybe I can play basketball in the spaceship!

辨析:manage to do 与try to do
manage to do 强调“结果”,意为“设法做到了某事”,意义相当于succeed in doing sth.。
try to do 强调“过程”,意为“尽努力去做某事”,结果不一定是“做到了”某事。

doubt /da t/ v.怀疑
doubt 作动词的用法:
(1) doubt 后常接名词、代词或宾语从句。
e.g. I never doubt you; you are an honest boy.
我从不怀疑你,你是诚实的男孩。
(2) doubt 后接宾语从句时,如果主句是肯定句,用if、whether 连接;如果主句是否定句或疑问句,用that 连接。
e.g. I doubt if/whether he is able to get the idea.
我怀疑他是否能明白这个意思。
I never doubt that you will be successful.
我从不怀疑你会成功。
(3) doubt 在肯定句中也可接that 引导的宾语从句。
e.g. I doubt that Danny will be a good boss.

拓展:doubt 还可作名词,意为“怀疑”。

辨析:invent, create与discover
invent 发明,创造。指创造出原来自然界不存在的东西,其对象往往是物质性的,尤指科技上的发明创造,如电灯、汽车、电视等。
create 创造,创作。指产出新的东西,其对象往往是精神上的,如艺术、文学作品中的人物及新的科学领域等;也可指创造出新的具体事物。
discover 发现。指发现某种自然界本来已经存在,但以前未被人类发现或认识的事物,如发现石油、煤等或科学真理等。
