参考答案:
“Oh no, darling, that’s okay, her father said and kissed her again on the cheek. Jenny’s big
bright eyes flashed in the dark, wondering why her father liked her necklace. Several days later,
when Jenny’s father came in to read her a story, Jenny was sitting on her bed and her lip was
trembling. “Here, daddy,” she said, holding out her hand. She opened it and her beloved pearl
necklace was inside. She let it put into her father’s hand. With one hand her father held the plastic
pearl necklace and with the other he pulled out of his pocket a blue box.
Inside the box was a real, beautiful pearl necklace. Jenny almost jumped out of bed when she
saw the shiny necklace. Her father had learned from his wife how Jenny got the necklace and
loved it. So he decided to stop smoking and use the money he saved to buy a real necklace for his
daughter. He had had it all along. He was waiting for Jenny to give up the cheap necklace so he
could give her a real one, which was worth at least $150.

M: Hello. I’m Stephen Mills. I will travel with you on the Tiger Tour to India, but I’m not your
tour guide. I work as an artist and I’m going to take some photographs of tigers so that I can use
them when I paint some pictures later. An expert guide will join the group when we arrive in India,
but I’m leading the group until then.
We leave London on the 6th of November, arriving in India the following day. It’s a good time of
the year to visit the wildlife park where the tigers live. We’ll spend ten days in the wildlife park.
There are about 20 types of animals and 300 types of birds to see as well as tigers. To be sure of
seeing tigers, we’ll stay in two different parts of the wildlife park. We’ll spend three days in the
north, where we’ll travel around in an open truck, and the rest of the time in the south, where we’ll
travel around on elephants. That should be fun!
On the way back to London, we have dinner and one night’s bed and breakfast in the Indian
capital, New Delhi. There you can either go sightseeing or go shopping, whichever you prefer. But
please note that lunch is not provided on our last day, as the plane leaves at two in the afternoon.安徽省卓越县中联盟 2021 级高一联考

It’s currently December and Christmas is almost here. And what better way to spend time with
your loved ones than sitting down to watch some classic Christmas movies Listed below are four films
that will make you laugh, cry or both this festive season.
The Grinch (2000)
This is a Christmas must-watch and one of Jim Carrey’s best performances. It was also originally a
children’s book written by Dr Seuss, which I would recommend reading! It’s the story of a green
monster who wants to ruin Christmas, but who in the end discovers the power of love and generosity. I
promise it’s a great film with plenty of laughs along the way.
高一英语试题第 2 页(共 8页)
Love Actually (2003)
While this is not a personal favourite of mine, people in the UK absolutely love this film. It has a
number of stars, featuring actors and actresses such as Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson and Alan
Rickman. It might be a little difficult to follow as there are lots of different sub-plots, so I recommend
watching a dubbed version (配音版) in your native language.
Home Alone (1990)
This film is one of my favourite films of all time and I would watch it all year round if I could. It
tells the story of a boy, Kevin, who is left alone in his house when his large family forget to take him on
vacation with them. While the family are away, burglars (小偷) try to rob the house and Kevin must
protect his home by setting traps. The trips, falls and traps will have you laughing out loud as you
watch a 10-year old boy outsmart two grown men.
Miracle on 34th Street (1994)
You can’t have Christmas in an English-speaking country without watching this film. It’s not
funny like Home Alone or The Grinch, but it is incredibly touching. It’s about a man who claims to be
Santa, but nobody believes him except a lawyer and a little girl.
21. In which film can you see Jim Carrey’s wonderful performance
A. The Grinch. B. Love Actually. C. Home Alone. D. Miracle on 34th Street.
22. What can we know about Love Actually
A. It’s one of the author’s favorite films.
B. We’d better watch a dubbed version.
C. It’s a film about the power of love and generosity.
D. Some handkerchief papers are necessary when we watch it.
23. What do the film The Grinch and Home Alone have in common
A. They are very touching.
B. They are only fit for children.
C. They are funny and make people laugh a lot.
D. They are popular and tell a story about kids.
B
One afternoon, when I walked out the supermarket, I found an old man who struggled with two
bags of food. It was very cold. I guessed he must have a long walk ahead of him. I stopped the car near
him and put the window down to ask if he needed a ride. With a little hesitation, he did accept it.
After he got settled in the car, my husband and I introduced ourselves, but he didn’t say a word.
During the drive, we tried to make him more comfortable with some small talk. His home was more
than two miles away, so it would have been a difficult walk for anyone, let alone an old man carrying
bags.
When we stopped outside his door, the first thing he asked is “How much money do you want ”
“Nothing, we just wanted to help,” we answered. The shock and relief on this man’s face was actually
sad, because we should be able to live in a world where it isn’t shocking to have someone help you out
of the goodness of their heart without expecting something in return. He was touched. Tears in his eyes,
he said “Thank you!” over and over to me after realizing we truly didn’t want anything, which made
me feel proud.
My only words to him were, “Sir, I hope this helped you out and have a good week.” These simple
acts of kindness are the types of kindnesses that anyone, anywhere can do. Just be aware of the world
happening around you. There is always someone who needs something—a door held, a bag carried...
the opportunities are endless.

After months of expectation and secrecy, the official mascot (吉祥物) of the 2022 Winter Olympic
Games—a giant panda-inspired cartoon character made its first public debut with cheers at Beijing’s
Shougang Ice Hockey Arena.
The panda is named “Bing Dwen Dwen” in Chinese. Bing means “ice” in Chinese, while Dwen
Dwen suggests “health and cleverness” —characteristics also shared by pandas.
Pandas are perhaps the most recognized animal species in China, organizers said. “Pandas
combine China’s traditional culture and its modern appearance together with winter sports elements in
a fascinating image that shows our great expectations for the Games and shows that we welcome the
world. ” said Beijing Mayor Chen Jining, who also serves as an executive president on the organizing
committee.
“I have already seen the mascot and from what I’ve seen it’s a wonderful choice, ” IOC President
Thomas Bach said before introducing the character. “The mascot really takes in the best elements and
characteristics of China and the Chinese people. It will be a great ambassador (大使) for the country
and the 24th Winter Olympics. ”
The ring of light surrounding the mascot’s face is suggestive of office and snow tracks, as well as
the flowing “ribbons” of the National Speed Skating Oval. The oval is one of two new competition
sites in downtown Beijing expected to become a landmark of the Games, according to its chief designer
Cao Xue.
The introduction of the mascots marks the key point of a journey that began in August 2018, when
Beijing organizers started a global design competition for the mascots. A total of 5,816 designs were
received from 35 countries, and were reviewed by Chinese and international experts in a
comprehensive evaluation and selection process.
The new mascot will serve as a spirited symbol of the Games that will take place in the three
zones of downtown Beijing, the suburban district of Yanging and co-host city Zhangjiakou in
surrounding Hebei province.

Have you ever made eye contact with a robot It can be a very strange experience. Scientists even
have a name for the feeling: the “uncanny valley”.
Now, researchers at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia(IIT)in Italy have found that it is more than
just a feeling. They ran an experiment that showed how a robot’s gaze(注视)can make people think
they are socially interacting with a human being. That experience can slow a person’s ability to make
decisions.
The team asked 40 people to play a video game of “chicken”. In the game, each player has to
decide whether to allow a car to drive straight toward another car or to turn to avoid a crash. The people
were playing against a human-like robot sitting across from them.
During breaks in the game, players had to look at the robot. Sometimes the robot would look back
and other times it would look away. As the interactions happened, the scientists collected data on
behavior and brain activity.
“Our results show that, actually, the human brain treats the robot gaze as a social signal, and that
signal influences the way we’re making decisions, the way we use in the game and also our reactions, ”
Wykowska said.
The findings could be useful in helping to decide where and how human-like robots might be
placed in the future.
32. What is the function of the first paragraph
A. Leading the following paragraphs. B. Showing the main idea of the text.
C. Introducing the background of the text. D. Giving a summary of the text.
33. What can we learn about the research
A. Robots were designed to make decisions to avoid a crash.
B. 40 people were asked to play against each other.
C. Players were not allowed to look at the robot during breaks.
D. Robot gaze could affect people’s decision making abilities.
34. What’s the text mainly about
A. How to make eye contact with a robot. B. The effects of robot’s gaze on human brain.
C. The future development of the robot. D. A recent research on human brains.
35. Where can you find this passage
A. Newspaper. B. A book review. C. A science magazine. D. A novel.
