2022届中考英语一轮复习阅读与完形训练三
A
The millions of species on our planet make up Earth’s biodiversity (生物多样性), which keeps ecosystems (生态系统) in balance. But as humans put increasing pressure on the planet, we risk losing biodiversity. uPlant and animal species are now being lost at the fastest rate in 10 million years, CGTN reported.
From Oct 11 to 15, Kunming, Yunnan, hosted the first part of the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (《生物多样性公约》第十五次缔约方大会). COP 15 is the first global conference convened (召集) by the UN on the topic of ecological civilization (生态文明).
At COP 15, more than 100 countries got together, developing a new post-2020 global biodiversity framework (框架) and setting new protection goals through 2030. The Kunming Declaration (昆明宣言) is the main achievement of this conference. It calls for countries to protect and save 30 percent of land and sea areas by 2030.
In 2010, the Aichi biodiversity targets (目标) were made through COP 10 to slow biodiversity loss and protect habitats (栖息地) by 2020. But the world has failed to meet any of those targets, according to a UN report.
To make sure the targets of COP 15 can be met, China has taken the lead, investing (投资) 1.5 billion yuan to create the Kunming Biodiversity Fund (昆明生态多样性基金). The fund will be used to support developing countries in biodiversity protection.
China is also moving faster to build a system of protected areas and national parks. With a protected land area of 230,000 square kilometers, China’s first group of national parks is home to nearly 30 percent of key terrestrial (陆地的) wildlife species in the country, Xinhua reported.

Su Shi isn’t a strange name to us, as we learn his ci in textbooks. This year marks the 920th anniversary of his death.
Su is one of the most popular ancient writers. He was good at almost all kinds of writings and art, including poems, ci and prose (散文) as well as calligraphy and painting. But Su was not only respected for his talent, but also for his optimistic (乐观的) attitude toward life.
When he was young, he passed the imperial examinations (科举考试) and earned the degree of Jinshi (进士). After that, he became an official.
Sadly, Su was demoted (贬谪) to serve in remote (偏远的) areas because of false accusations (诬陷). But he was not too discouraged.
First, he went to Huangzhou, in today’s Hubei. There, he tried to enjoy life in the countryside. He farmed a piece of land which he called “Dongpo (东坡)”. This is why people call him “Dongpo”. It’s said that he also invented Dongpo Pork, a famous Chinese dish, during this period. Many of his best poems were written there, too, including Tune: Calming the Waves (《定风波》). Its line “Impervious to wind, rain or shine, I’ll have my will (归去!也无风雨也无晴)” showed his open-minded attitude.
Su was also demoted to Danzhou, in today’s Hainan. At the beginning, he couldn’t get used to the hot, wet weather. He also couldn’t understand the dialect (方言). Instead of getting sad, he set up schools and got along very well with the locals. Many people traveled from afar to visit him.
Su was “an incorrigible (无可救药的) optimist, a friend of the people, a prose master …” writer Lin Yutang said in his book about Su.

For nature lovers, there will soon be new places to visit. China has announced (宣布) the list of its first five national parks.
National parks are large areas of public land. They are designed for the protection of ecosystems. They give a safe home to local plants and animals. They help keep the air and water clean.
The five parks’ protected land area is 230,000 square kilometers, covering nearly 30 percent of the key wildlife species (物种) in China.vEach park has distinct features (鲜明的特征).
For example, Three-River-Source National Park, located (位于) on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, is the largest national park in China. Covering 190,700 square km, it is about 14 times the area of Yellowstone National Park in the United States. It is home to the sources of the Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang rivers. People call it “China’s water tower”.
Giant Panda National Park, on the other hand, connects panda habitats (栖息地) in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu. There are more than 1,600 wild giant pandas inside the park, accounting for more than 70 percent of the pandas in China.
China hopes the national parks will benefit the public. Nature observation (观察) activities will be held to help travelers learn about animals and plants. Local people living in the parks can also run eco-friendly businesses. In Three-River-Source National Park, more than 17 thousand local herdsmen (牧民) have found jobs, such as park rangers (护林员) since 2016. Their yearly household incomes have increased by an average of 21,600 yuan.
“A win-win situation has been realized between the ecological (生态的) protection of these areas and development,” said Zhao Yingmin, vice-minister (副部长) of China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

At 00:23 on Oct 16, the Shenzhou XIII spacecraft rose into the sky. Three Chinese astronauts – Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu – set off for the Tiangong space station.
During their six-month stay, they will set up robotic arms and do medical experiments, among other tasks. Wang Yaping will become the first Chinese woman to take a spacewalk.
It’s not an easy job to do all these things. Chinese astronauts get difficult training before going to space. As People’s Daily reported, all the Chinese astronauts are excellent pilots with hundreds or even thousands of hours of flight time. They also receive hundreds of classes to prepare for space travel.
One of the toughest (艰苦的) parts is the high-G training. It simulates (模拟) the environment when the spacecraft takes off. Sitting in a super-fast spinning (旋转) machine, astronauts’ face muscles (肌肉) change shape. They cry tears as they spin. Blood can’t flow to their brains properly, causing a lack of oxygen (氧气) and even blindness. Astronauts must operate (操作) the spacecraft under these conditions.
Another exhausting exercise, as Wang Yaping told People’s Daily, is the underwater training which lasts seven hours each time. It simulates a weightless (失重的) environment. She had to wear a 200-kilogram suit and do tasks in 10-meter-deep water without eating or going to toilet. After each training, Wang lost up to 2 kg of bodyweight.
“We may have to repeat (重复) such training every single day for years or decades,” said Wang. “But there is no ‘give up’ in our dictionary.”

a. They can’t stop crying.
b. They may not see things.
c. Their blood stops flowing.

D. The challenges of underwater training.
5. Which word is suitable to describe Wang Yaping
A. Lucky. B. Simple.
C. Soft. D. Hardy.

Think of yourself as the carpenter. 11 your house. Each day, you hammer a nail, place a board, or build a wall. Build wisely. It is the only life you will ever build. 12 you live it for only one day more, that day deserves (值得) your whole heart.
