Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen, a German physicist, produced and detected X-rays, which earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901.
He was born to a family of a German businessman and cloth producer. In 1865, he was unfairly forced to leave high school. Without a high school diploma, Rontgen could not attend university. Upon hearing that he could enter the Federal Polytechnic Institute in Zurich, he passed the entrance examination and began studies there. In 1869, he graduated with a PhD. Then he held positions as professor in several universities. In 1888, he obtained the physics chair at the University of Wurzburg.
In an experiment in 1895, he occasionally found a strange unknown light. It turned out that there was a piece of cardboard, mysterious light is from it. "But why does this cardboard produce light" He asked himself and was determined to test it.
For days on end, he shut himself away in his laboratory, where nothing seemed to make sense to him outside, intent on this nameless ray. After seven weeks of secret experiments, Wilhelm Rontgen found that the effect is caused by an invisible ray that can pass through paper and 2-3 cm thick wood and thin aluminium sheets. If you put your hand between the tube and the screen, you can see the bones in your hand. On December 28, 1895, he announced his new discovery, calling the unknown ray X-ray.
Rontgen was married to Anna Bertha Ludwig, who was six years older than him, for 47 years until her death in 1919. In 1866 they met in Zurich. But his father didn't approve due to her age. Their marriage began with financial difficulties as family support from Rontgen had ceased.

Doctors in hospital emergency rooms often see accidental poisonings. A frightened parent arrives with a child who swallowed a cleaning liquid. Or perhaps the harmful substance is a medicine. Or it might be a product meant to kill insects. These are common causes of accidental poisonings.
In cases like this, seek medical help as soon as possible. Save the container of whatever caused the poisoning. And look for information about anything that stops the effects of the poison in the container. Save anything expelled from the mouth of the victim. That way, doctors can examine it.
Millions of people know how to give abdominal thrusts(腹部按压)to save a person choking on something trapped in the throat. The American Red Cross says a rescuer should first hit the person on the back five times between the shoulder bones. If the airway is still blocked, the Red Cross suggests pushing hard five times on the victim's abdomen. You can do these abdominal thrusts by getting directly behind a sitting or standing person.
The Mayo Clinic's health centers suggest several steps if bleeding is severe. First, if possible, remove dirt from the wound and press it with a clean cloth or piece of clothing. In the past, people were advised to stop severe bleeding with a tourniquet(止血带). But experts now say tourniquets are dangerous because they can crush(压坏)blood passages and nerves. If a wound seems infected, let the victim rest. Physical activity can spread the Infection. Treat the wound with a mixture of salt and water until medical Help arrives.
To learn more about first aid, ask a hospital or an organization like the Red Cross or Red Crescent Society for information. Training may be offered in your area.
