Immersive Van Gogh
From the creators of the blockbuster show in Paris seen by over two million
visitors and still wowing crowds in Toronto, the west coast premiere (首场 ) of the
Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit will bring the art of Vincent to life in Los Angeles.
Immersive art is not just a technical way to represent video and audio in huge
spaces. The word immersive indicates a deep commitment of intentions which
connect images and sounds in a way that the audience is able to experience a different
way of the art.
True to its name, this exhibition transforms the iconic (偶像的 ) paintings of
Vincent van Gogh into moving, wall-filling projections. “Immersive Van Gogh”
promises half-a-million cubic feet of projections that pull from some of the
post-impressionist’s most recognizable pieces, including The Bedroom, Sunflowers
and, yes, The Starry Night.
You will experience art like never before—lose yourself in entrancing, moving
images that highlight brushstrokes, detail, and color—truly illuminating (照亮 ) the

An encounter with a woman singer at the waiting room of a medical clinic unlocks
a side of my father I'd rarely seen before Alzheimer’s (老年痴呆症).
An elderly woman sat on a waiting room chair singing the tune “My Heart Will
Go On”. Other than a slight rhythmic rocking of her body to the Titanic theme song,
she was motionless, with her arms crossed elegantly over her chest. With little effort,
she was able to send her sweet, high-pitched voice exploding into every corner of the
clinic. I had fun watching how people reacted. There was a lot of shifting in seats, but
mainly they awkwardly pretended there was nothing out of the ordinary going on.
She settled into the seat directly across from my dad. I was concerned about how
my dad would react to the possible invasion on his space. When healthy, he, a brilliant
military man, tolerated people's strange behaviors dutifully but with a healthy dose of
silent criticism. He considered it bad-mannered to bring excessive attention to oneself.
内江六中高二年级,英语学科试卷,第 3页(共 8页)
I couldn't help but think that woman was playing with fire. Her singing became gentle,
but his smile was gone, and the expression seemed to be like confusion. By the time
she got to the chorus — “Near, far, wherever you are...” — it was much louder. She
was eyes-shut, body rocking. I watched for any sign of an outburst of anger. Instead,
his face softened, and the tension eased in his brow. He no longer looked confused.
People say Alzheimer's is a thief, stealing your loved ones slowly, day by day. But
certain experiences with my dad have allowed me to see a side of him that I never
knew. In an unexpected way, that's what happened in the clinic. Alzheimer's
sometimes seemed to be peeling back the onion of my dad's true self. When her song
ended, the woman opened her eyes. My dad was still looking directly at her. "That
was beautiful," he said. And she smiled and said, “Thank you.”
24. Which of the following best describes this elderly woman
A. She sat still singing her song merrily.
B. Her high-pitched voice moved many people.
C. Most people considered it ordinary to hear such voice.
D. She shook her body rhythmically and mildly when singing.
25. What do we know about the author's father
A. He thought people should care about others.
B. He couldn't stand any invasion on his space.
C. He thought people shouldn't be too self-centered.
D. He was once completely intolerant of strange behaviors.
26. The face of his father softened and the tension eased because .
A. the woman finally stopped her emotional singing
B. the woman raised her voice and sang emotionally
C. the author's father tried to control the outburst of anger
D. the author's father was no longer confused about what happened
27. Which is the best title of the passage
A. A Song in His Heart B. The Unforgettable Past
C. A Singer in The Clinic D. The Reminder of Wartime

There are many ways to define fame. But one of them, surely, is to see your
name in lights above bustling New York streets. A Chinese writer saw just an
illumination(光源) in July when his name appeared on the big screen in Times
Square. For Liu Zhenyun, it was a spectacular and fully-deserved promotion of his
latest book, Laughter and Tears: A Novel.
Liu, one of the best-selling authors of novels in contemporary China, has penned
a number of popular works, including Someone to Talk To, Remembering 1942 , and I
Did Not Kill My Husband.
His works have been translated into more than 28 languages, and Someone to
Talk To was awarded lhe 2011 Mao Dun Literature Prize.
"Laughter and Tears: A Novel "can be worthily called another ' high peak' after
Someone to Talk To: 'Zhang Xudong, a professor of comparative literature and East
Asian studies at New York University, says. The novel is based on the folklore of a
legendary figure Hua Emiang, and describes the paintings of the narrator's uncle,
telling of the humor and life of people in Yanjin, Henan province, Liu's hometown.
In the book, everyone from Yanjin is humorous and can tell excellent jokes. Hua
Emiang, the spirit of a widow waiting eternally for her husband, as in Yanjin folklore,
will come into people's dreams. In this state she will ask them to tell her a joke. If she
thinks the joke is boring, she will instruct them to carry her to a place where she can

drink spicy soup. But they die in the effort as she crushes them following her
transformation into a mountain. However, if she likes the joke, she will give them a
persimmon (柿子). As a result, people from Yanjin tell really good jokes.
Corriere della Sera, an Italian newspaper, called Liu "the Kalka of Beijing". In
2018, Liu was awarded France's Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters.
An author at Kirkus Reviews, a book review site in the United States, writes,
"Liu has written a masterful tale that will make you laugh even as you feel hopeless".
Liu's tragedies often have a feature of comedy and his comedies are also like tragedies.
He tells many jokes and ridiculous stories in his books, and you will laugh when you
read them. However, the truth behind the jokes could be cruel and sorrowful.

Every day people board planes, get on trains and ready themselves for an
adventure. But what about the deep sea Although it covers 70 percent of the Earth's

of protecting oceans and the animal life that calls them home. British sculptor Jason
deCaires Taylor, whose artwork can be seen in multiple underwater attractions around

journey. " 39 . If you find yourself constantly comparing your body to other
bodies, remember that we're all built differently. "We all do different things for a
living, I don’t have any kids...You might have four or five kids at home. There are so
many variables," says Howell.
Figure out a way to move your body in an easy way
40 . Take advantage of those offers to feel out the atmosphere of each

My Magic Shoes
To make our life easier and the environment more beautiful, I have designed a pair of magic pared to the traditional ones, they have three new unique functions.
First of all, the shoes are made from specially produced recycled paper which stands high pressure and temperature, so they won’t tear forever. Secondly, you needn’t wash them forever, for they wash themselves. Most magically, they can be used as a kind of transportation means. When you want to get somewhere as fast as possible, they will speed up by themselves and you will have a sense of flying. There being the pair of shoes, in the future fewer and fewer people will drive cars. In this way our world will be greener and cleaner.
