Chinese volleyball superstar Zhu Ting has inspired a new English word. "Stay awesome and ZHUperb!" wrote a blogger at a US-based volleyball website. The word combines "Zhu" and "superb (卓越的)", to describe the 27-year-old player.
Zhu's excellent scoring performances put her among the Top 10 Global Outstanding Athletes for this year's Heracles Prize of the Big Ben Award. As the captain, Zhu "created the new golden age of women's volleyball in China", the award said. Zhu is considered a national hero by many in China, with good reason. Before this year's World Cup victory, she helped the national volleyball team win the 2015 FIVB World Cup, the 2015 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship, and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Although she's a superstar now, it hasn't been easy for Zhu to get to where she is. Born to a farming family in Henan province, Zhu earned a chance to attend a local sports school at age 13. She became well known to the public by helping China's U20 team win the 2013 FIVB U20 World Championship. Shortly after, Zhu joined the national team and began playing under legendary coach Lang Ping.
At first, the 1. 98-meter-tall Zhu found it difficult to move quickly and stay balanced. But Lang Ping took advantage of her height and trained her to jump high and smash balls. Her work paid off. Zhu is now an outstanding player. "Hard work and talent are equally important. I'll move forward step by step," she told People's Daily.

No trip to the beach would be complete without a group of hungry gulls (海鸥).But be careful, because one of those gulls may soon go after your food. "There's a very small number of very daring individuals that seem to harm the reputation of the whole species."
Neeltje Boogert,an animal behavior researcher at the University of Exeter, studied the food-snatching (抢,夺) habits of gulls in seaside towns in the southern U.K.and found that very few-only the bravest, would actually take the food or make that the bite.
The experiment went like this:A researcher crouched (蹲下) near a gull, then set out a plastic bag of French fries. For those brave gulls that then started to approach, the researcher either stared straight at the gull,as in "I see you, thief," or simply looked away. And it turned out, staring down at the gulls made them hesitate 21 seconds on average before approaching the fries.
Gulls aren't the only ones who behave better when being watched.A 2006 study found that people paid three times as much for their drinks at an unattended honor-system coffee bar when just an image of staring eyes was displayed nearby.
As for the gulls,Boogert points out that we need to learn to live with them-because the particular species she studied is on the U.K. 's Red List of Birds of Conservation(保护)Concern.
"The thing is:people don't want to have a seaside holiday without gulls there. So it's just trying to find ways to live together with one of the only wildlife species we still have around in these coastal areas."
"So don't turn your back on the gulls," she says. "Both seemingly for conserving the species and,of course,actually-for conserving your lunch."
32 What does the author want to say about gulls in Paragraph1?
A. People go to the beach mainly for the gulls.

Dear fellow students,
There is a serious phenomenon in our school that many students crowd in the school store to buy snacks after each class and some students even eat snacks in class.
Eating snacks is a bad habit as well as a waste of money. Additionally, with most snacks high in fat and sugar, eating snacks improperly may lead to fatness and illness. What's worse, some students throw the wrappers everywhere, which pollutes our campus.
It's high time that we acted as responsible young adults, developing good eating habits with regular three meals a day and, above all, a balanced diet.
Let's say no to snacks.
