When it snows, it’s not hot.
when /wen/ conj. 当……时；adv. 什么时候
when 作连词引导时间状语从句，说明主句动作所发生的时间。
e.g. We turned off all the lights when we left.
我们离开的时候关掉了所有的灯。

由when 引导的时间状语从句主句用一般将来时，从句通常用一般现在时表将来。
e.g. When he comes this afternoon, I will tell him about it.

What’s the weather like today 今天的天气怎么样？
What’s the weather like today 是人们询问天气时最常用的形式之一，意思是“今天天气怎么样？”询问该句也可说成： How’s the weather today 今天天气怎么样？
回答该问句通常是： It’s fine (sunny, cloudy, rainy, snowy, windy). 天气很好（晴朗，阴，有雨，有雪，有风）。
Language points
问将来的时间，如“明天天气怎么样？”可以说：
—What’s the weather going to be like tomorrow
/ What will the weather be like tomorrow
—It’s going to be snowy.
—What was the weather like yesterday
— It was cloudy.
问过去的时间，如“昨天天气怎么样？”

scared 是动词scare的形容词形式，意为“害怕的”，be scared of…意为“害怕……”。
I’m scared of thunder! 我害怕打雷！
e.g. Don’t be scared of him. 不要怕他。
The girl is scared of dogs. 那个女孩怕狗。
She’s scared to fly in a plane. 她害怕乘飞机。
注：be scared of…比be afraid of意思更强烈。

rise vs. raise
rise 作不及物动词，意为“上升；上涨”，后面不能直接接宾语。
e.g.
The river rose by 10 centimeter after the heavy rain.
一场大雨之后，那条河流（水位）上涨了10厘米。

注意：rise—rose—risen。
e.g.
The girl raised her finger to her lips as a sign for silence.
那个女孩举起她的手指放在唇边示意保持安静。
The poor man raised three children by himself.
那个穷人独自抚养了三个孩子。
raise 作及物动词，意为“举起；抬起；增加；提高；饲养”等。

1. snowy，cloudy是形容词，表示“雪的，多雪的”“多云的”。它是由名词snow/cloud + 后缀–y 构成。
y加在名词之后，表示“具有……特征的”、“多……的”。
类似的派生词还有：
rain → rainy sun → sunny wind → windy
ice → icy fog → foggy dirt →dirty
dust →dusty fun →funny
构词法
2. everyone, afternoon, maybe, thunderstorm, sunrise, sunset是复合词。
复合词[compound (word)]顾名思义是由一些词汇复合形成的，而且也可以复合出各种词类。复合后的词是属于哪种词类，这决定于复合词的后半部词性。
类似的复合词还有：
basketball, bookshop, goodbye, midnight, downstairs, download, myself, without等等。
